Listening to the Every Little Thing CD tonight. Great stuff.
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

I'm going to have my daughter get "This Is Your Life". That song applies to us so much.

Jeremey wrote some pretty awesome lyrics on the songs..

Even if you got the gig, how much creative input would Cain/Schon let you wield? Augeri's writing credits were minimal. JSS was removed before he could rock the boat. I was re-listrening to Revelation the other day. Man, is that album soft. Prolly their most poppy effort since ROR. The band def. needs some outside help.

Hard to say. I know that my contributions to "Never Walk Away" were pretty organic - Neal brought the music in, I worked up a melody along with the band as they learned it, Cain built his lyrics around my scat singing, which I then revised for my voice, then the song was recorded on Revelation as we left it. I also did some work on "Where Did I Lose Your Love" that went uncredited. My impression was that they were looking for someone who could contribute to the band from a songwriting standpoint, and I really think my work on "Every Little Thing" will go to prove that there would have been some merit in that idea. My opinion, for what it's worth, was that when they hired Arnel there was quite a bit of language and cultural barriers to any significant writing chemistry, and the clusterfuck of how things went down in that situation heightened tensions between Neal and Jonathan, and the result was that Revelation was a fairly paint by numbers walk through of Cain & Schon putting Journey-sounding material together and releasing the record. Very successfully I might add, so ultimately, what do I know, LOL.

Anyway, just my view of things.

Writing chemistry is something that has been missing. As much as I like the Augeri days, it was missing in that part. Some of the better songs had someone else writing with the band, Jack Blades, etc...
As much as I like Eclipse, which I think is a strong record, it is missing a connection with the lead singer...

Thanks Rick, I had hoped there'd be a wide connection people/parents could make with that song. If I had the money I'd do a real video for it and push the hell out of it for upcoming mothers day/fathers day/graduation cross promotion.

I agree, I love this CD! It is addicting. Definitely 5 out 5 stars. Jeremy is an incredibly expressive singer with the songwriting chops to match.

This CD has spent several days in my car playing while going back and forth to work. The wow factor is still there. It definitely needs to find it's way to
more people's ears, as it is a hit. I can only imagine the difficulty in marketing when there is a budget involved. If this thing could make it onto iTunes,
or into a store, that would be great. Maybe commercial success was not the goal, which is cool, but it could make it.

Jeremy has achieved excellence, unfortunately in music, excellence doesn't always equal success. Just spread the word, on Facebook and YouTube. Independent albums need grassroots. I agree, there are some hit songs on that CD!

Thanks Steve, it will be released to iTunes in about a week, but that won't really mean more sales or more visibility, it's really just another store, and as a new artist people have to pretty much be looking specifically for you on a "store" site since there isn't any promotion from those outlets. I wish it had a little more visibility, true, but I knew when I made it that it wouldn't have any exposure unless I was out performing a couple of songs each night with Frontiers and selling it at shows. That won't happen until June, and since this release has been particularly under the radar, I do believe it will be seen as a "new" release still once we're back out performing.

Very true man, grassroots is where it's at. Just performing these songs and getting people who like the music to spread the words to their friends and fans is what it will take. Unfortunately there's no easy box to classify the release as....Most "indie" music blogs/reviews/fan sites, etc are geared toward a very specific market - it doesn't mean "all independent music" (though that's what some claim), it means "indie" as in what today's music is "alternative" - think REM in 1983 or Soundgarden in 1991....Plus I think the CD is a little too eclectic to fall under the "melodic rock" brand, in terms of broad acceptance of fans of that genre. It certainly isn't heavy rock or heavy metal....So it kind of occupies it's own little niche I guess....Which is cool, as it allowed me to release the CD I wanted to....But is also limiting in terms of the exposure I would get press/blog/radio wise.....

Plus I'm an old fuck. LOL. Nobody over the age of 30 should be releasing a debut album.

Stranger things have happened, Jeremey! Look at Susan Boyle. Ok, granted she went on a television competition, but she blew everyone away and she's almost 50. You've floored a lot of people with your voice. Everytime I show someone your vids, they say you've got a good set of pipes. That says alot, and you deserve to have this album out and circulating. And like you've said, you're lucky to have been able to finish it and get it out in light of the recent setbacks with your recovery.

It is coming by US mail, Annie...You live in Nevada and it was mailed from Virginia. And the site does clearly say ships within 2 days. I do not know how long first class mail takes to get from VA to NV, my shipments to South Florida were taking about 4-5 business days, so I would assume yours should arrive by today or tomorrow. Please feel free to contact me on the site's "Contact" link if you have any problems with the CD. Thanks!

didnt know whether to post this here or in the other thread in the off topic forum, so Ive posted it in both..........

Thank you Jeremey, my copy arrived on Saturday morning. It's now Tuesday afternoon British time and I've already played it more than I've played Revelation.

In a nutshell - I like it.

The packaging and the CD 'label' = amazing!

First of all, the rasp is very evident, so it is clear what you have been through with your voice.
I really, really hope you make a full recovery and that your voice comes back even better. And I hope the therapists have helped you so that you don't oversing or hurt your vocal chords again.

Your vocals on all the songs show you have an undeniable talent.

CAN'T YOU SEE HE'S GONE
The vocals on this are outstanding. And it's a great choice to open the album and give us a taste of what is to come. And the lyrics are interesting!

EVERY LITTLE THING **
Really like this one! Love the guitars and I dunno why but the piano on this one reminds me of Billy Joel.

STAY
Great singalong one. Brilliant hook. You really are a superb songwriter, Jeremey!

LOTUS
The rasp is very apparent in parts on this one. But even so, you sing it great! And that high note comes right out of nowhere! Bloody hell, man, it's amazing!
And I really love that line, "In the end I found the better part of me."

I THINK I KNOW ***
Well, what a moody little piece this is.
Atmospheric.
It flows like it's following a movie storyboard.
It conjures up images of a dark street, dimly lit and a guy with his collar turned up against the cold. He's searching a seedy part of town and the only thing missing is a sleazy sax.
Then the guy extends his search. We next see him driving a Dodge Challenger across the desert and all we need to add now to the song is a soulful Blues Harp.
Seriously, this would make a great soundtrack to the opening credits of a movie.

WHAT CAN I DO
Love the vox, keyboards and guitars on this.
I want to avoid comparisons to the Steve Perry sound, but this one does sound like you could have written it for 'Street Talk.' And that's a good thing.

And who is this John Spinks guy? I like him. You work well together.

HOPING FOR YOU
Another atmospheric and moody one, but I haven't warmed to this one yet. I will be playing the CD in the van to and from gigs though, so give it time.

GOODNIGHT SONG
Is that really you on guitars? Well done.
I have one gripe about this ...............................I HATE FADE OUT ENDINGS!!!

PRELUDE JEREMIAH
Pretty.

and now, you saved the best for last. What a fabulous song and a great one to close the album.

THIS IS YOUR LIFE *******
Soaring vox which gave me goosebumps. This really is the standout track for me.
I think it's an excellent song.
My only worry is the bit "I wanted you to know, instead of letting go, I've learned to let you grow"
sounds like "I know you're telling me the truth, and though it's just no use, I can't stay away from you" - Gloria Estefan's "I Can't Stay Away From You."

Overall comments,

I HATE FADED OUT ENDINGS.
I know this album is meant as a showcase for your voice and therefore the musicians took a bit of a backseat - but, I still think they could have been more equal in the mix.
The drummers are obviously 'feathering the brakes' which is a shame because if they had been allowed to let rip a bit and let their creativity out I think it would have helped rather than hindered the mix.
But I know you wanted to showcase your voice.

And when I win the Lotto and when your voice is better, I will send you a large cheque so that you can buy as much studio time with as many top session musicians as you want to record some more.

So, thank you for sending me the CD. I shall continue to listen to it and I wish you all the best in your recovery.

Oh, and I HATE FADED OUT ENDINGS.

Haha, thanks so much Susie, I'm glad you like the CD! I also hate fadeout endings LOL. I tried to keep all of my songs with a definite end - There's no need to fade out when a well constructed conclusion to a song is the perfect ending, plus you can't lip synch to a fade out track (ha just kidding). But, John did all the music on "What Can I Do," and he is based out of London, and with his schedule and commitments we kind of had to use the original demo and tweak it from there, thus eliminating the concise ending it really needed. Incidentally, John is the founder and guitarist of a band called The Outfield. Ironically, The Outfield is a London based band but never had any success in the UK, they had several huge hits in the US in the 80's and early 90's, songs called "Your Love," "All The Love In The World," and "For You" to name a couple. John is like the Neal Schon and Jon Cain of The Outfield all rolled into one package (without all the odd baggage the former two seem to carry around). Goodnight Song as a cover song had a fade out on the original tune, and the song we recorded ended with an extended acoustic guitar and bass coda, but it didn't add anything to the song really so we just left the ending the same as the original Tears For Fears song. (yes that is me on lead guitar ha!)

Thanks again for the compliments - I believe my voice is recovering well. I'm still in the therapy stages of my recovery, but I have about 2 months before I walk onstage again. I have learned more than I ever wanted to know about the human voice and all its frailties and quirks, LOL, so I should be more than equipped to maintain a healthy vocal regiment when I return to singing full time. Most importantly, though, what I've learned from all of this is that I can't compromise the health of my voice in order to get through shows or maintain commitments. I've learned that financially, things can never get as bad as the possibility of never singing again, and I've learned that it's okay to piss off people or disappoint people if it means I have to save my voice and not damage it due to singing while sick or weak. I know if I went back to the "old ways" I would be facing the same issues within a matter of weeks, but I've learned what's important and I won't ever lose sight of that again.

I hope you wear out the CD en route to many, many gigs and wish you the best with your instrument as well! Thanks so much and take care of yourself!

It's a fab CD.
You can be very proud of it.

The Outfield name does ring a vague bell. I'll look on youtube to see if I recognise any of their songs.

I think you have coped amazingly well with this voice issue.

I get almost suicidal when I get a even a tiny sniffle - paranoid that it will affect my voice.

I have the sniffles today and whatever is in my nose/sinuses is causing post nasal drip - I've taken allergy tablets in case its that.
I've gargled with salt water and I've been taking honey water with cider vinegar too.
And I'm sniffing Lavender oil on a tissue. And I'm using my sinus rinse kit regularly to wash out whatever is lurking in my nose/sinuses before they can take hold.
Its an awful worry.

I don't know how you have managed to stay sane throughout your ordeal.

However I do expect to see that you have started a thread in here soon giving vocal care advice.
Seriously!
Please.
Best wishes for your continued recovery.

I have been listening to this for a few weeks now and it just gets stronger for me. I agree, if you like it spread the word on FB,Twitter, google+ etc... I did.

Cool news that it will be on iTunes.
BTW, you just friended my little sister on Facebook. She's stoked! Her name is Shari. :D

I was wondering why "Going Under" didn't make the CD? When I downloaded the files for ELT, I also downloaded GU and has become one of my favorite tracks. I also want to say that I completely disagree the other musicians are sub par. I really enjoy some of the guitar solos on GU, GCYSHG and ELT. Very musical and tasteful playing. Every time I hear GCYSHG, it's is kind of the opposite path of Never Walk Away. The lyrics really paint a picture of the whole situation. I'm rambling...

For starters, Going Under is a different (and great) guitar player, Stephen Chesney.

Every Little Thing is definitely a tasty little piece of lead playing.

I liked the guitar solo that was on the demo Can't You See He's Gone a lot more, as I told J in the past.

Nice work....

Postby Joe Vana » Fri Mar 30, 2012 11:22 am

I finally have the album....

I actually like the direction....and the keyboards of course (Eric!).....

The production is different than I would have chosen....but I am sure financial constraints were in place....and, NOT BAD, just different is all....

Great Job.....be proud....and get out of that cover band and go do your OWN thing!!!! hahahahaha.....

I have had my own vocal issues lately....thyroid cancer....working on it, but might not sing again...but I can write!!

Vocally you however sound really good! Dumb question....what vocal chain did you use???

Congrats!!

Elaborate further on your thoughts about the production, Joe. Just curious.

Is it just my eyes or is the current Journey singer a mess and way too thin in the new video?

Seriously!

Thank you man, As Matt mentioned, "Going Under" was written with a different guitar player for a totally different sounding project. I think it's inclusion on ELT would have made the CD a little too lopsided between the AOR/melodic rock leanings and some of my more eclectic material. "Going Under" was also written specifically as a Journey sounding song with the specific intent of making a Journey-esque CD to market in tandem with Frontiers, the tribute show. I think if I wanted to do a balls out, no holds barred Journey sounding release, GU as well as the more Journey-esque arrangement of CYSHG would have fit perfectly!
