Thanks for your appearance, Alan. (sp)

I think you are Alan Craft or Aliencraft at Anand Tech. Am I wrong? If you are, sorry for calling you out here.
Again, it's nice of you to show up. :)

I am so saddened to hear that Deano passed away! My heart goes out to Lula, Wyatt, and the rest of his family.  As I read all 6 pages of this thread, I am reminded of the time where Dean came up to spend a few days with me and my daughter Bryn, who was then a young girl. ( Bryn now is almost 16 years old) This trip happened just before Dean met Lula. I saw Dean in action on here, posting from my computer. It was a hoot! We had a great time. The next time I saw Dean was when he picked me and Bryn up from the Martinez Amtrak station beccause we were going to see JSS at the ARF show in Walnut Creek. The only things I can remember from that trip was going to a sports bar... and Dean and others were drinking some drink with red bull in it... and it smelled like cough syrup. I also remember Sunshine Twilight falling into a gutter and twisting her ankle when they were crossing the street to their hotel. (If anyone else was there on that trip, feel free to post your memories of that time. My mind is a bit fuzzy on who was all there!)

I will miss Dean like crazy..

RIP my friend... you will be missed.

You just had to remind everyone didn't you! LOL
My ankle is STILL messed up from that trip over the storm drain in 4 inch heels, after drinking WAY too many Jager Bombs! I still have video of Dean singing Journey songs into a pool stick! He had Mel, Lynn, I and others in hysterics that night! Good times!! :D

Aye, I just had to bring that up! LOL! It is one of the memories that sticks out from that trip. I didn't see it happen, but I heard about it later! I also met Cyndy and Lora at the ARF show as well. Who else did I meet there? My mind is a bit hazy... and I didn't even drink!

I'm only surprised it's not on his willy.

What can I say? Like everyone else, I thought Dean could talk like a total toe-rag, but there was a total sweetheart behind the motormouth. I'm in shock. I guess even as big a guy as Dean was, no human body could hold that much lust for life and all the experiences in it. Just wish the plans to meet in real life had panned out.

Andrew, is there any chance we can get a copy of all Dean's posts pulled together into a big file or something? Something to give to Wyatt for when he's older, so he can get to know his Dad. Maybe some of us can throw in the emails and PMs we still have hanging around, and the photos. It's going to be hard on that little guy growing up without his father; I'm sure it's going to mean a lot to him when he's old enough to understand to know how many people Dean affected.
Why treat life as a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in an attractive & well-preserved body? Get there by skidding in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand, chocolate in the other, body totally worn out, screaming WOOHOO! What a ride!

I never met Dean in person, but we exchanged PMs occasionally and shared a few full throttle debates on here a few years ago. In between the heated exchanges there was a lot of mutual respect.

Although some might heartily disagree with the stance Deano would take on any particular subject, any thread he contributed to automatically became compulsive reading. His posts were always provocative, usually extremely funny, and buried among the bravado and expletives were often nuggets of real insight.

I don’t post here much anymore, and that is partly since Dean was less active here. I used to thoroughly enjoy locking horns with him, and will miss that greatly.

Thoughts are with Lula, Wyatt and Dean’s family.

Nice post, sir! :)

No, doubt, Dean was a loose cannon, but one of the greatest I ever met. The fucker just had a way of putting things and I had lots of coffee, beer, or soda spewed a my monitor...what a spontaneous dude! :) :)

I really want him to chime in and say "I was just fucking with you...I'm still here". Dean, you are still here and you always will be with us. Rest well, friend.

As you can tell by post count and join date I hardly ever post. I have not posted a single thing in over 3 years to be honest… but the news of Dean’s passing has deeply saddened me. I discovered this website and message board during a dark time in Journey’s history but a bright time in a fan’s passion for rock ‘n roll integrity. His thoughts, insights, rants, and raves kept me coming back day after day, month after month, and eventually year after year. He helped me find the greatest melodic rock website and the greatest melodic rock journalist (Andrew). I have not been to the message board in a couple of weeks and to log in tonight and read this really hit me so much so it inspired me to post. Lula and Wyatt so sorry for your loss!

Rest in Peace Dean…and thank you for being you!

Many people here knew and loved Dean for all his faults. I being one of them. For all the fights he and I had, there was never a time I didn't love Dean like a brother. And I will miss him greatly. For those of you who believe in whatever higher power you choose, please offer prayers for Lula and Wyatt, and his older children and for Dean.

Lula is going to be getting me more info on any memorial service and such.

RIP Deano I love you, my brother.

Saw this last night and was in complete shock. Like so many other people, Rockindeano drew me to the boards. Though I never met him in person, his posts sometimes were so detailed, you felt like you knew him. His posts were the funniest I ever read. Every week you could come to the board and if you needed a good laugh, he provided a great post with tons of entertainment. He will be missed dearly. It feels like a celebrity you knew passed away. RIP Deano and prayers for your family. Thanks for the laughs.

This was my last PM from Dean...

I have to tell you this

Donna-

Politics is bullshit. That thread has everyone beating each other's brains out.

I just want you to know, that I do not think you are stupid. Nor do I think you are a selfish conservative. Don't think for a moment that I have forgotten all the kind things you did for me and Lula and all that entailed. I believe I have told you this before, but I wish I could go back and do a lot of things over. I would do things differently.

Some stuff I want to tell you in confidence- *removed out of respect for that confidence*

Anyway, I really wanted to convey to you in PM that I do not see you as a 'dumb bimbo' or a 'blind follower' or anything of that nature. In fact I respect your politics and your faith.

Thank you for allowing me to get this off my chest. I had originally written a PM prior, but somehow lost it, and now I am really pissed that I couldn't find the perfect words(the first one was perfect).

You take care, and I wish you and the family nothing but the best.

Dean

We were the best of friends at some times, and fought like crazy at others. (Not unlike many of you here that considered him a true friend)

Deano used to PM me a lot. Unfortunately I couldn't save them all but this is the last one he sent me that I could find.

"I agree with you that this Mr Big release is NOT a score Andrea gave it....but you brought into it the relationshi thing....something I wouldn't myself do..because Drew needs contacts and fame....perhaps you have way bigger balls than I....I will say anyhing if not to prove an injustice, however, Andrew is banking on this review to sell stuff. I am in your corner here, and a big time freedom of speech guy, but this is going to get ugly fast!

Love The Terrorist. Can't wait to meet you someday? Any chance you can take advantage of off peak fares and come for the LA Mrs Pig show? Stu is coming...? think about it buddy. You and me are the last giants to not have met here.

Love ya B "

Wish I would've made that trip , but I always thought there's a tomorrow ....

You got that right.. I remember him taking Krista and I site seeing in CA quite a few years ago. After he got done showing
us around, we said our goodbye's and he went to get something out of Lula's car.. and I told Krista.. "watch this.. I'm going to get him
good".. I honked the horn. He jumped 10 feet.. next thing I know, down goes his pants. He mooned us right there in the middle of the
street! We sat there a good 10 minutes laughing our asses off.

Oh man.. another time was when he roomed with us in Orlando.. he was sleeping on a cot in the middle of the room. He decided it was a
little warm so he was going to roll his cot on to the balcony and sleep there. (good thing too.. he snored like a buzz horn)
Next thing you know about 4am.. it started raining.. and you can hear him trying to roll cot back into the room cussing. Again... shot
straight up out of my bed laughing my ass off.

That's only a couple stories I have, there are many more.. he had such a warm heart. I remember on quite a few occasions being upset and him calling
me and talking to me for quite awhile to make sure I was ok. It really hurts that he's gone and we hadn't talked in quite some time. :(
He will be greatly missed. :(

Stuff like this reminds me of how much life is too short, and that we never truly realize how much we appreciated someone until they're gone. I enjoyed reading Deano's posts for their mix of candor and humor and there'll never be another like him. Godspeed Deano.

I heard the sad news from Trav last night. My deepest heart felt sympathy goes out to his family. I have been a lot of places and have done a lot of things and that time in Vegas was by far the greatest time of my life. I still remember saying to Dan in the Heart Bar @ Planet Hollywood, " I feel a change in the air right now. Something is different." Dan replied " yes I just received a text and Deano just got here." I did not meet him up to that point but had my share of disputes with him. I did not know what was going to happen or what to expect. In a nut shell, we sat down together at the bar and shared some great conversation. As a matter of fact we was holding up the entire group to go see the new Journey singer in his introduction concert. I remember word for word our entire conversation that night at the Heart bar. In a short period of time we become friends and bonded rather quickly. How about his argument with JT that weekend ? I miss everybody a great deal. That week changed my life forever and Deano played a very large part in it. I feel very sad right now for not touching base with him more. He will be missed but will remain here on these threads and forums forever.

I have to say, amidst the sadness, I'm glad there are many laughs to remember. And thankful my last conversation with him, though a while ago now, was one of kindness and of course great humor. Dean is that person that cemented that lesson for me I've always heard about, and he didn't even know it, and that is, "Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle." Our last conversation started all about that, he pm'ed me wanting to know how could I be kind to someone else on here he didn't seem to stand, lol. Someone who has battles in their soul to fight just like Dean did. We had a whole conversation about that, how everyone fights their battles inside differently, and none of us should tear each other down for how we deal with our inner battles. Anyhow I'm thankful our last words that while ago were of kindness, understanding, and of course ended in laughter.

Just reminds one to not to let hurtful words hang between you and someone you care about. If that's happening, go to that person.. try.. tomorrow isn't always a promise.
