I've hated the soundbytes I've heard. Paul Stanley's voice is shit (and shot) and these just aren't good songs. That's my opinion without having downloaded it from Pirate Bay - which my brother just called earlier to tell me it finally leaked there today. I've only heard the samples as of now.

I'll pick the CD up early tomorrow at a record store that always puts the Tuesday releases out on the Friday before.

Remember the Yulog CD review formula - the truth is always the polar opposite of what he says, lol. Literally, if he thinks something sucks, I generally love it. Here's another opinion of the new KISS CD:

SKID ROW guitarist Dave "Snake" Sabo took to Twitter on May 18th and weighed in on the album: "Heard the new KISS record yesterday & its very good! For real! More Revenge than Destroyer from what I heard."

I'll be hearing it in it's entirety for the first time in about 20 minutes. We'll see. I've never been less excited about a new Kiss CD though.

Listened to the whole thing. It's not a train wreck or a steaming pile of Mr. Hankey like I had thought. It's just kind of there. A couple of moments. Some people will probably like it. I'll spin it a few times and file it with the rest of the collection. Personally I liked Sonic Boom a lot better.

The writing on this one seems like they are going for a loose 70's vibe, not necessarily Kiss, but more Humble Pie, and various 70's influences.

There are some cringeworthy moments. Most of them lyrically and the worst being Tommy Thayer having to do another space related song so they can pretend he's Ace. (although my daughter seemed to like that one)

Production isn't great. They could have used an outside set of ears on this one.

Initial score 5/10

Usually when a new Kiss album comes out I score it high initially only to have my opinion of it drop as I live with the music. I don't see this dropping below the initial score, it could go up. Call me in a few weeks.

There's a lot to be said for their decision to be more inward looking, but the best the KISS albums have been where they have surveyed the landscape and made a concerted effort to be competitive; Alive, Destroyer,Love Gun, Rock N Roll Over, Creatures, Lick It Up, Revenge, Carnival Of Souls...

These three songs, however, are the tired efforts of 4 old men surfing the wave of brand recognition onto an increasingly deserted beach. Re-treading overly familiar riffs and lyrics so bad they could have been penned by anyone with English as their second, or indeed third language.

But what do they care? This stopped being about the music long ago. All they need to do nowadays is create an anodyne soundtrack for the corporate raider, weekend rock fans to read their $4,000 dollar KISS Monster books. Analysed in those narrow terms of course it's a success.

How many tunes are they going to pen with "Rock n Roll" in the lyric somewhere? Wait, let me count them, 55?

You need to let Stanley sing 90% of the tunes, PERIOD! If the others want to hum along, Learn to Harmonize motherfucker!

I'm ashamed that I ever called myself a fan. It's like the Hindenberg tragedy unfolding in slow motion.

Oh, the (almost) humanity...

How would you compare it to Sonic Boom?

I have it so I'm gonna crank it up and see if I agree with Ed. I'm open minded, but I generally agree with Ed's Kiss reviews/opinions

It's not out yet but I have it. "Long Way Down" is the song getting most of my attention. Sounds like Led Zep "Out On The Tiles" a little bit.

How would you compare it to Sonic Boom?

Way too early to say. I really liked a lot of Sonic Boom, especially "Yes I Know, Nobody's Perfect" which sounded like it could have been on Dressed To Kill. Monster didn't hit me with any obvious songs, but I think it might grow on me. As a fan I'm just happy they still put music out. So far it's a better listen if I take my lifelong Kiss expectations off and just treat it as a classic rock album.

Regardless, they need some outside writers for lyrics. The cliches they write about are silly.

I won't disagree with anyone who dislikes this release. I think there are some definite clunkers on it, but I may have dismissed it too soon based on the partial soundbytes. Still too early to judge.

I spun it again. Interestingly enough "Music From The Elder" is next alphabetically on the iTunes list.

Far more interested in what I am hearing now.

I agree with the album cover being lazy.

I'm hoping to pick it up on Tuesday at Best Buy because they're supposedly having a bonus track on it. If they don't have it I guess I'll be getting it off amazon or japanese order for the bonus track. I'm not spending crazy amounts of money to pick up the various releases.

Fan created cover. There are some really cool ones. The one you posted is what I used in iTunes. My understanding is that the band feels that they need the four makeup faces on the cover.

Will KISS get its first ever number one album.......

They've had a few in the top ten and most recently Sonic Boom hit the #2 spot.
