No sympathy for that person in particular, if you're here illegally then you have no right to bitch about your lack of employment. You have my sympathy though, I have been in a similar situation before so I understand your frustration. Keep your chin up and it will turn a around before long, it did for me.

Have you tested for any Federal jobs? State? County? City? I guarantee that you'll find something there. You would be surprised how many people don't apply because they think they'll never get hired because they're not a minority, they don't have a degree, etc, etc. Not the case at all. If you can speak clearly and present a good appearance, you'll be hired. The test is the hardest part. While they say 70% qualifies you, it's really 90% but the exams are pretty easy so if you have any type of decent experience or education you'll score high. Even the lowest position pays better than most and the benefits are great. The hardest part is waiting to be called but if you never apply, you'll never have a chance anyway. It took seven months for me but you don't wait around for it. You keep doing what you are doing until you get the call. I completely forget about it until they called me on a Thursday, had me come in a Friday. and a week later called me in for processing. Even the janitor makes $2,500 a month to start and I am assuming you are more skilled than that.

Didn't you prep for the tests or anything? Fail = below 70%, Were you testing for positions that you would not have been qualified for to begin with? You can always test again.

No, I tested for positions I was more than qualified for. I prepped before testing, but psyched myself over the excel portion of the test. I worried that they wanted advanced excel skills, so I prepped myself for that. Then it turned out the excel portion was just the basics that I normally would have sailed through. But between my anxiety and messing up one crucial section of the excel exercise that was related to the next section, I obliterated my chances. By the time I figured out my mistake, it was too late. As a general rule, I don't test well, especially under timed conditions.

I remember applying for a job that had had the requirement stating "must be proficient in excel." The first question from the guy when I walked in was if I knew how to add a column. I was thinking this has to be a joke, then he said show him.
For a second, I did what you did; I went blank because my brain was expecting some type of difficult task. Then I took a breath clapped my hands together one time and made the column.
He offered me the job right then and there.
I was the fifth person he had interviewed and the first one who actually did it. Maybe, some of them froze up like I did but couldn't recover. You can't bullshit with things like that, that's for sure.
