Derek Sherinian joins Joe Bonamassa's band

Nicknamed by Alice Cooper as “The Caligula of the Keyboards,” Derek Sherinian, former Black Country Communion keyboardist, has joined Joe Bonamassa’s solo band as a full-time member. Sherinian toured South America with Bonamassa in August 2013, and will also join Bonamassa on his upcoming September Europe/US tour. Says Bonamassa – “Derek is a great keyboard player and we’re ecstatic to welcome him as the latest member of the band.”

No stranger to the music world, Sherinian has toured and recorded with Alice Cooper, Billy Idol, Yngwie Malmsteen, Kiss, and Black Label Society. A former member of Dream Theater (1994–1999), Sherinian founded Planet X and co-founded Black Country Communion. In January 2012, Sherinian toured Europe and Asia with the instrumental supergroup “PSMS” featuring Mike Portnoy, Billy Sheehan, and Tony MacAlpine.

Loved his work with BCC. Should be a good fit. I liked Rick and Arlan's work too but it's good to change things up now an then.

Joe's not due in the studio until this winter, so it's possible. But Kevin Shirley often likes to bring in studio musicians to mix things up.

It seems like Sherinian has been in just about every band. Great player who's just never stuck with one major gig.
