"Every Little Thing" Previews, CD Avail 3/6

Postby Jeremey » Fri Feb 10, 2012 4:13 am

Hey everyone!

Just a note to share a link to the streaming previews of the songs from the upcoming CD, "Every Little Thing." The release date is finalized for March 6th and it goes to the duplicators on Monday, so I'm excited and relieved this thing is finally getting wrapped up and put out there.

I welcome any comments here, and I want to start by mentioning it won't be everyone's cup of tea. It's an eclectic record and it isn't a riff on a bunch of Journey sounding tunes. But I hope and believe that lots of people who like melodic music with great players are going to enjoy it. I also won't be discussing the pros and cons of my distribution or manufacturing methods here on MR either, LOL.

Thanks for checking it out!!

No one can accuse you of sounding too much like Perry here. You definitely have got your own signature sound going on. Good Job!

Thanks Don, I appreciate it! It is not Perry 2.0 and I guess maybe some people will be disappointed in that, but to be honest, as many are fond of saying, there's already a Steve Perry, and frankly there's already a lot of people that put out music that sound like his, so I thought it was important with the freedom of doing an independent release to make it true to what MY music should sound like. And I really thank the musicians on the record that listened to what I wanted and bought into the songs regardless of their expectations.

Some really compelling work there, Jeremey. "Stay" evokes "If He Should Break Your Heart" and that's praise of the highest order. My only concern is that the musicianship isn't up to par with your voice, which could undermine the songs, but I'll reserve judgment til I hear the whole thing.

It's definitely very promising, on par with the best of Hugo's work.
'Nothing was bigger for Journey than 1981’s “Escape” album. “I have to attribute that to Jonathan coming in and joining the writing team,” Steve Perry (Feb 2012).'

Thanks for checking it out Gideon, hopefully what you hear here will be compelling enough to pick up the release next month. RE the musicianship, I'm supported on most of the CD by Eric Ragno, Vic Rivera, and John Spinks, guys that can more than hold their own against me in the musical department. I play bass on most of the songs, guitar and keys on a few of the songs, but for the most part, I leave the heavy lifting to the pros.

Awesome, and thanks so much for supporting its production as well, especially in light of the unforeseen issues I had singing & the interruption in my work over the past several months. I can say unequivocally that the release would have never happened without those of you who supported me through the Kickstarter program.

It's okay Jeremy - I think what Gideon was trying to say is that the keyboards aren't nearly loud enough in the second track & that it's clearly a conspiracy by certain guitarists. LMFAO Sounds great bud, really looking forward to hearing the final product. Rock on!

Sounds like a melodic classic. The samples exceed my expectations. Wasn't Going Under supposed to be included? I don't think I missed it in this clip.

Wow, thanks Matt - I hope you like the whole thing, this streaming sample is a pretty eclectic sampling of all the tracks (except "Prelude" which is an instrumental intro to "This Is Your Life"). "Going Under" was a Baby Tripswitch song, which was a project with Stephen Chesney and myself that never got underway except for the song "Going Under," LOL. I originally wrote "Can't You See He's Gone" with Stephen before he joined Frontiers in 2008, having heard about him here on a project with fellow MR Shawn Pelata. CYSHG was really not a Journey sounding song at all, and I was writing with John Spinks and had "This Is Your Life" done as well, and the plan was basically to do what I'm doing now, release a solo CD that wasn't too influenced or sounded like Journey. After we finished CYSHG, we tried to write another tune, which was "Going Under," but to my ears, at the time, it sounded exactly like a Journey song, and actually very similar to "Never Walk Away." I thought that this was a new song Stephen had just demo'd for me, but I recently read where he wrote the music for "Going Under" in 2007, before he met me and before the release of Revelation, so in hindsight, I suppose that was a coincidence. Bottom line is John got very wrapped up in the new Outfield music in 2009, and Stephen joined Frontiers, so I thought the timing was right for Stephen and I (we also worked with Eric) to work together and release a Journey sounding project that we could both benefit from while touring with Frontiers. I guess there just wasn't any writing chemistry there though, for as much time as we spent together on the road and off, we never were able to write another song together.

So I went back to the original idea of a solo CD that didn't really sound like Journey, and finished up the CD with a few new songs I had written as well as a few of the older ones I had kicking around. I've heard that "Going Under" will be recorded by Stephen in the original form that he wrote the song back in 2007, so I guess it will be a totally different song that what we wrote and performed with Frontiers.

And in that synopsis it appears that everything has come full circle, LOL, so everyone is happy with how things turned out. "Going Under" is available for free download on my Soundcloud page.. I really enjoyed performing the song in the context of our Journey show, and people seemed to enjoy it!

Good stuff. And yep, it sounded great live at the House of Blues back in September (I think... or the time before that!). Looking forward to hearing all the music. This genre desperately needs a shot in the arm. Some of the recent albums have been good (like Toby Hitchcock), but the writing partner overlap and consequent homogenization of the style is starting to get a bit tiresome. Your album should fit the bill based on these clips!

Thank you man, funny story in relation to the boldened part of your quote, I did approach a very large melodic rock label for the sole purpose of European distribution for the CD (it was already finished) and I was told that the music was good, but was not the kind of music their label's customers were interested in - And when I was interested in making a Journey sounding record to let them know, LOL. While I do agree 100% with what the label said, in the context of your post I thought it was kind of funny.
