Winger Making of Pull and IV dvd...

Postby G.I.Jim » Sun Feb 24, 2013 2:03 am

Man, I've been on a serious Winger kick lately, and I just bought the Anthology cd from Itunes last night. Just now while on youtube, I found out they have this "making of" dvd which covers the making of Pull and Winger IV. I watched a bunch of the 40 plus minute footage, and it's AWESOME!!! I just bought it from Amazon, and can't WAIT to see the higher quality. Man, these guys are some of the most talented musicians on the planet. Check it out...

Funny you should mention Winger!! I was a HUGE fan back in the day. Can still remember listening to their debut album (uhm, cassette) in my mom's car while she was in the grocery store.

I have also been on a little kick of my own....

I was a Winger fan for about a New York minute. Then their sophomore release came out. Blah.

Did the title "PULL" signify the pulling of the plug on their career?

Unfortunately, I have to say yes... it pretty much did. They've released several other albums since (and have had some KILLER songs), but their sales plummeted right at the time frame. That's the same time the grunge scene came and fucked everything up! Listen to these songs and tell me they don't sound good...

Do you have "Anthology"? Best $15.99 I ever spent. 36 demo songs from their first three albums, plus some gems I've never heard. :D

Nope. I buy albums when I can unless they want $30 or some shit like that for an import. Thanks though.

Lol...you can't d/l them...just listen. Even has ads like the radio. The artists get some royalties with every song played, so it's all good.

Oh, my bad! Never used it, and I thought you meant download it. I have downloaded a few songs from people in the past, but that's just because they had an early copy and the suspense was killing me! I did go and buy each of them though when they were released. I don't want to see any artists getting screwed out of money. Well... most of them.

That's the way I am with a lot of things. Clockwork Angels comes to mind. I got that early from someone, but I had already bought the prerelease. Record, CD, and digital copy. I just HAD to hear it. lol

Saw this on Andrew's facebook page and had to share. This really is what every new hairband post 1985 sounded like. Any surprise that the genre fell off a cliff?

You're welcome. The coolest thing to me on it are the unreleased demos. There are a few on there and they're all fantastic! Plus it's cool to see how the songs changed from conception to the finished studio versions. They all sound amazing. Hope you like it.

Loved those 'Making Of' videos... took a few minutes to get used to since much (from my recollection) seemed to be shot from a cam mounted on a PC monitor, but it was great and very personal. I guess they just filmed themselves making the record. Several years ago I also bought some Winger behind the scenes vids on VHS... one each for the first and second albums. Fun stuff!

BTW, I have 'Anthology', and haven't listened to it all the way through, but you're right... it's a real treasure. I think it's the first release I've ever seen from any of my favorite bands that contains demos for just about EVERY song they put out on every album.

That has been my favorite song off 'Pull' since it was released. Had the lucky chance to see them play it live in my hometown during that tour. Was standing about 2 feet from the stage. I think Kip may have done another version of it on one of his acoustic releases, but my memory is sketchy.
