Here's one with David Pack of Ambrosia fame. 2004 I think.

I never understood the point of having Steve Perry doing a background vocal in this manner. If you're just going to bury him amongst a host of other voices, why bother?

Send My Baby Home LaidLaw with Steve Perry

http://youtu.be/8s-LV1CS4oY

On (Nikki Sixx) label ...Laidlaw ..their album was released on October 26 (1999)..

Buzzy James left a couple comments about how SP came to sing on this..

Buzzy James 1 week ago

Hello, I'm Buzzy from the original Laidlaw lineup, I wrote this song with Joey Pantera. We were recording it in LA, Sixx was producing it and I guess Sixx called Steve cause he just popped in, they are friends. Right when he walked in this song was being played played back loud goes, man, I'd like to do some shit like this, getting tired of all my ballad shit.

Buzzy James 1 week ago

Sixx says, you wanna sing some on it? He says yeah, next thing we know we are all in a vocal booth with him working out harmonies. In the end it was just Steve doubling his parts. Took all day, he was a really nice guy.

I'm thinking that we need a few more adjectives when describing Mister Perry. It's pretty definite that he is a nice guy; so nice that you'd think he'd invented the word. Maybe "nice" isn't really the word you want to use. Conversant. Humble. Articulate. Humorous. Intelligent. Keen. Sharp. Clever. Thoughtful. Engaging.
Down to earth. Insightful. Cause the word "nice" is beginning to sound empty and false. It's almost sounding unbelievable.

Steve Perry vocals on Jason Becker's Primal

Dan commented on SP's part ...

Hi Folks. This is Dan, and I coproduced, played keyboards, and mixed this song. The lead vocals are done by a fellow named Raz Kennedy (he was one the members of Bobby McFerrin's early vocal groups). Steve Perry *does* sing the tribal sounding chant in the middle. It is a short section actually recorded and then played backwards. But that's the only place he appears on this song.

I should also clarify that the chanting is also at the beginning of the song. Two short sections. It's the high melodic parts in the choruses that are Raz.

I know he sang some backing vocals for Sammy Hagar, the Danger Zone album, I think. Believe Neil was on that one, too. Cain was on another Hagar album, too.

Ahhh, so many thanks. This is a great interview.

I've heard so many times where black people speak about being "ashy". And until I saw the picture on that video, I didn't know what they meant. Reference the black guy's elbow. I guess that's what they have been referring to.
