I know, I was shocked too. I'm actually hoping this will be part of a live dvd they may put out. Ha Ha. Yeah Right.

Yes, that double live DVD with the 1982 Live Performance and This one...

Call TIGER LIVE - Risen Up for Three Decades

I think it's set for release next month.

Sept. is when they confirmed the release of the complete re-recorded Vital Signs with David Bickler on Vox...

And the Duel-Lead Singer reunion tour, with FS, JP, and MD is set for next year; starting in Feb.

This band rocks for its fans!

In all seriousness, is it too much to ask to put out a live dvd? Really? Or at the bare minimum put out a new single for fans to download? Is that really asking so much. Think about all the new music that has been written and gone unreleased over the years. Surely there is one gem that they could currently record with JJ on vocals. That would go along way in winning back the true fan base. I'm not talking about the people who show up at a fair for free. Those aren't the fans. The fans are those like myself who buy their material and travel great distances to see them play.

Slander you are not being reasonable...I mean, they have made some really kick ass cover design work for the fans that you can/could see on the site! What do you want! It's never enough for you guys!

How about all those pics of the guys recording new music? All I ask for as a fan is honesty/transparency. We don't need be strung along. If this is all it's going to be, 30 shows a year for a paycheck, just let us know.

I really doubt there's enough market for a live DVD. It can't be cheap to make those, and for a band that's basically been irrelevant to most of the population since the mid-1980s, I just don't see how it could be profitable.

As for a downloadable single-- Yeah, that would make sense. As you said, Slander, they've written enough material, so they must have SOMETHING they could release. Hell, even if they just gave us a proper recording of one of the songs from the Fire Makes Steel demos (like "Someone Else's Sleepless Night" or whatever), it would be nice. I mean, there are people on eBay and wherever who are actually paying to get crappy recordings of those songs illegally, so surely there would be people willing to pay to get good recordings of them legally.

Actually joe that's exactly what they need to do....put out a live dvd of an old show. Let's face it, the only people who would buy any NEW survivor product is the real fans of the band. Those are also the same people who've followed the band for years both the glory days and now. Since it's obvious that sullivan has no intention of EVER putting out any new music, what better thing than to release a live dvd from the old days, remind the fans of how good this band was and/or could've been. Especially since that's all the fans have to hold on to.....the old days.

I like that idea. It would be great, if the set included a couple of new tracks. Surely they have a couple of new tunes they can play in concert after that exhaustive song writing! My god, there has to be at least a couple of classic Survivor gems after decades of work that we haven't heard.

Eh, I guess it might be marginally better than nothing for some people. Honestly, though, I couldn't see myself shelling out money to watch them perform the same old songs that I've been hearing for the past 30 years.

Since we haven't had a live dvd since when? Like never, I'll take it.

I guess I just never much cared for concert DVDs. And I've made the mistake of buying a few of them, despite the fact that I hardly EVER want to sit and watch them. Being at a concert is great, but watching that same thing from your couch in the living room just doesn't work nearly as well for me. Somehow, when you're actually at a show, hearing the "same old stuff" is okay. But when I'm sitting on my couch watching/listening to it, I always feel like surely there's something better I could be doing with my time.
Someone once asked me, "Well don't you ever listen to old CDs again?" Yes, plenty of times. But that's different. I can do other things while listening to a CD. I'm usually riding the train to work, or going for a walk, or cleaning, or whatever. With a DVD, I'm jut kind of trapped on the couch.

But if you enjoy concert DVDs in general, then yeah, I can understand why you might want one of Survivor.

I don't know about where any of you guys live, but right now it's truly Too Hot To Sleep here where I live.
......................................................................................................................................................................

I'm glad to see that Droubay has gone back to using a bass-drum with the Survivor logo on it. I always liked that.

Damn, guys, that's what it's come down to now, being "excited" to see a bass-drum-head with a band name on it.
Not a new album, not a big tour, not Peterik being back in the band. But a bass-drum-head.

Absolutely spot on.

I also think the band believes there's nothing left to accomplish....just rehash. No one's going to buy anything new unless it's only old music in so called "new" album or DVD.

Having finally watched the video and a couple others from that show i'll offer the following observations: Giving for it being unmixed sound per say.......Jimi's voice sounds rough.....sullivan's voice is WAY to high in the mix as it overpowers the lead vocalist and that shouldn't happen.....and finally sullivan is still overplaying way too much.....he's adding stuff to songs that aren't in the originals. If you are going to be a nostalgia act( And truthfully that's all they are now) then you need to be faithful to the original recordings, if you want to indulge etc great, do it with new music.

Oh and one more thing......anyone notice the computer attached to the keyboards??? It sits right in plain sight on top.....that screams samples.....meaning it ain't all live boys and girls.

Actually, not necessarily. The keyboard player could be using the computer for many other things, like (1) sight reading, (2) build his synthesizer sounds [e.g., through a software synthesizer], or (3) to set a click track for the band to stay in time.

I'm not hearing many glaring examples of canned backing vocals here. I can't imagine what else they'd sample. There's no canned rhythm guitar, and Jimi is pretty clearly singing live.

I agree. I don't think there was any programming of that song, at least. They were playing way too fast...who would program a song to be that fast? lol

Probably there as an accessory, not to replace the keyboardist...

Wise words. Why waste some different riffs on an old tune?

I think if it was implemented in new music say also using ideas from older Survivor tunes, it would sound like Survivor but different songs nonetheless. Sigh.
