This is fantastic!! :D

Here's the text of this article:

EXCLUSIVE: Santana Reforms Santana
by PAUL CASHMERE on FEBRUARY 22, 2013
Carlos Santana has confirmed he is putting the original Santana band together for his next album.

In an interview with Noise11.com Carlos said that he is putting the line-up from the first three albums back together for his next record. “So far we have invited the original members like Greg Rolie from the first three albums,” he told Noise11. “It will be like Santana IV because we stopped at ‘Santana III’”.

Journey’s Neal Schon broke the news of the reunion to Noise11 this week and Carlos has confirmed that he has just about everyone on board for the project. “As well as Neal we have the two Mikes, Mike Carabello and Michael Shrieve. I am pretty sure Greg’s going to do it. So that is pretty much everyone,” he says.

Bass player David Brown passed away in 2000.

According to Carlos, the album will have the African feel of the first three Santana records. “We have been checking out a lot of African music, African patterns,” he says. “Each artist has his own thing that he listens to. Led Zeppelin listened to Otis Rush. Cream listened to Freddie King and Albert King. We all had someone that we listened to. It was a beautiful common ground for Santana to play African music”.

The band will start work on the album after Carlos finishes a big year of touring that will see him head to Deniliquin in New South Wales next month for the Deni Blues and Roots Festival. He says to “expect it in 2014”.

The Deni Blues & Roots Festival will take place over the Easter long weekend. The festival also features Bonnie Raitt, Jimmy Cliff, Jason Mraz, Steve Miller Band, Zac Brown Band, Status Quo, Newton Faulkner and Tony Joe White.

Neal must be in heaven. First, he gets his way with Eclipse, then two solo albums and now this. I bet this even gets some type of Grammy nomination merely for being associated with Santana. It's gonna be hard for Schon to make a regular sounding Journey record after being allowed off the reservation with all of these projects.

Schon doing Santana and multiple solo projects.

Cain dipping more and more into the Nashville scene.

Arnel having a family halfway around the world and not being thrilled with life on the road, which is well documented.

Ross turning 64.

See 'em while you can.

Or don't. Digital media means never having to say goodbye. On a side note, the iTunes Valentine sale propels Journey's Greatest Hits back into the Top 50 (#46). Long live classic Journey.

Money on Journey going on "hiatus" after this year... cause Santana will tour on a new album..

With this being Journey's third consecutive year on the road, you may be right.

Cain can spend the down time helping his daughter's career and Pineda can do his little solo tour, singing Bon Jovi/Air Supply/OPM medleys and what not.

John really wants to write/produce for Nashville.. he said he wants to get in the Nashville Songwriters HOF. I've always thought he'd be 1st to bail. This makes it easy.

and while Neals on tour with Santana they can quietly call it quits or take a final stab at getting Perry for a final album/tour (I doubt that though).

Looks like we have Santana and Led Zep coming out for 2014. It will be epic and short, commanding crazy ticket prices.

This will be a break for Journey and I'd guess they tour again in 2015, marking the 40th anniversary, then bye bye. If Perry is ever going to set foot on stage again it will be in 2015, otherwise kiss any notion of it good bye forever. After that, who knows?

My predictions:
Schon hangs out with Santana til 2017
Rolie also hangs with Santana til 2017
Cain gets a Grammy in Nashville
Pineda gets picked up by another well known band
Deen and Pineda play together in whatever band picks up Pineda
Ross retires and starts selling tennis shoes that look like Bass Guitars

+1 I bet Valory would be a consideration also. I mean, who can resist the guy who squirts his audience members in the eye.

Nah, his playing is too one-dimensional.

Watch this reunion make a killer album, tour it, then get a grammy. That would be amazing.

Nobody. He's not going to be in this lineup. Carlos also may not realize this yet but he's got a whole different animal on his hands than the 16 year old apprentice he had back in the day. This venture will be interesting. Think they will try and out ego each other a couple times?

One thing we know, there ain't gonna be no five minute Neal Schon solos on this album. Carlos Santana isn't Kevin Shirley.

That you can put money on ...

In 2000 Santana tied the record with Michael Jackson (1983) for most Grammys won by a single performer - 8.

best record
best album
best pop duogroup with vocals
best pop collaboration with vocals
best pop instrumental performance
best rock duogroup with vocals
best rock instrumental performance
best rock album

Safe to bet there's some silverware on the way :)

They'll be having too good a time to give that much of a shit about egos. They'll both solo a lot. I just want to hear the frickin' music.

I know you were exagerating a bit, but have you ever listened to Santana's Caravanseri album? 5min+ instrumental/solos all over the place.

^^^^^^^That album is awesome. I totally want to hear new stuff in the vein of that and the first three albums. I love Santana but he needs to indulge/acknowledge the good ol' days again. Enough with the guest singers and ultracommercial pap.

Yes, he did, but Carlos didn't have to keep doing it album after album after album. He made a shitload of money just off Supernatural and Shaman.

correct... but its a safe bet that this next album won't be a return to guest singers, or pop.

Especially with Rolie in the mix. Greg's a purist.
