Post your favorite concert memory..........

Postby Deb » Thu Apr 26, 2012 2:59 pm

There is a few, but one of mine would have to be this month last year at the HOB on Sunset........seeing, for the first time one of my all-time favorite bands that 1.) never thought that would even re-unite, let alone record and tour again. 2.) Hadn't played US soil in over 15 years. 3.) Be lucky enough to see from front and center in a midsize venue. I still get a rush watching this video we took. MR BIG ~ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EYNhT_P- ... re=related Everything just aligned, the guys were on fire and totally excited and psyched about their first US gig in 15 years. From the band, to their peers in attendance, to the fans......the atmosphere was like nothing I'd ever experienced before. The bands chemistry was undeniable, not to mention the talent that radiated off that stage. And to find out that they are all very down to earth and super cool human beings was just icing on the cake! One concert experience that I'm sure will put a smile on my face for years. :D

Post up one of your favorite concert memories......

Just had to fix that, there.

LOL! Fucking funny!

Mine had to be with 3 other friends of mine, Mark, Joe, Adrian going to see Van Halen on their 1984 tour. One of the dad's was a major drug dealer and had spent many years locked up at Rahway. Left with a cooler full of beer, 4 eight balls, and more pocket rockets than you could ever fire up. Going down I95 in Joe's T-Bird, having to pull over on I95 to take a piss right on the side of the road with no worries other than draining the hose. Having to pull over when we got to Lauderdale at the first exit in not the most desirable part of town cause we ran out of beer. All the business's in the area had fucking bars on their windows because of crime, walked into this little run down store that sold beer, surrounded by dark men looking at all of us whitey's like "what the fuck are you doing in here". Paying for it while the car was running only to come out and our car was surrounded by mean dark men. It didn't help that the T-bird smelled like a rain forest of Ganja. Gave them fuckers some reefer and we were on our way. Met some fine ass miami ho's at the concert and didn't make it back home for a whole week, lol. Man, lol, I'll never forget it cause when we got home on that sunday, the super bowl was on and we had another party that lasted all night! We were young and set the night on fire for sure.

Nothing stood out to me more than the meet & greet at the Halestorm concert I went to. Got a chance to chat with Lzzy and finally met someone who had as much passion for the ladies of rock as I do. She was really impressed that I was a fan of the more obscure artists that she thought nobody else had heard of before, be it the 80's rockers or the more recents. She waved away security so that she could talk a couple more minutes with me regarding the topic. No other concert memory sticks out more with me than that one.

I was at a Benjamin Orr show at the "Network" night club in Pasadena, MD I don't know how many years ago. There was some guy sitting alone towards the back at one of those high top tables. Maybe 3 songs into the show he starts screaming really loud in between songs yelling out requests. It became really annoying and he was obviously loaded and enjoying the attention he was drawing to himself.

Later in the set the guy gets up off his stool, smiles (why I don't know) and projectile vomits all over the table and everyone near him. It wasn't just once, they were multiple gushers. When he finished he sat back on his stool like nothing happened.

Security came over and grabbed him and he was arguing with them as they dragged him out of the club. I couldn't stop laughing the rest of the show and my friends who were with me still instantly crack up the second one of us brings the incident up. It's like a tape recording in my head I can rewind at anytime.

I think the fact that the dude smiled before upchucking is what really made the moment.

I was in college early 70's. Saw Pink Floyd in Madison WI. A bunch of my friends and I decide to eat a "brownie" before the show. that way we had no contraband on our person. Back then Pink Floyd was one of the very first bands to use pyrotechnics on stage, surround sound and lasers. The show was great, During the climax of "Be Careful With That Ax Eugene", there is a very long highpitched scream, and the explosions on stage went off. The crowd went crazy. So did one of my friends who freaked out, started crying and screaming "They blew up Pink Floyd!!!!" Everyone around us started laughing so hard, us included.   It took us a while to calm her down and explain those were just big fireworks and Pink Floyd was fine. I still laugh everytime I think about it.

A few that stand out:

First concert being Journey at the Rose Bowl at the end of the Escape tour.

Being dragged kicking and screaming to an Oingo Boingo concert in 1982 and being floored at how good they were. Saw them 4 or 5 more times after that.

Seeing my first concert breasts from a woman at an Iron maiden concert.

Showing up early to Steve Perry's 1994 warm up show and getting to watch his sound check, which is the most incredible thing I have ever seen, musically.

Journey - 1986 - Mountainaire - period!

High-Fiving Kenny Loggins from front-and-center seats after he floored me emotionally with a new song. And meeting him after the show to tell him about it.

Seeing Melissa Etheridge for the 7th time last Saturday (after meeting her briefly) and having my annual restoration of faith in music. I've seen better overall shows from her, but this is the best I have heard her personally sound (both singing and guitar). She's amazing.

Many more highlights, but those jump out. As soon as I hit submit, another will come to mind that I should have included.

LOL! Gotta say, sometimes when it comes to you and MG, I swear we must have been separated at birth. Was the first and last time I ever had those funny little mushrooms, but I guess if you are going to try them it might as well be at Pink Floyd concert. :) I have an hilarious Pink Floyd memory also. It didn't actually happen to me but one of the people that was with us. Still makes me chuckle when I think about it. My ex hub didn't usually go to many concerts, but he was a big Pink Floyd fan. When they were playing a city 3 hours from us.......we, and 3 other people all travelled up in a van. One of the guys with us was also a big PF fan and was excited and consumed MANY beers at the pub before and the roadtrip up there, woohooing all the way totally psyched. He was blasted by the time we got there and could barely stumble around let alone be any kind of coherant. We got our hotel rooms (he was sharing one of the other rooms) and threw him in his to sleep it off and went for a bite to eat.

Just before we left we tried to wake him, he was still waaaay drunk. So all we could do was leave his ticket on the night stand and hope he was sober and up in time to cab it to the concert.......as none of us wanted to drag him around and babysit him all night. Needless to say we all toasted our drinks to 'Wish You Were Here' and I still have a giggle when I hear 'Comfortably Numb'. We all got back to the hotel after the show and he was just up and getting ready to go.....LOL he thought we were there to pick him up for the concert, he didn't even know!! Until we pointed out the time and his ticket on the night stand. Needless to say, it was a much more subdued roadtrip home for poor Chuck. Poor guy, it was one expensive little nap.

Oct 1977 got to see...Harry Chapin and John Denver and James Taylor & Gordon Lightfoot ...in the round.. Was the 1st world hunger concert set up by Chapin..
This was basically their band for the nite..with the exception of Lightfoots guitarist...
Amazing night....amazing setlist they all did...
Perry's good natured bonhomie & the world’s most charmin smile, knocked fans off their feet. Sportin a black tux, gigs came alive as he swished around the stage thrillin audiences w/ charisma that instantly burnt the oxygen right out of the venue.TR.com

The [2] that I can think of is probably my first concert which was Def Leppard on the Slang tour. But, the all time favorite was (que Dean insult) getting to see Europe on the Start From the Dark tour. After waiting so long to see my favorite band, it was amazing to see them live and have the chance to meet and chat with them.

This concert definitely brings great memories - a fun day of music, a great enthusiastic crowd despite the heat in the foothills. Bikinis, water balloon and water pistol fights. Tons of fun.

Others that come to mind right now....

AC/DC on the Fly on the Wall tour with Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force opening. Featuring rookie singer JSS at the time.

Stevie Ray Vaughn and Jeff Beck, just a while before SRV's death.

1st time seeing Rush (I believe the Power Windows tour) which was awesome in and of itself, but also introducing me to one of my favorite guitarits, Steve Morse, who was the opener.

The Bill Graham Memorial concert in SF. Not so much for the music, but just the atmosphere and the absolute sea of humanity that showed up for that.

Deep Purple on their second go around through the US after their Perfect Strangers reunion. Absolutely spectacular show with Bad Co. opening (unfortunately without PR).

An absolutely awesome Iron Maiden, Y&T, Tesla, & Waysted show at San Jose State Spartan Stadium.

VH's Monsters of Rock tour, Day on The Greens, The Stones, Pink Floyd, too many other great shows to mention.

Kinda have the same feeling regarding INXS w/Hutch, too. :( Would love to have seen them LIVE, my gawd Michael Hutchense was one charismatic and engaging frontman. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=70NgpF_ue_0&feature=fvst

Luckily, me being old and all, I got to see Queen about 6 times which I never would have done if not for that first show.

Okay, I hate you!

ok, I think the most memorable one for me was a Butch Walker show a couple of years ago. For those unaware, he's better known as a songwriter and producer for a lot of big names happening at the moment (Pink, Avril Lavigne, etc), but he's also got a bit of a ferocious live following as a solo artist and, quite simply, puts on one heck of a rock show. Either way, he was playing at this club/theatre packed fairly tight and for the encore came out without the band with just an acoustic guitar. He jumped into the crowd and went to about the middle of the floor and motioned for everyone to sit down, then sat down himself and did the last song totally unplugged as a campfire-singalong with no mics or anything. VERY cool experience.

I've been going to concerts for 40 years but as far as pure performance the 2 that stand out for me was seeing Tina Turner just after she started her solo career and before she hit it big with Private Dancer. I was at Summerfest a big music festival in Milwaukee and she was the headliner on one of the side stages. We had a table in the front row. WOW! No one had ever seen anything like her before. She tore that stage up! The other was the Joe Bonamassa concert I went to last spring. His name kept popping up on the internet and I liked what I heard on youtube so I thought I'd check him out. I've never been to a show before where people sat in rapt attention with their mouths literally hanging open in awe. That show made me a fan for life.

Going to my first ever concert in 1980 and seeing the excellent Blackfoot opening up for the Scorpions.

Seeing for the first time my favourite guitarist Schenker with his band MSG in 1981.

Attending The Monsters Of Rock festival at Donington in 1986 with Ozzy, Scorpions and Def Leppard (when they were great)and having bottles of piss hit me repeatedly on the head.

I was lucky enough to have my first concert be Ronnie James Dio on the Sacred Heart tour with the dragon stage show. Right out of the gate I got to see an amazing performer on one of the greatest stage sets of all time!
