Top 20 Worst Bands of All Time

Postby ebake02 » Wed Jun 19, 2013 10:52 am

This list is certainly interesting. Funny too, especially #1.

1. Dave Matthews Band
"Once upon a time/When the world was just a pancake/Fears would arise/That if you went too far you'd fall/But with the passage of time/It all became more of a ball." -Some Dave Matthews lyrics

You want a real American Horror story? Sit in the back of an SUV with off-key sorority house members singing along to Dave Matthews Band. "Dave" is a jam act with no jams. They make Perrier seem vibrant and ethnic. Dave Matthews croons like Kermit with a hangover, for a presumed intended audience of trustafarians and frat bros bonding via hacky sack and horseshoes. Them, and folks whose favorite book is The Da Vinci Code and favorite TV show is Two and a Half Men. They are permanently beige, the sonic instantiation of Ambercrombie & Fitch cargo shorts, South Carolina Gamecocks hats, and flip-flops flailing. -Jeff Weiss

I don't know a thing about the Dave Mathews Band, but if they were the worst band of all time, they wouldn't be at the top of the list that Gunbot posted. The Eagles? I've always rated the Eagles as one of the best bands ever. I'm not that in tune with their countrified sound sometimes, but there is no denying the talent in that band. They listed Rush and Foreigner too. The guy's musical taste is in his sphincter.

While I don't agree with a sizable portion of that list, I do agree with DMB being at #1. I have tried on several occasions to listen to their music and I can't even make it through an entire song. Every song sounds pretty much the same and their lyrics are complete nonsense. Case in point:

Satellite in my eyes
Like a diamond in the sky
How I wonder
Satellite strung from the moon
And the world your balloon
Peeping tom for the mother station
Winter's cold spring erases
And the calm away by the storm is chasing
Everything good needs replacing
Look up, look down all around, hey satellite

They were actually discussed in the list, in Foreigners listing.

I guess I just don't get the whole DMB culture. He definitely has a draw and has no problem selling out the venues he plays. He does have a few musicians that are outstanding in their respective fields like his drummer and his violinist... both incredible musicians and performers. The only song I can say I actually like is the live version of Ants Marching, more specifically the video which was shot at The Gorge. Some excellent jamming by his band on this one. Aside from that, I'm pretty much permanently beige on my opinion of him.

I would take off Rush, The Eagles and Foreigner and replace them with Fall Out Boy, Jethro Tull and Sum 41.

Agreed. If you need a sample list to get started on bands to add to the list, go to Billboard and just start reading the list of bands on the "Top 40" chart or Hip Hop, Rap, R&B, etc. You'll have more than enough to get you staarted.

Agreed. When on ships a friend's band played me a live DVD , just couldn't believe it. An arena packed with people going nuts for a band that has no songs. Have listened again since but not lately and don't plan to. Also, their sax player died but they still played anyway . 99.9 percent of bands cancel a few gigs out of respect. Just like airshow that cancelled the rest of today's show after the wing walker crash, and the race team that withdrew their other car today after one of the drivers was killed at Le Mans. It's standard protocol, but not for the DMb.

Dave Matthews Band always plays two sold-out nights in a row every year at the venue just up the road from my house. It just so happens that they are here again and playing their 2nd show tonight. People come from all over and there are hundreds of people who camp out in the area (homeowners with big yards make booku bucks renting space to campers) and attend both shows. Personally, like you guys, I find their music rather annoying. They have like a handful of songs of their entire catalogue that I like and I've listened to every album.
