High Hopes’ Strings and Stories took on a new look this year as about 150 people were treated to the organization’s annual fundraiser at a lofty venue – Wedding 101 at the Factory at Franklin. With small intimate settings at tables and overstuffed chairs and sofas, guests were not only treated to tasty delights provided by Amerigo’s and Gigi’s and beverages from Del Rio Wine & Spirits and Frothy Monkey Coffee House, but the sounds of some great music.
The night kicked off with the identical twin duo of Kate and Kacey Coppola, whose angelic country harmonies and boot-stomping lyrics set the tone for the night. They were followed by a trio of singer/songwriters who singularly would have been a special treat, but combined were a show not to be missed.
Leslie Satcher, whose credits include the recent Kellie Pickler hit “Tough” and George Jones’ “Troubador” which she wrote with Monte Holmes gave new meaning to Southern Rock as she belted out a number of songs she has written. Her rendition of the song she wrote and Martina McBride recorded “When God-Fearing women get the blues” was instantly recognized by the crowd as acknowledged by their rousing applause. Southern California-born Marv Green moved to Nashville several years ago, but has learned the language of country music like he was born here. He performed songs he’s written including: “Wasted” better known as a hit by Carrie Underwood and Rodney Atkins’ “Farmer’s Daughter.”
They were joined by Journey’s Jonathan Cain, who told stories of writing songs with the band’s famous frontman Steve Perry. Cain gave his rendition of “Open Arms” and “Don’t’ Stop Believin’”
The annual fundraiser is helping to kick off High Hopes building project. High Hopes Inc. is an inclusive preschool and physical therapy organization.
