Rather than starting 2 separate threads for these topics, I thought it made more sense to combine them. First, there's the sales stats which are pretty impressive.

Unfortunately, there's a dark, seedy side to cookie sales. Every year. there are stories in the news about local troops having their money stolen by either a corrupt troop leader or someone associated with her - or - some jerkoff doing a snatch & grab at the local grocery store where a troop has setup shop hoping to bolster their troop's sales revenues. This particular one involved a mother and daughter team:

And this year was no different in that respect. A Google search resulted in many incidents like these nationwide.

This year, however, there was a heist that breaks the record for stolen cookies/cookie money.
In Spartanburg, SC, a thief robbed a storage facility which was acting as the distribution center for troops in several counties. Police have arrested a man they say is responsible for stealing 5,000 boxes or $19,000 worth of cookies. As you might guess, it was an inside job. The man worked at the facility as a truck driver.
Initial story of robbery here:

Updated story including arrest of suspect:

If you're so desperate that you need to steal the little bit of cash a troop may have in their cashbox outside the grocery store, then you should be seeking assistance from the state or local shelters. Don't steal $$ from Girl Scouts....
