More fucking wingnuts running around with guns. Really sad story.

(CNN) -- At least two firefighters died when they were shot at the scene of a blaze in upstate New York on Monday, police said.

Two other firefighters were injured, police in Webster, New York, told reporters.

Authorities believe one or more shooters took aim at the firefighters after they left their vehicles, Police Chief Gerald Pickering said.

It was unclear whether there were any suspects.

"We have different individuals that were possible people with knowledge, but at this point I can't really comment," Monroe County Sheriff Patrick O'Flynn told reporters.

For hours, the gunfire stopped firefighters from working to extinguish the fire and forced police SWAT teams to evacuate homes in the area.

Firefighters first arrived before 6 a.m., said Rob Boutillier, Webster's fire marshal. By 9 a.m., flames had engulfed three houses and a vehicle, he said.

"It's still an active crime scene," Pickering said. "We have firefighters there at the location. It took a while to make it safe ... to put out the fires."

Doctors were treating the wounded firefighters Monday morning, said Teri D'Agostino, a spokeswoman for Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, New York. They were in guarded condition, she said.

One firefighter escaped from the scene in his own vehicle about an hour after he was shot, then was taken to the hospital by an ambulance from another location, Boutillier said. He was listed in satisfactory condition, Boutillier said.

Another wounded firefighter was conscious and speaking when he was removed from the scene, Boutillier said.

God damnit! How completely fucked up in the head do you have to be to run that scenario through your mind and decide it's a good idea, let alone put the plan in play?! This is the exact kind of evil and complete detachment from humanity that makes it harder and harder every day to believe there are more good people out there than there are bad. I choose to believe that there is sincere and genuine concern for our fellow man's well-being inside everyone of us and that all of us would lend a hand to anyone who needed emergency help whether it be an accident scene, violence victim, etc. And it's that belief and appreciation of how fleeting life can be that causes me to smile and say hello to perfect strangers I pass in the hall or on the street. If only we could develop the real technology that allows the ability to detect this kind of individual and prevent these kinds of senseless and horrific things from happening... God bless our first responders no matter where they live and work. They're heroes every day of every year!

It just isn't right that some whacko decides to take out people who work so dilligently to protect and save lives! What kind of a nutcase sits around and thinks of doing this kind of evil?

I understand you are both pissed and saddened, as am I, when these evil attacks happen. If there were no guns, the wingnut would have found some other means. We're looking for the solution in the wrong places. Let's get the wingnuts off out of our society, where they can't hurt anyone. There is the real solution, but guns or no guns we simply can't predict who the next sociopath, getting ready to strike, is.

I'm not about banning guns. That said, there are simply far too many fucked up lunatics who have access to them. The problem has never been law-abiding citizens who own a firearm. This guy was a convicted murderer, who bludgeoned his own grandmother to death with a hammer!

That can be said about suicide bombers too. Remove the access to guns, they will use the next best thing to take out multiple people. So far we've not seen too many do a suicide bombing in America. If the US bans guns...I bet we will start seeing it though.
