"I just crash landed at SFO. Tail ripped off. Most everyone seems fine. I'm ok. Surreal..."
David Eun

A Boeing 777 operated by Asiana Airlines crash-landed at San Francisco International Airport (SFO). Immediately, dozens of tweets began flowing with news and firsthand accounts from the airport — including Samsung executive David Eun, who says he was aboard the downed plane, calling the experience "surreal" and reporting that "most everyone seems fine." Several pictures of the 777 show the vertical stabilizer completely missing, emergency slides deployed, and black smoke billowing above.
A witness to the crash, Anthony Castorani, told CNN that when the aircraft touched down on the runway there was a large fireball and the plane "began cartwheeling" before one of its wings broke off.
The cause of the accident is unknown and will likely take some time to investigate, but it's notable that the 777's only other major failure — a downed British Airways aircraft at London Heathrow — crashed under similar circumstances on final approach, resulting from a clogged fuel filter that has since been redesigned and retrofitted on existing aircraft using Rolls Royce's Trent 800 series engines. It's not immediately clear what type of engine Asiana is using on its 777 fleet.

No offense to Don, But you can see the inaccuracies of new stations trying to get it first. The plane did not cartwheel and both wings are still intact. Only the tail section broke off and one engine. The other engine separated and caused the fire on the plane.

I am glad that the majority of the passengers are uninjured.

I was not able to watch any news the day of the Sandy Hook shooting but have seen the aftermath and conspiracies that have come out of that horrific event can all be traced back to the media reporting inaccuracies at the beginning of that event.

Yeah, the guy actually on the plane pretty much said all that needed to be said. Plane crash landed, tail ripped off.

Two dead so far and dozens injured.

Looks like he short landed the runway, probably tried to pull back up for a go around but was to late.
Had to be terrifying for the passengers. This was bad, but could have been much worse.

I read somewhere that the plane was experiencing engine trouble. I only saw it once and haven't seen it again. So I'm anxious to see if that turns out to be why they came up short of the runway. I didn't know SFO was right on the water like that. Just like LaGuardia.

A long distance video of the incident.

It has been reported that the pilot in command was in training and that he had never flown in to SFO.

It was also reported that one of the two teenaged girls killed was run over by an emergency responder vehicle. :(

Yeah that video looks like it was shot near or around where the Elephant Bar is located, as we are always in that area every weekend. I happened to be on Southbound 101 maybe ten minutes away from the airport when this occured. As I was nearing the airport roughly ten minutes after it happened, cops were blocking off all the exits with their car's and flares. I figured there was a bomb threat or even a hijacking in progress. Northbound 101 was jammed because everyone seemed to want to take the exit that is taken when you want to get to the Elephant Bar. Soon after I got word of the crash and realized all those idiots who were lined up for at least a mile for that next exit which is after the airport were just wanting to go over and look at the tragedy. Staying on the freeway was a breeze, no traffic or anything. It was all those aholes lining up for miles for that exit that fucked everything up for the northbound traffic.

The pilot had about 40 hours of flying a 777 and apparently had never landed one before. He got himself almost 300 guinea pigs. Unacceptable!!!

Amazing that so many survived...no details on how extensive the collective injuries are...heard alot of people grabbed their personal belongings before getting off....it's like leave your shit behind folks...but everyone was certainly in shock. Tragic on the report of the girl that was run over.

I remember the first time flying into SFO and thinking as we what appeared to be skimming the white caps of the bay..."I hope the pilot knows what he is doing." Tightens the ol sphincter when all you see are clouds, fog and the water just feet below.

What they are saying is he had over 10,000 hours flying other large jets but only around 40 flying this specific plane. The last I read, they said that he's landed the triple 7 before but never before at SFO. He wasn't alone in the cockpit, there were a few other pilots who were assisting. They are also talking about a piece of equipment that SFO had taken off line for maintenence that is used to help guide pilots in. They are looking to see if this contributed to the crash.

And yes, very very lucky that only two were killed. They are saying one may have survived the crash but a fire truck ran her over as they were driving up to the plane.

I've been in some pretty scary situations before. Most recent scary was landing in Narita in rain, wind and fog. Looking at the screen in front of me, we were only a few hundred feet from the ground, nothing but clouds and rain out the windows, no sign of ground, but I knew it was there, and the plane was rolling from all the wind. The spoilers on the top of the wings were going apeshit. That's scary.

Got to wonder how long it took them to realize the names were a prank.

Yeah, watching them post it up and read the names off gave me a good laugh. These newscasters must be stupid cause just looking at those names would have given it away for me.

When you think you've heard just about everything, something new comes along that just blows your mind. If this don't beat all!
