Should Journey try for a Vegas residency?

Postby Don » Wed Apr 03, 2013 4:40 pm

I know Santana has done it.
Def Leppard is doing one now. 20 song setlist, 37 different songs over three shows. That's pretty awesome.

Leppard got approached to do it...

Not sure that would happen to Journey.

The question is - Would Vegas have them?

I doubt it, not without Perry. Besides, their set lists are too staid.

Joe sounds a little too good to be honest.

Thinking about that question and then picturing that scenario.... Is it just me or does becoming a nightly Vegas show automatically equate to the last hurrah for an act - any act? Trying to think of an act that abandoned touring and became a Vegas headliner for an extended period of time then went back to touring and either it's been a very long day and I can't think straight or there aren't any. I'm talking about a long-term contract of 2 years or more. What Lep's doing is fairly cool and I'd be very surprised if nearly every show wasn't sold out. But then again it's Def Leppard who still employs the same members who made them who the are. I don't think Journey could do the same.

Wayne Newton is toast again, so there is an opening. Something mechanical might be just the proper replacement. You know, a band that plays the same songs every night and sounds almost like Steve Perry........if you close your eyes.

You might even get "comped" for it, if you put enough quarters in the machines and treat the cocktail waitresses right, especially if the floor manager catches your eye, while you are trying to get a comp'd Journey show while trying to bed said cocktail waitress, while pretending to your wife it's all just "part of the show".

Leppard's been approached and are already taking this show to France..

There's a world of difference between Journey's ability to draw and Leppard...

Good idea for when its time to finally put this band to rest.

And also probably the ONLY possible scenario that could lead to the band finishing in a proper way:
Approach Perry, suggest an "every-other-night" residency in Vegas for about two-three weeks.
Go out in style, and then park the Journey brand in the garage for good.
Welcome to Terminus... You hungry?

Been suggesting this for a couple of years. An amalgamation of members from different playing their band's songs would work as well. That would allow more flexibility, more dates and a longer running show.

Doubt you'll see Perry as part of it as I'd be shocked if he could sing the catalog one time, let alone multiple times a week.
