Recent news on Perry sad revelation of a broken heart

You know, I want new music as much as the next guy or lady, but in this case, telling someone to put up or shut after they basically rung their heart out for the whole world to see, no, not going to do it.

You are entitled to your opinion, but isn't there some 3-hour tour you should be getting on?

SP seems to always have an emotional story to tell. Fine. Great. Understood...as well as we can.

But ya know, I'm sure many are waiting for the follow-up story/interview - whenever- about how this has caused him to be more reclusive, and (once again) there will be no more new music. Or better yet, so many things were 'put on hold' while he grieves. I guess, this fall, for the Cmas buying season, he'll toss the public some other bone too.

The man is full of drama. We get it. Drama, after drama, after emotional state of currency or latency, more drama, etc. Yeah, it's nice to tell this all to the fans, but the fans want new music...geez, any music. And I imagine that all the fans, while sympathetic, are just tired of the perception that there's yet another reason why he can't do the 'music thing' any more.

Uhm, with all due respect, it's past getting old. Put up, or shut up.

I really don't see anything wrong with us analyzing it. With the exception of a few here, no one knows the guy personally. That's what unofficial, nonsanctioned, forums are for. I could see it being taboo at an official Steve Perry fan site but really, no one has said anything negative about the situation. Lord knows we've done it with the other members of the band.

Personally, I'm pretty happy with what I got from him from 1978 to 1986. That goes for the band too. If they folded shop 20 years ago, it wouldn't have bothered me. Perry and them were the soundtrack of my adolescence and the advent of digital media means they'll never disappear.

I really have a lot of respect for Steve. What this guy did was one of the most selfless things a person could do. He is one of the few people that knows what real love is, 100% selfless. He didn't care how much he was going to have to go through, but totally focused on her.

I am thankful for what Steve has given the world musically and I don't expect anything from him. I have no idea whats going on in his life and what his struggles are. Through this story we got a little glimpse of what he has been going through currently. That to me is pretty incredible.

I also have thought Steve has clinical depression, however I don't see it as a weakness or a character flaw quite the opposite in fact. Highly sensitive artistically creative and compassionate people are more likely to have depression. It takes a very strong person to be able to deal with and live with depression all the qualities Steve Perry seems to have and it is likely where the emotionality of his music and voice come from which can be a felt experience for the listener.

I agree with Maj on all this. As fans only, of course, we can't begin to know the real SP... only speculation, as Steve himself have opened bits of his life to us over the years. It is those sensitivity and compassionate traits of his (relating to myself so well) that was(is) so entralling in the first place. And, yes, it shows in all his music.

I don't believe anyone is holding his/her breath, as we all have our own lives to lead...but, I too, hope for new music, as Steve processes this latest sadness and works on the next phrase of his life.

Really? That's interesting. Even though he has been out of the spotlight for sometime now, he still has alot of interest. I see the story has been picked up by several news outlets.

Would be really classy if Journey send their condolences to Perry on their website.

If you look at Google trends, when Glee started the DSB Tsunami, Perry began trending just above the Journey spikes for the next year or so.
During the song's meteoric rise in 2010, SP made himself available for interviews and even met the cast for Glee. As Journey wasn't touring or doing anything that year Steve became, by default the de facto representative of the band during that high time.

It does make you wonder; if Journey had included a live version DSB on the domestic release of Eclipse like they did in Japan, would that have helped their initial sales?

This is so sad. Yep, hearbreak was more inevitable than not. But one never knows, even when two people are healthy, that a relationship won't end up in some sort of heartbreak. What a beautiful young lady, much too young. It sounds like these two people gave each other much happiness, joy and love for the short time they shared. My heart is heavy just having read it ...living it, wow!!

Annpea...I was referring to something Don said earlier, I removed all my opinions...or as many as I thought might upset someone. I was not trying to control anyone else. Don was saying in an earlier post that this was not the place to fight. I agreed. I am sorry if I offended anyone. Sorry if I came across as bossy. I thought what Steve done was sweet, and I was a bit defensive of him.
