I’d really like to crack the Nashville Songwriter’s Hall Of Fame, because I live there now, and they’ve sort of been really standoffish about working… I’ve been trying to get in that crowd and get with Keith Urban and sit down and be able to write or produce something. That’s my next thing.
The last one didn’t go so well. Neal put this rock concept to me and I went with him and it really didn’t sell. So I don’t know, we’ll probably do another one at some point when we get our heads in the right place. I’d like to go back and do a classic Journey album but I think we need to stick to what we’re known for and that’s what people want. But it’s hard, it’s very difficult when you have this catalogue that we have of 35 classic songs… who’s going to buy it [laughs], I just don’t know. It’s tough to break in. Once you can get in on a movie deal or something then… we’d love to try and get a shot at a movie and play and write in that context. That would be great but it seems like all the young bands get those gigs. It’s going to take a special scenario. Again, my studio is available and it’s… I think everybody will have a great time if we have the right material to make a really killer Journey album. I was really proud of Eclipse but, like I said, I don’t think it translated, people didn’t get it. It was a departure from what we had done before and I let Neal drive the bus so… he drove it, and it didn’t sell, so… we have to do it together – it has to be the way we used to do in the old days.

Wait until Neal reads that. Mr. "This album still has legs."
I think another person who will sit back and say "I told you so" is Kevin Shirley.

Allowed to run unrestrained we get the 64th note shredding gibberish solo crap...

I have to say an exception to that may be TBF where Neal brought in a lot of the same sound that he had used in BTT. I thought it worked out well.

100%: So Journey has had quite a resurgence in the last five or so years, once you got Arnel Pineda in the band in 2007, and of course Don’t Stop Believin’ is the top selling song on iTunes ever, yet the interesting thing was it didn’t even top the US top 40 when it was first released in ’81. So what do you credit about being so special about the song?

Who really didn't get it was Journey's new fan base. They had just gotten on board with Revelation and Journey all of a sudden made a big right turn on them. From 800,000 records sold to 80,000. A 90% drop. People just didn't all of a sudden forget about Journey. Eclipse just wasn't what they expected, especially the new fans who were just getting their feet wet with the band's back catalog.
The band sold 770,000 records in 2011 so the demand for product was there. The catch though was that 680,000 of those sales were from the Perry era. The fans have spoken and it seems that Jon in his heart of hearts expected it. The question now is if Neal got the message?

I still think that Revelation had a hand in Eclipse's poor sales. Had Revelation been a great or even a good album it would've been great for the band. Unfortunetly Revelation was a boring paint by the numbers Journey album. They sold 800k units of an album that was average at best. Now if you're a casual fan of a band and you purchased Revelation and got an average album and a bunch of re-recorded songs are you going to go out and spend full price for the new album? I know if I'm a casual fan of a band and I picked up their most recent album and thought the album wasn't all that good I'm not picking up their next album.

"Revelation" only sold because of the hits and the timely DSB resurgence. If it had been a stand-alone new album like Arrival or Red 13 or Generations, it would have been a dud. Let's get real.

Wouldn't you be more useful in the Pee-Wee Herman forum?
