Prince's Concern over "Faithfully"

Postby jrny84 » Fri Feb 24, 2012 1:29 pm

I had never seen this interview before with John and Neil talking about Prince contacting them, expressing his worry that Purple Rain might be too similar to Faithfully. Sorry if this has been posted before.

Here is the interview:

Great interview with Jon.
'Nothing was bigger for Journey than 1981’s “Escape” album. “I have to attribute that to Jonathan coming in and joining the writing team,” Steve Perry (Feb 2012).'

I gain more respect for Jon with each and every interview he does.

I've seen this ...Although, I can't remember if it was here, I do remember
thinking that I'd never heard the similarity, so I listened ...and still, NO.
Now I'lll be forced to listen again.
Princes eccentricity is what makes him such a brilliant artist, I say he
just wanted some input.

How long ago was this?!? Neal looks/sounds exactly the same as he did on the Today
Show recently ...

It was during the European tour this past summer. There were a group of interviews from that same session that were linked to a few months back on this forum.

I heard this years ago and I, too, had to go back and listen to both. It's not "exact" but it's in the "whoa whoa whoa whoa"s. I think, given the perfectionist Prince is, and how extremely protective he is over his music, he would be more likely to hear the similarities and want to address the issue to ensure no toes are stepped on.
