Thanks so much for sharing this one!!!!

You gotta love this man he is so cute! :D

Just one question though.

Where the heck was I when he was finally in my State? :?

Oh wait one more question, how do these people know he was going to be there?
Or do they just carry their Journey albums where ever they go just in case?

Wish I was there ?

Peace.

They are professional stalkers, not fans and are only in it for the money they make selling celebrity autographs.

I just don't get that .... Unless that autograph was for me I would not have any interest in it.

Yeah, but how do THEY know. I mean I don't want to know where Steve is going to be, I'd never want to bother the guy -- but how is it they know exactly where and when he's traveling? Kind of frightening, actually.

Having said that, gotta say, Steve's in the best shape I've seen him in since his FLTOSM tour -- and his speaking voice sounds very pristine! Whatever he's doing is working!

That's the million dollar question. I see that at least one guy is in both the NJ & NY videos. They have obviously paid someone off to get the info. Sick stuff, for sure.

I almost feel like these videos are being made as leverage against Steve in these situations. He knows these guys are vultures, but he's signing anyway. If he tells them no, they can edit the footage to make him look like the bad guy, then sell the footage (and the controversy) to TMZ or some other video rag. And the headline reads: "Steve Perry disses fans!" So either way, these guys win.

Pretty effed up.

I feel bad for him. I think some of those people are a little scary. And he has had this for years and years. You keep saying somebody is telling them when he will be there, who do you think is doing that? Somebody ought to spit Beechnut in that dude's eye, as the song goes.

I've always found that when you are cordial and courteous when you meet a celebrity, they tend to be more responsive to you. Not much, as they're not expected to when you're asking for an autograph. You're not looking to make friends with them. And yes it is tough to keep your composure when you are THISCLOSE to your favorite celebrity. But when you give them their space and are polite, the brief encounter is much more comfortable for them, and much more memorable for you.

I was once in a hotel bar after a concert, and the band that we saw showed up. We had no idea they were staying in the same place as us. I just sent them a round of drinks (some just ordered San Pelegrino or soda, so the gesture was accepted and appreciated), and I raised my glass from the other end of the bar and said "thanks fellas for a great show." Two minutes later, they invited us to sit with them. And we sat for a half hour in awe listening to their great stories.

With that said, I hope that the creeps in this video don't ruin the future opportunities for fans to have a nice encounter and ask for an honest autograph. Especially the dude who goes on in this video..."that's how much I love you Steve." If he's milking it to try and cover up the business end of it, he took it too far. And if he is an honest fan....still, too far!

I can't recall ever asking a celebrity for an autograph when just seeing them out and about. It's always been in an environment where it's normal course (before/after a show, etc). I've talked to a few after they were very inviting, but don't think I've ever stopped anyone. I grew up in So Cal, so sightings were frequent. I usually would just give a "hey it's you" look and a nod. I just don't see the need to bother people.

That said - if I saw Steve in an airport by chance, I would probably search every inch of my brain for a way to say hi and how much I've enjoyed his music. But it would be brief. If he was in conversation or eating or hustling along, I wouldn't bother him.

I don't chime in much and but I do read on this website quite a bit...had to voice my opinion here.

People who do not have an agreement with 'said' celebrity and get multiple items signed and sell them for their own benefit (Meaning that they do not donate to the celeb's charity per item signed/sold) kills the experience for us well-meaning autograph seekers that just want to meet people we admire say hello and get ONE item signed.

I do not mind people making a buck if they have an agreement in place with the celeb before hand. (some do) (i.e. donating to stars' charity when they sell their autograph)

Most of these people do NOT however and it ruins the experience for true fans.

As a autograph collector for 25 years, I'd love to meet Mr Perry, say hi and thank him for the great music he has made.
I WILL NOT bother any celeb on their personal time.....PERIOD.

Real autograph collectors have a true code of conduct and we honor it.

If a celeb is out and about at an official gathering or to promote something then 'yes' they are fair game.

Mr Perry was gracious to sign for these people and hopefully one day I'll get to meet him when he puts out and promotes his new CD :)

The only upside to this is that if you are an autograph collector, there's a good chance that this is an authentic autograph. Personally, unless I'm there for the signing, or I know the person who got me a signed piece...I have no faith in its authenticity.

It's too bad Steve couldn't tell them to put it where the sun don't shine when they were swarming all over him, but that makes for bad press.

One thing that I have always found so funny is "certificates of authenticity." The very person who is selling the item is the one printing up the COAs assuring you it's legit. And this guy says "hey, my boss saw the signing." That is beyond stupid. These two guys work for the same company so it isn't reassuring to me at all when I read something like that. Of course, their situation is a bit different here because they do have the video of SP signing the stuff, but I see so many other sites where they provide a COA that they printed up.

I once went to a record collectors show at the Valley Forge Convention Center. Somebody was trying to sell 'the original registration plates used to print the Departure album cover.' Basically he had a color print of the album cover, with extended white area for crop marks and registration marks. For anyone in the printing business (like myself), you would know that you could make one of these at home in about 10 seconds.

I never went back to a record show again.

I don't know, but in my personal opinion, the whole big thing about having an autographed item is that you, yourself are the one who got the item signed by that celebrity. The autograph is sort of like a "bookmark" to remember that time you got to meet that famous person face to face, and the autograph is personalized to you. It's a rarity, because we all don't meet celebrities every day, or the ones we admire the most everyday, so it's a special thing. I just hate the idea of someone making money off of it as a business. And I don't care about any COA, unless I'm there during the signing or unless the celebrity tells me over the phone that he/she is sending me a personalized autographed item, I just don't find it as special. I have an autographed copy of one of Faith Hill's albums. I don't think the seller of whom I bought it from realized it was autographed when they sold it to me off of Half.com. I don't display it or anything, it just sits on the shelf with my other CDs. Now if I was the one who got to meet Faith Hill and got her to sign this CD, I would have probably framed the cover.

That's so funny me too. I almost broke my mouse trying to get in here. Then I saw the correct spelling before it changed pages and yet convinced myself in that short span of time that it could have been they just switched those little letters. Easy enough to do. hehehe Oh well, maybe one day. I'm not a loon just a Don't Stop Believing kind of girl. :)

And remember creeps come in sheeps clothing.   You know I really can't imagine having to stand there and sign those for those people knowing who and what they are. There should be some kind of law against it. He should and all of them should have some kind of protection against that. The way they are all gathered around and they are constantly shoving things in his face is kind of invasive. They should always have a guard there when he is going to sign stuff. Did anybody ever find out who Derek was?
