Ever Since The World Began, Jackie Don't Go

Postby FalconONE » Sat Jun 15, 2013 7:18 am

"Ever Since The World" is one of the most popular ballad sang in karaokes and cover bands in the Philipines, thanks to Arnel Pineda, lead singer of Journey who performed it live some years ago in a cover band.

It's amazing how popular this song is now world famous..
Since 1985, Survivor has to put "Search Is Over" on each setlist...

I wouldn't be bad if they put "Search Is Over" a rest for a couple of shows or for the rest of the 2013 tour and put instead Jamo & Dave on Lead on "Ever Since The World Began" since they both recorded it in studio (Dave in the EOTT album and Jamo on a single soundtrack song for the Lockup movie).

The last time I heard they performed it live was with dave on vocals in Huntington, IL 1995... Search Is Over wasn't performed that night... and it was a fantastic setlist.

Jackie Don't Go is, in my opinion, the #2 spot of the most requested song "never" played live (as far as I know...maybe they did performed it back in 1983..)

Years after years, fans requested that song, and it's amazing that the band never played it since...
Perhaps it's a song that frankie never liked, who knows...

In each fan setlists, songs like "Ever Since The World Began", "Fire Makes Steel", "Kid Dynamite", "Jackie Don't Go", "Runway Lights", "The One That Really Matters", "Children Of The Nights", "American Heartbeat", are songs that they maybe plead a couple of times in pre-1984, but never pleayd again, but still in the top spots of the fans...

I understand the fact that Survivor performs a current setlist of 10-15 songs and that they need to put a least the most famous songs (EOTT, High On You, Search, I Can't Hold Back...) but the remaining 2-3 spaces should be filled with the fans requests just like the Rolling Stones are doin' right now...

Lucky we are finnaly the "band" accepted to perform Burning Heart completely instead of the intro as we were used to be with Jamo from 2000-2006.
They performed only the intro the on the 1-4 shows of the current tour but they changed their mind after strong requested I guess..

I'll never understand the deal with "Jackie Don't Go"...i have heard fans at shows scream for it...I have a radio interview from the late 90's where Frankie and Dave take a request in studio..the host ask for "Jackie Don't Go", but Frankie pretty much shoots it down and they play Rebel Girl acoustic...

They did play Jackie Don't Go on Solid Gold in the 80's....

Here's the problem....who is going to sing it? Without some significant downtuning, neither singer can even get close to those notes. Jamison was straining a LOT even on the studio version in '85ish. He barely even had the range then and both have lost a lot. Dave has lost even more. As low as you are going to have to run the key for the singer(s) to hit the chorus, I'm not even sure how recognizable the song will be.

As much as I love the song JDG, I don't consider it a good "live" song. Rebel girl has the same vibe and works better live, at least IMO. Is great to see Dave singing this now with the band.
Search is over? Ask me and I'll tell you that I would just skip that one...never could stand it.
My big clue is why leaving out Burnin Bridges? Ranks among their top 10 songs IMO

The problem is that they have precious few "hits" that someone other than the diehard fans will recognize. 2 Rocky songs, a couple from Vital Signs and Is This Love....and that's about it. My guess is that is part of the reason Rockin' into the Night is making the setlist, even though technically it isn't recognized as a Survivor song. It is something that people recognize. Keeping the crowd entertained is a difficult proposition.

For what it's worth, I was never the biggest fan of The Search is Over either. Probably the weakest of all the ballads--and they had some really good ones. That said, the Dave '93 live version is the best I've heard the song.

Falcon, let me first start this by saying I have never been a fan of The Search Is Over. That being said this song still needs to be included in every setlist. There just are not many loyalists like you out there that see the band every time they come to town (and quite frankly) Survivor is not a regular act in my town.

Fans complain about all bands playing the same songs - Greatest Hits Live. In my opinion there are like 5 songs that have to be in every setlist (High On You, I Can't Hold Back, Burning Heart, Eye Of The Tiger, and Search is Over). After that there should be great flexiblity. Most at a Survivor concert don't even know songs like Take You On A Saturday or Poor Man's Son. Those are the songs that can be removed from the regular setlist, but Search is Over is a must. In my case, it makes a good bathroom break song.....so I don't mind.

I have seen them do Burning Bridges. Personally I think they have catchier rockin songs. Not a fan of that song.

ESTWB is much better than TSIO. Jackie Don't Go is fine too, however, I would pick Popular Girl over it.

ugh. That would be my least favorite song in the entire Survivor catalog. Bubblegum pop at its absolute worst.

I wonder about this too. Also, How Much Love. Both were big hits.

Of course there are other songs I would like to see, but I am talking about songs that should not be debated.

Both songs are great, Ever since the world began may be the best ballad of their catalog (personally "I never Stopped loving you" is on the same level)

Glad you commented.

I don't find it any much different than She's A Star as a rock tune. The premise is similar. Regardless isn't it interesting, that both JDG and Popular Girl intros are similar?

Also and yes perhaps im in the minority as a pick to play on stage, but I feel the tune has a complete cohesive sonic to it.No "downtime". Hooks a plenty and guitar scratch to boot.

When was the last time you played it Mikele? I ask this because my impression of PG was EXACTLY the same as your opinion back in the day. I couldn't stand it and skipped it wondering why it kept in Vital Signs...surely there were better stuff to choose from. MJ

Nothing Can Shake Me has been done a lot over the Dave years. Santa Ana Winds is an interesting choice however--especially with Dave back. You can let Frankie have his extended guitar solo by simply extending the jamming a bit on the song. Might just work...
