Is it just my ears, or is Jeremey getting nasally hoarse in the high register? Hope all those years of singing Journey songs didn't harm his vocal cords.

Is it just my eyes or is the current Journey singer a mess and way too thin in the new video?

Seriously!

Sounds great. Good song. At first the verses were vaguely reminding me f another song and I struggle for quite a while to pull that to the front of my brain. It finally hit me.

I've been telling you that for years! :P

J/k, j/k. Yeah, you could say Jeremey is a bit liberal with the rasp... but overall his vocals on 'Stay' are outstanding, I think. It evokes 'If He Should Break Your Heart' for some reason and there's no higher praise I can give.

Yeah, I have that problem of butting in when it's not welcome. Sorry, I like Jeremey, but it's nowhere close to IHSBYH. It does sound eerily like the GR song that Memorex posted, though.

It was a joke, dear Annie. You're welcome to post wherever and to whomever you please.

If He Should Break Your Heart is this band's finest moment, bar none. I'm not saying Stay is its equal, but it definitely conjures similar vibes for me.

Thanks for sharing Ed!

Well, what can I say, my voice is raspier...I was suffering from a polyp on my vocal cord throughout most of the year. Luckily I was recording a CD of my own songs in my own voice, so I didn't have to worry about being compared to "you know who."

I can say I've never heard that Gregg Rolie song, but it, like "Stay" and about 100 other pop hits, utilizes or is influenced by the I V vi iii IV I IV V chord progression (see also "Basket Case" by Green Day, "Where The Streets Have No Name" by U2, "Say You, Say Me," by Lionel Ritchie, "Cryin" by Aerosmith, and "Let It Be" & "In My Life" by The Beatles). I can see where the similarity can be made with the vocal coming in fairly quickly, etc. I'm glad you guys enjoy it!!

The CD comes out March 6th at CD Baby and also iTunes & Amazon, and a preview of the whole album can be heard here:

Thanks again!

Yea - off his first solo album.

Just to clarify - Jeremy's song just reminded me of this. That's not say they are all that similar.

I agree...this is a great song by Jeremey.
Question for Jeremey: did you have a hand in writing all the songs on your solo cd? And, yes, I do remember reading about your vocal illness late last year. Hope you have fully recovered from that.

I also want to clarify that I thought it was a great find by Memorex comparing the GR song with Jeremey's...not that they were the same...but definitely have the same tone. Personally, always have enjoyed Gregg's singing...as well as Jeremey covering Journey songs.

Thank you Annie! Yes, I wrote all of the songs on my CD - There are 3 tracks I had a co writer with. Can't You See He's Gone was co-written with Stephen Chesney before he joined Frontiers, "What Can I Do" was written with John Spinks of The Outfield, and "Hoping For You" was a song I wrote in high school with a friend of mine and I completely redid the arrangement for the CD version. I wrote all of the other songs myself. One of the reasons I worked so hard to make this release happen was because of my songwriting background. I knew most people knew me as the singer for Frontiers, and I have been a songwriter for most of my life, at least since an early teenager. When Journey was going to bring me on as their singer, one of the biggest criticisms I heard was that I was a "tribute singer" and could bring nothing creatively to the table. It was something I really wanted to disprove, as I had been singing Journey songs for all of five years at the time but had been writing my own music for most of my life. I hope you find something you like on the CD and I appreciate you taking a listen!

And yes, the Rolie song is a good find! It feels a little "yacht rock" to me, which was a sign of the times of course, but I personally enjoy those tunes.

Even if you got the gig, how much creative input would Cain/Schon let you wield? Augeri's writing credits were minimal. JSS was removed before he could rock the boat. I was re-listrening to Revelation the other day. Man, is that album soft. Prolly their most poppy effort since ROR. The band def. needs some outside help.

Hard to say. I know that my contributions to "Never Walk Away" were pretty organic - Neal brought the music in, I worked up a melody along with the band as they learned it, Cain built his lyrics around my scat singing, which I then revised for my voice, then the song was recorded on Revelation as we left it. I also did some work on "Where Did I Lose Your Love" that went uncredited. My impression was that they were looking for someone who could contribute to the band from a songwriting standpoint, and I really think my work on "Every Little Thing" will go to prove that there would have been some merit in that idea. My opinion, for what it's worth, was that when they hired Arnel there was quite a bit of language and cultural barriers to any significant writing chemistry, and the clusterfuck of how things went down in that situation heightened tensions between Neal and Jonathan, and the result was that Revelation was a fairly paint by numbers walk through of Cain & Schon putting Journey-sounding material together and releasing the record. Very successfully I might add, so ultimately, what do I know, LOL.

Anyway, just my view of things.

Noticed you worked with John Spinks on a couple of different things. How did you two link up? What's he like to work with (and I imagine probably easier than Neal).

I had a casual acquaintance with Danny Roberts, The Outfield's business manager for much of the last decade, as Danny and I worked with the same CD distributor when we both had a CD out (The Outfield's "Any Time Now" and Frontiers' live CD) - I had mentioned my admiration for The Outfield to the guy who ran the CD distribution company and he put in a word for me with Danny. Danny came to several Frontiers shows in the Atlanta area and we talked shop and hit it off really well. Danny talked me up to John and when the Journey fiasco came apart, John reached out to me personally and after a few months we decided to try our hand at writing some material. Soon after, though, I began to get wrapped up in the full time touring of Frontiers, and John began working on The Outfield reunion that would become last year's Replay CD. We continued our friendship over the past couple years, and when it came time to finish work on "Every Little Thing," John helped me finish the demo we had recorded of "What Can I Do" and allowed me to include it on the CD. He's just a real giving, down to earth guy, and working with him was an incredible learning experience. John's as much of a producer as he is a guitarist and songwriter, and he approached our work from a producer's standpoint, always pushing to take our work to the next level. I guess the big difference in working with John versus Neal is that John is very much an "outward" looking person, and Neal is very much an "inward" looking person, if that makes sense.
