2001 Arrival Intro

Postby Ehwmatt » Mon Jul 02, 2012 11:14 am

This just came up on my iTunes shuffle. This was such a cool little intro solo. Wish the band still did stuff like this. I wish they'd come out to something like this (or even Majestic again).

I like it.
But out of all the concerts I saw, nothing got the crowd pumped more than the backstage footage of the band coming out to the stage to "Back In Black." I nearly went deaf from the crowd roar in Nashville 2008.

I also kinda miss the central screen.

Red 13 has a synthesizer/guitar/drum intro that they used as a lead-in to shows in 2002 and 2003. Generations also starts with a music-only intro before leading into Augeri's primal yell on FITH. Revelation and Eclipse also have instrumentals, but they stand as separate songs and veer too far into indulgent Schon-noodle territory. Part of what makes Majestic so cool is that it's simple. I also like the brief instrumental on Departure. Not sure why the band got away from this.

They opened with Majestic in 2009.....love that, but my favorite is the Arrival intro for sure.

The Arrival intro is their best ever.

Ok since we're on the subject. I keep asking this from time to time but nobody ever seems to know. Does anyone know what Neal was playing as the intro to the 1998 Tour when they first came back? Dont have the clip right now but I know the intro is on youtube right before they broke into Separate Ways.

I'm gonna say it's a bastardized version of "When The Love has Gone." I think they also played parts of "Destiny" during those shows, but later in the setlist.

Neal probably doesn't remember himself. After hearing him put HSAS material into WITS a few years back, it's clear that Schon isn't above recycling parts and creating instrumental hybrids.

Don't you mean WITS?

You are right, where did get Open Arms from?
My Home Town was the song he pulled the riff from if I remember correctly.

Well he did throw a solo in Open Arms. Sounded great.

Everon

Postby Idiosyncrasy » Sat Jul 07, 2012 7:24 am

That 2001 intro always reminded me of the title track (instrumental) from Everon's Venus album:

(click on the play button (not 'Play Now') - may need to turn the volume up a bit)

Oliver Philipps pulls off some VERY Schon-esque guitar solos and Cain style piano on Everon's later albums. Check out 'Harbour' which, musically, always reminds me slightly of Journey.
