Well, if you want to talk snow my friend.... I moved to Arizona from Winter Park, CO, Elev. 9,100 ft. We had snow on the ground 8 mos. of the year. It was very common to get 30-36" in a single, overnight snowfall. The last year we lived there, I got in 136 ski days! One thing to keep in mind about the snowfall at that elevation is every inch of snow that falls accumulates and stays all season long. Sure, you get a fair amount of packing but it doesn't melt and go away until the snow-pack begins to melt in about mid-may. Winter Park only has on average 33 frost-free nights per year.... PER YEAR! That means the snow that was dropped in Sept. is still there at the base of the entire season's dnowfall until about July when all the snow if finally melted from the previous season. And that's when it's not nice to live there. It's called "mud season" and brother, let me tell ya..... YUCK! Everything you own becomes a dingy haze of brown as all that snow melt from the ski area's summit of 12,200' finds its way to lower ground - with the town right in its path! But you're right, that was a dusting. The ultra strange thing about it is that it actually stuck! The few days prior had been in the upper 70's with Monday hitting 80 deg. The low yesterday was only around 40-something so all-in-all not conducive to allowing the flakes to accumulate. It was rather pretty nonetheless.steveo777 wrote:JRNYMAN wrote:Various parts of the valley got snow today. The only thing that sucks is that you didn't get more. That is a dusting, not snow. Take that from a guy that lives where it does snow. The kids have fun and it's great to have for a little while. Back in 1968, when I was 9 years old, it snowed in Spokane for about 4 days straight. We accumulated about 2' on the ground in places, but when the snow plows pushed all the snow off to the side of the road we had 6 and 7 foot snow banks. It was fantastic! We made caves and insulated them with old newspapers. We would take a few 2x4's and a piece of plywood to hold the ceiling up from caving in. Soon, the tempurature dropped to 20 degrees below zero and we couldn't go to school or play outside for about 2 weeks. Now, that sucked! Can you imagine 4 kids from ages 4-9 driving their mommy crazy indoors for 2 weeks?![]()

I know, I know.... when compared to well.... anywhere actually, our dusting doesn't impress. But hey, this is the middle of the God-forsaken desert where it barely even rains let alone snow so it was kinda cool.
