We really don't know this guy on this side of the pond. I ask people who Joe is, but nobody knows, at least the people I know. I'm gonna delve into his work and see if I like him. Where should I start?

Just about any of his solo stuff is good. I also like the album with Bloodline that he did.

I would say 'Sloe Gin', 'Ballad of John Henry' and 'Dustbowl' are all great albums, containing staple songs he will play live. Also the live DVD's from the Royal Albert Hall and the NY Beacon Theatre give you an idea of his mastery on the guitar.

To be honest, though, I don't think any of the albums or DVDs really do justice to what he is like to see live. Probably the Beacon theatre show comes closest. I guarantee if you see him your jaw will be gaping open in awe as you watch and listen to him. Even the songs that are just OK on record take on a brand new life on stage.

absolutely true Marty. my cousin gave me Sloe Gin when it came out in 2006. I was intrigued but became totally hooked after seeing Joe live a month later. and back then he barely looked at or interacted with the crowd. now 6 years later, he has just become an amazing performer and you will be transfixed and even holding your breath at points. Joe is also one of the most online friendly artists. He frequently posts on facebook and posts on his forum. He is also a part of the Les Paul forums and posts there too. Right now if you register for the newsletter, you can get his new single for free download "Driving Towards Daylight' http://jbonamassa.com/freemp3/ 8)

I completely agree with everything you said. Listening to his studio albums as good as they are or watching a video can't possible match the live experience. It wasn't until I went to see a live performace that I truly appreciated just how great a guitarist Joe really is. For those who are hesitating if Joe comes to your town, take a leap of faith and buy a ticket!

I remember seen Joe playing at The Corner down here in Melbourne to a crowd of 100 people, before he went Blues festvial in Byron.
One of my favourite cd which Joe features is "Holy Man" by Joe Lynn Turner.

Absolutely correct. I just saw him again 3 weeks ago. My wife, who's not that much into music, especially guitar players, LOVES him. She GLADLY went with me to see him a third time. During the show, she kept saying "He just doesn't stop!" One song right after another, for 2 1/2 hours, and EVERY SONG is treated like it's the feature song of the evening. My wife remarked after the show, that he's definitely playing for himself. He would undoubtedly play with just as much passion if the theatre were empty. But no need to worry about that-he's been sold out every time I've seem him.
On a related note, I had my nephew catch one of his show a week after I saw Joe. I got a call IMMEDIATELY after he left. "Holy shit!"

Do yourself a GREAT favor, and see him live!

Joe is one of the best and hardest working guitar players in the business. High octaine blues/rock. "Live from the Royal Albert Hall" would be a great starter (I have the Beacon DVD, but haven't finished it yet). Joe inspires me to play now like Neal used to.

Great selection Maverick! Love that gold top Lester. I sure wish I had a ticket to one of Joe's 7 totally acoustic concerts he's doing in Europe this summer. But we'll get the next best thing a new DVD is the making ...Yes! :D :D :D

Great to see he's coming to Perth, can't wait to see him live since getting the Live At Rockpalast DVD imo has the edge on Albert Hall.

No he left in 2008 a few years before BCC. Jason and his family had moved to Florida and Jason was tired of being on tour and wanted to spend time with his family. Also, he had been spending time writing and jamming with Jimmy Page & John Paul Jones. Jason was really hoping Led Zeppelin would get back together which was his big dream. Of course it never happened, so he decided to launch the "Jason Bonham's Led Zeppelin Experience" to honor the 30th anniversary of his dad's death. (Which is a great show by the way!) Jason had done some session work on one of Joe's cd's that Kevin Shirley produced. When the idea of Glenn Hughes & Joe Bonamassa forming a band came up in 2009, Kevin called up Jason and he was on board with the project. They started recording in Jan of 2010.
