Soto/Martel show. Jeff is the mentor and sang the first 2 or 3 songs and probably sang the majority of tracks. Martel is really good and is a musician playing the piano and guitar. Very quiet dude. Nice though.

How did Jeff get involved in this? I saw the auditions for this but he wasn't part of that. Was he brought in afterward or had they planned to include him in it already?

Let me bring some clarity: Jeff has made plain his desire to be involved with Queen for some time, and he was aproached as long ago as November as to his availability and we began to make contingencies, but were in the midst of planning his own tour to support 'Damage Control' and that seemed to rule out any QE involvement. Yet Roger Taylor called Jeff to see if he could bring his 'rock' side into the process.
Neither he, nor Yvan were involved in the audition process, but they were hand picked by Roger and it has to be said that the nine musicians all blend beautifully.

I was at the show in DC last night, and I couldn't agree more about how they blend. Honestly, after watching AI I was a little hesitant about what to expect. THEY BLEW ME AWAY!!! If you get a chance to go to a show, I PROMISE you won't be disappointed!

Jeff is definitely the mentor in all this. It was a really cool show. I made it a point to seek out Marc and apologize for comments he has never read here.

Really cool show and I get why Roger and Brain asked Jeff to participate. JSS and Martel are the show. The other 2 singers are good, but they don't get as much time. It was planned out very well for all.

Thanks to all my friends last night for a great time!

Its like I said after the Quebec opener, it is a truly great package.

For me the stand outs are: Lap of the Gods, under pressure, stone cold crazy and March of the black queen

What an absolutely INCREDIBLE show last night in DC. It was SO much more than I ever expected!!! AI & YouTube videos don't even begin to do the band justice! So glad that Jeff is a part of this and I hope that the tour expands and grows into something bigger. It would be great if they could continue on, adding some of the more obscure Queen catalog to the set.

My only regret about last night is that we didn't get the full stage production as it was scaled back due to the limited space of the venue. I hope if the QE tours here again, that they would book a larger venue with an adequate stage to accommodate the full production.

Thanks to all who gathered pre & post show and a HUGE "Thank You" to Jeff for making the night one to remember!! I will be posting photos/video as soon as I retrieve my "lost" camera from the venue, where I have left it! :P

Very few clips of this one have made it to YT, but you can tell he's getting better and better at it with each show (tough song). I fully intend to get the BEST recording of this on Monday :)

. . . OK, maybe not THE best (video's not close enough) but I'm amazed at how good the sound is with my phone, and Marc nailed this. Had I known I would have tried to record more than a few (except I was having too much fun :D ). Great show, I'd see it again in a heartbeat.

Man they kicked my ass @ Monday's show, too bad it was the second last one. Great show! Was great to see Jeff again too and you too S. :) LOL my daughter must have poked me about 3 times during the show saying it was really weird to hear somebody else doing this or that song......she has heard JSS's Queen cd a few times. Martel is going to be the focus. No way around that.

Jeff does have a major portion of the show however.

I've seen a few clips now and it is way better than what was on American Karaoke.

American Karaoke contestants sounded much better than the whole Queen fiasco. They looked RIDICULOUS up there, and JSS's fist pumping was weird as hell and WAY out of place. I was ashamed to be a queen fan while watching that garbage. Queen need to just hit the road themselves with Martel IMHO.

Ouch...just saw the performance, Mr. Soto looks....way out of his comfort zone there. hmm....

That was their first live performance, and not at all an indication of what the live shows were like. There are many others here who saw them who I'm sure would agree. Trust me, he was terrific (they all were) and not at all 'out of his comfort zone' . You might want to check out some of the later videos on YT (which really don't do justice to the live show).

I think we should remember that Jeff was ASKED by Roger and Brain to join the QE.... that in itself speaks volumes..

True.
But Dan had a point: For all the praise May was quick to heap on Jeff, he hasn't been named their official lead singer yet.

There's no way anyone but Martel could be named their official singer now... right or wrong, his voice takes people to Freddy-land...

anyone else and the fan outcry would be obvious...

I would take anyone involved in the Queen Extravaganza singing with Queen over Adam Lambert.

I liked Paul Rodgers with Queen. It was obvious they were not at all going for a soundalike. With Lambert, it seems a bit like they're going for a soundalike, but it falls way short. He just doesn't work for me, with Queen or solo. I would love to see Queen live, but I never will as long as Lambert is on vocals.

I have been of a similar pov but am going to see them on Saturday - then I will be able to make my mind up. But for me its always been JSS, however, the powerful combination of the four vocalists on QE was a great experience. Each has their own style and delivery and they all add to the Queen oeuvre.

Agreed. I tried giving him a chance. I saw it in some of his American Idol videos and was hoping that it wouldn't rear its ugly head with Queen. I figured either he would realize it wasn't appropriate with classic music like Queen to bastardize it like that with that ridiculous vibrato, or Roger and Brian would tell him to cut the shit. Guess not. He would sound so much better without it.
