I can't never seem to get past halftime in the last preseason game.Cowboys lost, and I don't care, but some Houston "fans" are acting like they won the Super Bowl. It's pretty pathetic.

It amazes.....truly amazes me that some people who watch football lack the knowledge of what pre-season football is all about. They actually think that the scoreboard means something and that their team is going to rely on practice squad players that won't even dress come the regular season. My Facebook is full of fools who expect to hoist the Lombardi in August. Truly pathetic and lack of understanding, haha.

I've yelled at a few people saying "THEY'RE FIGHTING FOR A ROSTER SPOT. THAT'S IT. Means NOTHING for our record.". we went 2-3 in the preseason, and I'm nowhere NEAR worried. Jekyll and Hyde. That's what preseason is.

The Steelers went 0-4 this preseason, the first time in Tomlin's tenure and the first time they went winless in the preseason since 2006 and I couldn't be more ecstatic for September 8th. I'm takin' my father and we'll be in the house!

There is literally a useless stat for EVERYTHING. "The Steelers are 6-5 when I wipe my ass from back to front and 21-2 when you wipe from front to back.."

Re: OFFICIAL 2013-2014 NFL Thread

Postby Jonny B » Sat Aug 31, 2013 11:41 pm

My predictions:

AFC EAST

New England Patriots

AFC EAST:
1. New England Patriots: 10-6
2. Miami Dolphins: 6-10
3. Buffalo Bills: 4-12
4. N.Y Jets: 1-15

Leave it to me to make the Bills the trendy pick, and curse them with injuries galore to the QB position. I'm backing out of that one and saving the trendy pick for next year. The Pats will likely win this division by default, but I'm worried about turnovers at the WR position. Even if Tebow did somehow become the starter due to injuries to Brady and Mallett, the teams below the Pats are so terrible that they'll make him look like a winner again.

AFC NORTH:
1. Baltimore Ravens: 10-6 (Win division on tiebreaker)
2. Cincinnati Bengals: 10-6
3. Cleveland Browns: 10-6
4. Pittsburgh Steelers: 5-11

Yes, the defending Super Bowl champs had a complete salary cap overhaul, but they did pick up some good pieces. It will be the toughest division in the AFC. Watch out for the Browns. Brandon Weeden looked excellent this preseason and they're looking like the most improved team. Steelers are gonna have a difficult year if they don't find a running game.

AFC SOUTH:
1. Houston Texans: 11-5
2. Indianapolis Colts: 10-6
3. Tennessee Titans: 4-12
4. Jacksonville Jaguars: 3-13

Yes, the Texans have improved steadily each year, but they almost coughed up the division last year and I feel like the same could happen this year. The division race between the Colts and Texans will be close. It's never gonna get old...saying the Colts will rely on Luck, year after year....

AFC WEST:
1. Kansas City Chiefs: 11-5 (Win division on Tiebreaker)
1. Denver Broncos: 11-5
3. San Diego Chargers: 5-11
4. Oakland Raiders: 4-12

This is my upset pick of the AFC. Several factors: Von Miller's 6 game Suspension, failure to resign Elvis Dumervil, and they made no effort to fix their vulnerability to the deep ball. Also, Peyton Manning in the last few seasons that he's started, has been slow coming out of the gate. They could very well start 2-4, and Manning will have to outscore the opposition. The Chiefs though, tons of Pro Bowlers in spite of having the worst NFL record last year. Now they have an adequate QB in Alex Smith that won't turn the ball over.

AFC SEEDING:

1. Houston Texans
2. Kansas City Chiefs
3. Baltimore Ravens
4. New England Patriots
5. Denver Broncos
6. Cincinnati Bengals

AFC CHAMPIONSHIP:
Denver Broncos defeat the Houston Texans

In spite of all the issues on defense, the Broncos find a way to spark a run to the Super Bowl. Texans take a baby step every year, which means they make the AFC title game before taking the fall.

NFC

NFC EAST:
1. Washington Redskins: 10-6
2. Philadelphia Eagles: 9-7
3. Dallas Cowboys: 8-8
4. N.Y. Giants: 8-8

I think Chip Kelly's hurry-up offense has merit, but I fear this will hurt the defense, as they won't have time to recover from each series. The Redskins are set at QB. If RGIII goes down again, Kirk Cousins is more than capable of leading the team. The Giants can't go year after year not playing to their skill level then kicking it in when their backs are against the wall. The Cowboys...I've done it every year, I say they've gotten over their turnovers, and they they turn the ball over. Not doing that again this year.

NFC NORTH:
1. Green Bay Packers 10-6
2. Chicago Bears: 6-10
3. Minnesota Vikings: 6-10
4. Detroit Lions: 4-12

I can't make heads or tails of this division. All I know is the Packers is the best of the bunch. Adrian Petersen can't carry the Vikings to another division title by himself, can he? Matthew Stafford has looked like a pathetic 3rd String QB without Megatron this preseason. The X Factor is Chicago. Will a new coach help get Jay Cutler over the hump or will they regress? Either way, The Packers will take it.

NFC SOUTH:
1. Atlanta Falcons: 9-7
2. New Orleans Saints: 8-8
3. Carolina Panthers: 8-8
4. Tampa Bay Bucs: 4-12

The Falcons weren't flashy with their wins, so I wonder if this is just an average team that happened to perform enough to win games? They 'should' win the division, but it will be much closer, as I expect improvements from Cam Newton and also to the Saints who got their coach back this year.

NFC WEST:
1. Seattle Seahawks: 13-3
2. San Francisco 49ers: 13-3
3. Arizona Cardinals: 6-10
4. St.Louis Rams: 5-11

So every year, I have some outrageous predictions, so here's one for this year: There will be a 13-3 wild card team! Yes, the Seahawks and 49ers will be that good. Each will go 5-1 in the division, splitting one against each other and sweeping the other teams. They will crush opposition with strong team defense, and gobs of offensive weapons powered by up-and-coming QBs Colin Kapraenick and Russell Wilson.

NFC SEEDING:

1. Seattle Seahawks
2. Washington Redskins
3. Green Bay Packers
4. Atlanta Falcons
5. San Francisco 49ers
6. Philadelphia Eagles

NFC CHAMPIONSHIP:
Seattle Seahawks defeat the Washington Redskins

It's gonna be a QB option-fest. In the end, Seahawks win on strong running game

SUPER BOWL XLVIII:
Seattle Seahawks defeat the Denver Broncos

Russell Wilson is no Rex Grossman....Peyton Manning will not get his second title on a silver platter.

Sam Bradford, Carson Palmer, Cam Newton, Jay Cutler, Tony Romo, Phillip Rivers, Brandon Weeden, Andy Dalton, Christian Ponder and Ryan Tannehill all QB's that are good or better to lead their team than a 5-11 Roethlisberger-led Steelers squad that brings back the league's #1 defensive scheme that always seems to crack the league's top 3 no matter what. Ouch  Love being the underdogs....

Tebow should send a dozen of roses and a Thank You card over to the Steelers front office's because it's that fluke of a win in the 2011 Wild Card that kept Tebow in the leauge this long in the first place.

"I'm not gonna accuse nobody of nothing -- because I don't know facts," Ray Lewis said. "But you're a zillion-dollar company, and your lights go out? No. (Laughs) No way."

"Now listen, if you grew up like I grew up -- and you grew up in a household like I grew up -- then sometimes your lights might go out, because times get hard. I understand that. But you cannot tell me somebody wasn't sitting there and when they say, 'The Ravens (are) about to blow them out. Man, we better do something.' ... That's a huge shift in any game, in all seriousness. And as you see how huge it was because it let them right back in the game."

What a fucking idiot. I never understood this. As a 49er fan, maybe I am a little annoyed at dumbass comments like this, but come on. Wasn't the power outage the same for both teams? Didn't they both have the same amount of rest or discussion or whatever? Did it really change either side's game plan? And most importantly, when they blew the whistle, didn't both teams come out trying to do their best? And if so, should Baltimore be ashamed for allowing a delay to turn things around?

Ultimately, the game was not about power outages or about the first 58 minutes of play. It was about the 49ers inability to punch through on four different downs to earn the top accomplishment in their profession. That's it. Lewis can go fuck himself. Idiot.

So someone somewhere had to pre-plan a power-outage. A situation where people could get hurt, or caught and sent to jail. And for what? What would be the reason?

If you are with the niners, you have to say yea, we need something that will turn this game around if we are getting beat. Then you have to find a way to access the power grid for the stadium - a stadium that is not yours. Jesus, this sounds more and more stupid as I write it.

If you are the NFL, you have to say hmmm, we may be the most highly watched program of the year by only a mile. How can retain viewership? By delaying the game for 30 minutes after there is already a one-sided contest. Talk about people moving on with their days. Certainly no one stuck around for it that wasn't going to be there anyway.

Do you have any idea how stupid that sounds? Number one being why a power outage would have any affect of turning a game around anyway. Come on man. Be real.

Think about it...it's legal to gamble in Louisiana. Someone got nervous, and pulled the plug. And if the 9ers would've won, it'd be dubbed the best comeback in SB history. BUT...they didn't. Sorry dude...you're not gonna sway me on this one.

Could you provide me with a plausible scenario in which someone, anyone, could have done this? And why is it that a simple power outage is hard to believe. What about it does not make sense? It happened at Candlestick (before the game) and again at San Diego this past week. Were those also pre-planned? Who had big money on a pre-season game? Somehow, those two must be legit, right, but the super bowl, well, that's just someone cheating.

In any case, it was Ray Lewis and the rest of the defense that let the Niners back in the game and nothing else.

By the way - and I have no interest in feuding because I am a Cowboys fan. Always have been. They used to camp in my hometown (Thousand Oaks) and I grew up with them.

But my friends are all big Cowboys fans and they amaze me with how much they think the 49ers get away with stuff. Bad calls, etc. Could this theory of yours be related to that? Is it just the Dallas/49er rivalry that makes one think of conspiracies where there are none?

My theory is not based on any hate or malice. It's based on suspicion. If I turn out to be right...great...COOL...if not....oh well. Fact is, nobody will ever really know. Ravens win...case closed.

I hate the 9ers, but I haven't really had a beef with them since TO did his shit on the Star.

Its a fact it that it had an effect on the momentum of the game. Someone purposely planning this, far fetched to say the least. I am not a Ravens fan to say the least, but it seemed their game to lose until this happened.

I'm not sure if the power outage had an affect, so I do not accept it as fact. I can list hundreds of NFL games where a team came back in the second half and where, in fact, the lights did not go out. Remember, I'm a Niners fan and Joe Montana defined comeback. I used to watch them be down by a couple touchdowns and would not worry.

But the larger point is that whatever affect it had, or any other factor had, it was equal-opportunity. I don't think there is a rule that says if the lights go out, the team with the fewest points stands to gain the most.

This is a team that is one of the best in the league, playing in the biggest game of the year, with some of the greatest talent in the NFL. Getting their shit together and playing at their level is expected, not shocking because the lights went out. Blaming it on lights takes away from the accomplishment of their second-half play.
