General Intelligent Discussion & One Thread About That Buttknuckle

Cincinnati at Houston - Very tough game for me to get a handle on, because I don't think either of these teams is all that good. I believe that given Houston's current QB situation, that the Bengals actually have a slight advantage in this game. Neither team winning this game would surprise me. Regardless of which team wins, they are not winning in the next round, regardless of who their opponent is. Bengals by 3.

Detroit at New Orleans - This will probably be the most entertaining game of the weekend, and I don't think the Saints could have drawn a tougher first round matchup. I see this as a very high scoring game. It will probably stay close for the first half, but I see the Saints pulling away in the second half. Saints by 16.

Atlanta at NY Giants - Simply not sold on Atlanta as a legitimate NFL playoff contender. They're a good team, but always seem to puke on their cleats as the moment gets bigger. Until they prove otherwise, they're not ready for "Prime Time". Giants by 4.

Pittsburgh at Denver - Yeah...I know. Pittsburgh has boo boos and is limping. Save me the whining. Tebow absolutely SUCKS as an NFL QB and the Steelers should win this game with a fourth string QB. The truth of the matter is that the Steelers could not have drawn an easier playoff opponent. Hell, I'd rather play the Broncos with their high school offense than several teams who didn't even make the playoffs. This game will be close, because Pittsburgh doesn't beat anyone that convincingly. Touchdown Jesus continues his losing streak. Steelers by 10.

Cincinnati at Houston - Two of the most inexperienced teams in the playoffs. Young guns all over the field that don't have a CLUE about what it is about the NFL PLAYOFFS. That won't matter in this game as it's inevitable that one of these teams will advance, but whoever it is, they'll be one and done because of that inexperience factor. That, and they just aren't that good compared to the other qualifiers. Bengals by 7.

Detroit at New Orleans - Before the season, I predicted the Lions 6th seed and went out on a limb and even though their in the playoffs, they won many "magical" come from behind victories. I never really bought into Detroit this season only because I feel they backed in due to some NFC teams crumbling (Jay Cutler;Chicago.) I believe the Lions get EXPOSED in a harsh way going into New Orleans and will be out of their element. Saints by 14.

Atlanta at NY Giants - Everyone knows by now that I will be riding Atlanta until and IF they get eliminated. I feel as if going into the Meadowlands isn't as intimidating as it once was. The Giants put themselves in a position to not only win the NFC EAST, but lose it. I think Atlanta is poised for another showdown in New Orleans, their division rival. Falcons by 6.

Pittsburgh at Denver - Pittsburgh may have to turn to a guy named Chadd Spann within the running-back corpse to give backup-turned-starter Issac Redman a breather, that's how banged up the Steelers are as an overall team. Their other running back, Jonathan Clay, is also a practice squad player brought up just 2 weeks ago. Pouncey is officially ruled out, Ryan Clark is ruled out, Mendenhall is on IR and Woodley will play sparingly on a injured hamstring. It's all doom and gloom here in Pittsburgh, anywhere you turn, it's bad press with injury to injury updates and our running backs coach in bad condition after getting burned in a fire. The only shining light on the Steelers right now, is how BAD the Broncos really are. We'll see what kind of team the Steelers are made of in this 2011 post-season, especially next week if they advance. Steelers by 13.

Marvin Lewis is a fucking moron. These challenges are ATROCIOUS. Rule number one in the NFL...NEVER challenge the spot of the ball in the first half of a game. This guy really needs a lesson on how to use challenge. Hell, watch the fucking JumboTron, you dope!

Agree. I was sitting there with disbelief that not only did he challenge a play on 2nd down, that the spot was obvious and that he still had a 3rd and 1 to convert (which they converted.) The second one was bad too, obviously possession goes to the offensive player when they both have possession of the football on the ground. He threw it right away too. People upstairs need to quit their day job for Cincy. Now, they are out of challenges and we all know how crazy 4th QRT's can be. A challenge WILL be needed.

Welcome to Gillette Stadium, Steelers! I wouldn't have it any other way. There isn't a team in the playoffs who I want to see the Patriots play more. Pittburgh has never had to get through New England to get to or win a Super Bowl. I insist upon the Patriots being forced to get by Pittsburgh (again) to make their way through the playoffs. I BEG all of the "experts" to start picking the Steelers right this second!

Jones put all the elements together early on, and I think since then, he's just raking it in. He couldn't care less about the fans or anything else except money. I've never like the guy and my disdain for him has only grown stronger, every season.

The way he handled the Landy firing early on pretty much cemented it right away for me with him. He's a scumbag.

He's got to be the most hated owner in all of football. Him, Dan Snyder and Al Davis, may he rest in peace.

The Bengals really were playing well up until Watt had that incredible interception/pick-6 at the end of the first half. Why the Bengals were running the kinds of plays on that drive that they were is beyond me... either target AJ wayyyy deep or pound the ball up the middle and let the clock run out. That play broke their backs, and it was just unnecessary. Marvin puked all over his cleats today, to use a JfBism.

Props to The Texans for continuing to ball. Lots of depth on that team. I actually quite like their chances vs Baltimore next weekend.

Superb first half by the Lions. Looks like this one will go down to the wire. Detroit will do the rest of the playoff teams a huge favor if they could eliminate a very dangerous Saints team.

First off, the Steelers didn't win anything yet. Second off, ditto, partner! TRUST ME, Steelers fans want nothing more than to wipe that bad taste out of our mouth's from all those times the Patriots came into our house and sent us home in the playoffs. We've been waiting to draw New England the last couple of years for the opportunity to watch New England and their fans feel the heatbreak we felt not once, but twice. We owe you big time and have the chance to gut New England in front of THEIR fans this time. Again, There is NOTHING more for Steelers fans to want, than to go into Gillette Stadium to send the Patriots and their fans home with their tails tucked between their legs and have the HONOR to watch us dance on your field and send you home for the THIRD time in as many games in Foxboro in recent years for the playoffs. You know how Baltimore wants to beat the Steelers so bad in the playoffs? We want to beat New England 10X more! Just like you said, earlier, John. BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR.

Honestly, the Steelers really don't concern me. They obviously beat the Patriots earlier in the season and there is zero question that they could beat them again. That said, I just don't see it happening. You may think the Steelers are looking for "revenge", but last I checked, the Patriots lost the last matchup, and they are the ones looking to avenge a loss. Ben has scored 31 points in his last three games combined, and that won't get it done. I always felt that the Steelers would have a couple of less Super Bowls (as in zero...with Ben) had they actually been forced to play the Patriots in those seasons. Now, they have their chance to beat a VERY shaky New England defense. Based on the Patriots defense, it should be a piece of cake for them!

I don't blame you for thinking that but that's simply not how the NFL is set up about the "not going through New England" thing. Besides, during those SB runs, the Steelers had to go through division rival, Baltimore, twice, a top 2 defense, consistently & handled the team that beat N.E last season, the Jets, again, a top 5 defense. Take nothing away from the Steelers.

Steelers fans NEED the monkey off their back and are wanting the matchup bad (there are STILL players from that '04 Championship Game that would like to play revenge.) If New England didn't choke last year, it would have been Pittsburgh @ New England. If the Steelers win today, whoever they would have next weekend would be either New England or Baltimore so to be on the road next week will show what kind of team they really are. Like yourself, the Patriots really don't concern me either and even though their a top offense, they are the most beatable compared to the other recent times Pittsburgh has faced them. New England and Pittsburgh are two of the top two most mentally strong teams & are the toughest teams to beat in that regard.

Steelers fans are glad Houston won because of the state of our injuries,. New England simply isn't the kind of physical team that Baltimore is and we'd rather travel to New England and have a shot to knock off the Pats and let Baltimore scrap it out against Houston, a tough and physical team themselves and hope for a Title Match in Baltimore for "Revenge #2 game." It'll be tough for Pittsburgh, especially now, but givin' the circumstance, we'd rather play New England first followed by Baltimore than Baltimore followed by New England if that makes sense. Either way, it's a marquee matchup. Should be a good one if Pittsburgh's not caught sleep walking today.

As much as I'd love to see Pittsburgh lose to the awful Broncos, I find myself in the very odd position of being a Steelers fan today. I realize Denver would be the better (and far easier) matchup for the Patriots, but there is no team I'd rather see them play (and beat) than the Steelers. Go Shitsburgh!

Me and Matt were texting, how the hell can you have Julio Jones, Tony Gonzalez, Roddy White and Michael Turner on the same offense and barely gain a first down, let alone move past the 50 yard line? Inexcusable, one of the worst play-calling games I've ever seen in the postseason. Matt brought up a good point. In this system with these offensive weapons that are arguably ignored, Smith should be on the short leash with his head coaching job. This system simply isn't working out for Atlanta. Sometimes you got to give an upset team a chance, I expected more from Atlanta. Thank God they aren't advancing, pretty pathetic performance. Remember, it was Eli and the Giants that looked like the first threat to Green Bay. Good matchup next week with N.Y Giants going back into Lambeau.
