Neal Schon

I've Buried the Hatchet with Tareq Salahi

http://www.tmz.com/2012/08/15/neal-scho ... settlement

The $50 million war over Michaele Salahi is finally over ... TMZ has learned Journey guitarist Neal Schon struck a settlement deal with Tareq Salahi ... ending their legal battle for good.

We broke the story ... Tareq Salahi sued Neal for $50 mil, claiming Schon didn't just steal his wife ... but screwed him out of several lucrative opportunities he had planned to pursue with Michaele ... including reality TV shows.

The terms of the settlement are confidential.

A rep for Journey tells TMZ ... "Neal Schon and Journey are very pleased with the resolution of all legal issues and claims involving Mr. Salahi."

"While a judge previously dismissed Mr. Salahi’s claims on two separate occasions, all matters have now been finally resolved."

Sources close to the situation also tell us ... Michaele is also "very pleased" that her divorce is in its final stages.

I would say this is unbelievable but past actions show that it really isn't. Tariq knew if he held up the divorce long enough, he would get something in the end. Even if it's only a million dollars, that's a million dollars that should have never changed hands at all if Neal had the stomach to keep dealing with the idiot.

I get it that Schon doesn't like to wrangle over legal issues (the generous Perry Settlement proves that) but I have to think this was more his partner whispering in his ear to acquiesce to this guy's odious demands so the starstruck lovers could move forward towards eventually tying the knot.

No one can ever accuse Schon of being niggardly; he seems to have no problem being gracious with his money.

To a man of Schon's stature, including royalties on past and future works, I'm sure it was money well spent, especially if it make Tareq shut up. Now he's finally whacked the mole for good.

I used to think Michaele and Tarq were in it together to bleed Neal. Now I'm not convinced.

How about Renig? Have you heard of that one before? That's when someone enters into a relationship like a business contract and then breaks the contract over change of mind. We'll just have to wait and see how many renig this November.

Nobody knows anything for sure....well at least none of us. Neal simply chose to swat an annoying fly and move forward. So what if that took a few bucks? It was probably cheaper, in the grander picture, to just handle it this way and shut him up, so people can move forward. I'm sure the NDA keeps him out of both their's and Journey's lives. Good business move, even if it looks askew to outsiders. He now poses no risk to any Journey fortunes and will not be allowed to exploit Neal or 'dat blonde broad, whom will be cast off whenever Neal tires of her. :D

There was no hatchet buried. There simply was a check written.
And that's exactly what that lazy idiot TS wanted from the get-go...just a payoff.

I guess the real irony would be that if the check was enough to cover TS' legal bills.
(I hope it wasn't.)

Neal Schon’s $50 Million Lawsuit Comes To The End Of Its Journey

by VVN Music on August 22, 2012
http://www.noise11.com/news/neal-schons ... um=twitter

The $50 million lawsuit brought by Tareq Salahi against Neal Schon and his band Journey has been dropped as part of the divorce agreement between Tareq and now ex-wife Michele Salahi.

The lawsuit, which was brought by Salahi after his wife began an affair with Schon, charged unfair and devious business practices against Schon and two entertainment companies, saying that they schemed to break up his marriage and engaged in “outrageous and intolerable conduct” to promote their business interests. The suit had already been dismissed by a circuit court in Warren County as being “deficient.”

“Virginia Circuit Judge Dennis Hupp twice dismissed Tareq’s lawsuits against Mr. Schon, Michaele Salahi and Journey as being deficient in claims, while at the same time allowing Michaele’s $850,000 defamation suit against Tareq to move forward. Notwithstanding the foregoing, a resolution was reached on all matters by all parties,” said Bruce Blanchard, the attorney who represented Schon and Journey.

As reported by the Northern Virginia Daily News, “After more than an hour of quarreling between attorneys from all sides, Judge Dennis L. Hupp granted a final divorce decree to Tareq and Michaele Salahi and entered a dismissal order for the $50 million personal injury lawsuit that Tareq Salahi had filed against Journey, Schon and Nomata, an entertainment company.”

Neal Schon said “I was never concerned about the $50 million lawsuit as I knew it was always about their divorce. It’s over. I win, she’s with me. I wish Tareq the best with his candidacy.”

Well basically in most cases, his attorney got 45% of it right off the top. He then has to pay taxes on his 55% share of it and do so within three months of receiving it, or, the IRS will hammer his titties with an additional penalty/fine. So he can't put the money in the bank or short term investment and make any interest off the amount that he owes to the IRS, before he pays it to the IRS by April 15th, 2013. All in all, he'll be lucky taking home 20 million of it. Still enough for him to get another girlfriend with though. Washed up strippers, escorts and models are probably soliticing him as we speak.

I am pretty sure he did not get the 50mil. Why would Schon give him that after the lawsuit was thrown out twice. I am sure TS got much, much less than that. He should be extremely happy if he got a cool 1 million, but I would be surprised if it was even that much.

Not sure but it seems everyone is saying it's a done deal and it was settled for 55Mil. Of course 55Mil is before the lawyer's cut and taxes.

Schon has $55million to throw away so causally?

$55M? ...even Neal isn't that stupid...

most "celebrity net worth" sites estimate Schons net wort at about $30M.....

Tareq likely got enough to shut up (likely a million - or less), as long as he agreed to some sort of NDA.

I have to agree. Seems like $55m was the asking price. Even if Neal did have the money, no attorney worth his/her salt is going to let their client pay that kind of cash if they don't have to (and in this case I think it's highly unlikely that he did). Typically, the final settlement numbers aren't disclosed, but my guess is it was settled for 1 or 2 million, plus "reasonable" attorney fees.

Ha!

What a load of shit. Ask anyone that has done contract work for Journey and then had to resort to holding up work in order to get paid for previous work past due by a matter of months/years.

People! Don't believe half of what you read on the internet. There is no fucking way TS got anywhere near what he was asking for and legally Schon was not obligated to pay anything. Use common sense. Whatever he was paid was STFU and GO AWAY money. I doubt it amounted anywhere close to 1m. Probably 25 to 50 grand. There is no good reason why any significant amount would have needed to be spent. It might have been a bit of enticement money to help get Salahi to move on with the divorce.

Neal: Tareq, don't even think about putting a picture of my junk out there for all to see.
TS: Why would you expect that I wouldn't? You sent it to me; deal with it!
Neal: How can I make sure that picture doesn't get out there?
TS: You can't!
Neal: What can I do to make sure that picture is not seen?
TS: Pay me like a motherfucker!
Neal: How much do you need?
TS: $50 Million
Neal: Ridiculous!
TS: I'm gonna sue you for it then

I can sort of see the leverage, if Neal really ever sent that pic, which I still do not believe. Neal probably would have had to top what the tabloids would have paid for it, again, if this really happened, which I doubt.

In no way do I think Neal only paid 50k. The guy dropped 350k on a Bentley for Michaele's birthday. If she's worth that much to him when she is still another man's wife, I'm thinking one million would be nothing to Schon if that means he gets to once again tell everyone "I won."

Remember, these guys (Perry Schon and Cain) are bringing in probably over five million dollars annually just on their licensing (the main one) and royalty income. When you factor in touring and everything else, a million dollars isn't shit.

Okay, assuming everyone is referencing this post by Tater, either I'm missing something or everyone else is. Please read the highlighted, and especially, the underlined section:

tater1977 wrote: Judge Dennis L. Hupp granted a final divorce decree to Tareq and Michaele Salahi and entered a dismissal order for the $50 million personal injury lawsuit that Tareq Salahi had filed against Journey, Schon and Nomata, an entertainment company.”

No where does it state Schon paid 50 million (let alone 55 million).

Schon's offered settlement came after this ruling. He didn't have to pay anything, he chose to do it. My guess is, it was to ensure Tareq wouldn't stall the divorce proceedings further. In other words, he threw Tareq a bone to placate him. My guess is Schon probably paid Tareq's legal fees and kicked him an extra 100k or so. But make no mistake, Schon won. The judge ruled in his favor each time and the last time he dismissed the suit with prejudice -- which means Tareq was legally barred from ever refiling again.
