Funeral Songs

Postby Peartree12249 » Fri Feb 03, 2012 1:28 pm

I'm very bored tonight so I decided to post a thread on what song(s) or music video(s) you'd want played at your funeral. I haven't decided, but my husband picked this tune.

I couldn't find a video on Youtube but my choice would be "Believer in Deed" by Petra.

On this journey we begin at birth
This fleeting moment that we spend on earth
No second chance to live it all again
It must be now or never to cherish each endeavor

What will they say that I have left behind
A faithful heritage for all to find
What will they see?
I want my legacy to be

He was a believer in deed
He had a heart of a different breed
He made his mark and he lived by his creed
A true believer, a believer in deed

Am I living everything I say?
Am I pointing others to the way?
Will I leave this world a better place?
Will Jesus say he knew me
Is Jesus living through me?

Did I maintain my authenticity?
A man of honor and integrity?
Remembering me, I hope that they will truly see

He was a believer in deed
He had a heart of a different breed
He made his mark and he lived by his creed
A true believer, a believer in deed

At the end of my days I know I'm gonna say
I wouldn't live my life any other way
I'll look to my posterity to carry on for me
And pray that they will see

He was a believer in deed
He had a heart of a different breed
He made his mark and he lived by his creed
A true believer, a believer in deed

Here is my pick. It's the song Immortal from Eric Woolfson's musical "Edgar Allen Poe" performed by Steve Balsamo

Lovely lyrics those are Dave, thanks for adding it here.
That one is new to me also, I'll see if I can find it elsewhere
and give it a listen.

I remember the first time I heard Steve Perry's ~ One More Time. I thought of funeral song......hauntingly beautiful.

And this one makes my eyes water every time I hear it, I always want to pick up the phone and tell my Mom I love her. Come on gals, I dare you to listen to this one without getting even just a tad choked up. :( Such a beautiful tribute!

When You Come Home - Mark Schultz

http://youtu.be/PZTU91OefoA

My first day of recess
They all laughed at me
When I fell off the swing set
And scraped up my knee

The nurse called my Momma
To say I'd be late,
And when she gave me the phone
I could hear Momma say
"I'm so sorry, son.
Oh I think you're' so brave"

And she was smilin when she said:

When you come home,
No matter how far,
Run through the door
And into my arms
It's where you are loved,
It's where you belong
And I will be here
When you come home

I waved good-bye through the window
As I boarded the plane,
My first job in Houston
Was waiting for me

I found a letter from Momma
Tucked in my coat
And as I flew down the runway
I smiled when she wrote:
I'll miss you, son,
You'll be so far away

But I'll be waiting for the day

When you come home
No matter how far,
Run through the door
And into my arms
It's where you are loved,
It's where you belong,
And I will be here
When you come home

Well, I don't think
She can hear you now,
The doctor told me
Your mother is fading,
It's best that you leave

So I whispered,
I love you
And then turned away.
But I stopped at the door
When I heard Momma say,
I love you, son,
But they're callin me away

Promise me before I go

When you come home,
No matter how far,
Run through the door
And into my arms;
It's where you are loved,
It's where you belong,
And I will be here
When you come home,
When you come home.

From the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy : So long and thanks for all the fish

I want folks to sing along....Should make a few laugh out loud and not be sad.

So long and thanks for all the fish
So sad that it should come to this
We tried to warn you all but oh dear

You may not share our intellect
Which might explain your disrespect
For all the natural wonders that
grow around you

So long, so long and thanks
for all the fish

The world's about to be destroyed
There's no point getting all annoyed
Lie back and let the planet dissolve
Around you

Despite those nets of tuna fleets
We thought that most of you were sweet
Especially tiny tots and your
pregnant women

So long, so long, so long, so long, so long
So long, so long, so long, so long, so long

So long, so long and thanks
for all the fish

If I had just one last wish
I would like a tasty fish
If we could just change one thing
We would all have learned to sing

Come one and all
Man and mammal
Side by side
In life's great gene pool

So long, so long, so long, so long, so long
So long, so long, so long, so long, so long

So long, so long and thanks
for all the fish 8) 8)

Expelliarmus. Hopefully genetic engineering and regenerative medicine has gone as far as at least get me up to 150. Eternal life is gonna happen - no doubt about it.

As long as I'm not looking like Betty White or Christopher Lee for a thousand years, that'll be fine with me. How will that, with respect to physical maturity, work (in theory) for an extended or eternal life?

I always thought that Kansas-"Dust in the Wind" sounds like a funeral song, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tH2w6Oxx0kQ&ob=av2e

but since I won't be aware of it, I don't care about a funeral. I told my husband he could cremate me and spread me out over the dolphins in Port Aransas. They would be singing, "So long, and thanks for all the ashes."

Hope I'm lucky enough to go like my grandmother ... Just blink out over my teacup at breakfast. No funeral for me either. My kids can spread the ashes in Kauai and hoist cosmos at sunset to Higher Place.
