What was SP thinking?!

I just listened to the 'Quest For Camelot' album for the first time and I have to ask, what was Steve thinking with that dreadful accent on 'United We Stand'? Was he trying to sound British or something? I love to hear him sing on anything, but the silly voice on this just baffles me

he sings this way because he's in character for the movie?
a very forgettable movie, but with both songs he could still obviously sing...
I stand alone, which take it for what it is, a cartoon soundtrack song,
Steve gives stellar vocals.

I had the sense to realise he was in character, I was a little taken aback by the vocal, tis all. I saw the film a few years back. Didn't think it was awful, just put off by the poor quality of the animation. I bet hearing I Stand Alone over the end credits in a cinema would have been incredible
