I can't complain about my Jets. After virtually blowing up the team in the offseason, they've already exceeded my expectations by winning 2 games when I predicted them to win only 1. Geno Smith has had some highlights but has been frustrating to watch with all his turnovers.

Not sure if it is surprising and I hope Alex does wonders over there. Good guy. Well deserving. Got the shaft.

That said, you are talking about the Niners, who have the 5th hardest schedule VS KC, with the 30th hardest. In the first four games, KC has played opponents that now have a combined 3-13 record (JAC, DAL, PHI, NYG), while the Niners' opponents have a 9-6 record (GB, SEA, IND, STL). That may be a bit of the issue. Not sure what the KC injuries are, but since we are without our two leading receivers, I guess that plays into it.

Put another way, I'd be very shocked if KC went to SEA in the rain and pulled out a victory.

That said, Alex is off to a wonderful start and the Niners are off to quite a rocky start. The Houston game will be telling.

I can tell you that I didn't pick them. It was the first game I picked against the Patriots this season. I honestly have zero idea how this team is winning. When I heard the first TD last night went to Matthew Mulligan, I honestly had no idea who the guy was or the fact that he was even on the team. Never even heard of the guy! I won't pick against the Patriots again for two weeks, when they play New Orleans.

It's really not that surprising to me at all. I heard everyone anoint Kaepernick as "the best QB in the league" last season (just as I heard the same about Brees and Rodgers before him). The scrambling game never works in the NFL. It never has, and never will. I hear all the time that guys like Brady and Manning are dinosaurs, because the "new NFL" requires a scrambling QB. Bullshit. Give me a pocket QB all day long. Again, scrambling QB's have never been remotely successful in the NFL. For all the hype a guy like Mike Vick got for running around, it doesn't change the fact that the guy has never accomplished a thing in the NFL!

I think ultimately it came down to:

• selling seats in a new stadium to fans who generally had a bad perception of Smith (Kaep had no baggage)
• paying Smith $8 Million vs. getting rid of him
• paying Kaep the minimum and starting him sooner than he was ready

Looking back on it in that light, Harbaughs press conferences, where he kept saying he was "going with the "hot hand" (in practice, since Kaep had little to no playing time) may indicate something else was forcing his hand in making the move to Kaepernick.

N.E is prob going to runaway from the AFC East once again and Miami will probably be the best shot to challenge them so it's good for a team like Miami to lose when they would be considered to be a hot commodity to a Wild Card threat in the AFC.

My football journey began about 31 years ago. I used to watch Baltimore Colts games with my father, when I didn't know any better. Then I kept seeing stuff on TV about the Cowboys. They were America's Team, and the play of Roger Staubach ASTONISHED me. I remember thinking when I was 3 or 4 "How can someone move like that??". Ever since this little local documentary on Staubach when I was that age, I've been captivated by the way he played, and had to learn more. As a Cowboys fan, you know I wasn't happy with the rest of the 80's, but I got to live in a time when Tom Landry held the reigns. That kinda beats out the losing seasons, looking back. The man was a genius, and the father of the Cowboys. Anyway...I was mad when Landry was canned, but I still held out hope for my team. Coaching changes happen, but I didn't think it'd EVER be him.
Moving forward...Enter Jimmie Johnson. I wasn't sure about this guy right off, but he sure proved me wrong. Back to back, baby. You SHOULD know the rest. 3 in 4 years. First team in NFL history to do it.
So...here we are in 2013, with a lot of frustrated fans. BUT, I'm holding out hope yet again that we WILL win, we WILL win soon, and we WILL win big.

Mulligan, a local Maine native, who played for Football-inept UMAine, a blocking-specialist who struggled year in and year out just to get a roster spot somewhere, and is now playing for Tom Brady. That is an awesome local feel-good story.

I'll be tempted again to pick against the Pats this week. Vince Wilfork is out for the year with an Achillies injury. What is the Pats' run defense without Wilfork in the lineup? Dead last! Green-Ellis could have a field day against his former team. I could be very well continue to pick against the Pats if the opponent has any kind of decent running attack.

Completely agree with you.
The Jets are doing better than I'd hoped for. And I think Geno has potential but he NEEDS to cut down on those turnovers.

I'm stil hoping for a Jets VS Giants Super Bowl this year... as I do every year. I can't honestly say I'm very optimistic about it, but I'd love to see it happen. BTW-- how pissed off do you think Dunkin Donuts is that everytime Eli throws an interception, it's followed by a commercial telling us, "Eli runs on Dunkin!" Here's a thought, Eli, cut down on the Dunkin Donuts and start eating something a bit healthier.

I have been watching NFL nearly thirty years since around 1984-1985 the first Super Bowl i saw was Miami vs. San Francisco.The whole reason i got into football was my dad put me on a team in '84 when i was nine years old.I immediately loved the sport and started watching plus collecting Topps football cards.The first team i rooted for were the Pittsburgh Steelers because i saw a special they were called NFL Films on ESPN they played documentaries and i really liked the Steelers mainly after seeing their dominance of the seventies and championships.Like Liam i suffered through the crappy 80's neither Pittsburgh or Dallas did much throughout the decade.My best friend was a huge Dallas fan and i was a Pittsburgh fan so we had some epic battles on who was the best.Around the end of the 90's my wish finally came true and Tennessee got an NFL team.I left Pittsburgh behind and always said i would if my state ever got a team and they finally did.So from the very first game in 1999 a 36-35 one point win against Cincinnati i have seen every game and have been a diehard fan of the Tennessee Titans and in their very first season they went to the Super Bowl but lost 23-16.The Tennessee Titans 15th anniversary is this season and they are celebrating by putting XV on their uniforms.We've had some good times and some rough ones in those fifteen years but overall i am really happy with the way things have gone.

My story is simple. I was never into football as a kid. Walked in to a Pizza Parlor during the 1981 season. Saw Joe Montana playing. Thought, hmmmm, this guy looks pretty good. Just became a fan for no other reason then it grabbed my interest. Became a DIE HARD from that day on! There is not a better sport on the planet. I can watch any play from any team at any time and if the players are set, ball is about to be hiked, don't bother me with your petty words or issues. Just shut the hell up for the next 5 or 6 seconds until this play is over. I used to joke that I parent my kids in 40 second intervals.

As far as my memory could go back, the things I remember (vaguely and cloudy) the Steelers were always happening. I remember bits and pieces of games even my mind can't fully wrap itself around. The sound of Steelers Sunday dominated the the background. Myron Cope's voice on the radio was constantly heard. Every picture of my existence as a baby, my dad and family have Steelers jersey's on surrounded by Steelers posters in the background, knickknacks, Christmas tree ornaments, stockings, wallpapers, you name it, it was Steelers. Steelers memorabilia everywhere.

I was 5 years old when my dad broke his leg chasing Kevin Greene in the parking lot at Three Rivers Stadium after a playoff win in January trying to get his autograph for me and my brother. I was sitting next to him when he had his leg-cast painted as a Steelers helmet.

My dads first game EVER was the Immaculate Reception when he was 15 years old. He was on the field that day with my uncles and brings out the ticket stub every now and then and tells the same stories I've heard for 25 years. They get better and better.

At 6 years old, I started paying attention with knowledge. I vaguely remember the 1994 Steelers loss to the heavily underdog San Diego Chargers that stopped 3 yards short of the goalline. That upset ranks top 3 major heartbreaking upsets in Steelers history according to the fans. I remember everyone being distraught over it at every street corner. It wasn't until that next year in the AFC Championship game where my memory truly explodes into remembrance.

We beat Jim Harbaugh's Colts in the AFCC game in '95 (my dad and brother were there, my mom deemed me too young yet for a Steelers game. That would come in 1996. DAMMIT.) The play that got me absolutley HOOKED was a 3rd down long ball from Neil O'Donnell to Ernie Mills as the Steelers trailed late in the game.

O'Donnell went deep, pumped, and hit Ernie Mills on a double move down to the Steelers one yard line. It was the greatest catch my young eyes has ever seen. Mills caught it over his shoulder, got one foot in and dragged his foot in bounds. Acrobatic. I was memorized and hooked. My grandpa taped that game and I had to of watched it 1 million times over judging by how the tape is rotted and static at that point of the tape. I went out for football the year after to play because of the Steelers and that catch.

My first Steelers game was in 1996 in December Vs the 9'ers. We got spanked, but I screamed my ass off until 0:00. My first AFC Championship game was in 1997. A loss to the Broncos. There I was, 8 years old in January, 5:00 a.m in front of a burn-barrel in the negative degree temperatures with my dad....tailgating. Our bond will never be broken. Every year, I buy me and my dad tickets to opening day to show my appreciation. I've been close to over 40 Steelers games since and have witnessed the greatest of games played and games that took us to the Super Bowl, as well as many, many heart breakers. Best times of my life. I bleed Black and Gold. Eat, sleep, breathe Steelers football.

How I got into football:

As a kid, I used to watch "Murder, She Wrote," with my parents on Sunday nights. During football season, though, it was always delayed because the game was on. And I'd look at the game clock and think, "Okay, there's only 5 minutes left... no big deal." Except, of course, in football time, 5 minutes could equal half an hour. We all found it incredibly annoying, but gradually, we realized we might as well try to figure out what the hell these people were doing (neither of my parents grew up here, so football was pretty foreign to them.) We eventually pieced it together, and then actually started to kind of enjoy it. Coincidentally, the Giants made it to the Super Bowl that year, which helped us get into it even more (being that we live in New York.)
Around that same time, I had a friend who owned some football games for the Commodore 64 ("TV Sports Football," "Fourth & Inches," etc.) Playing those games with him really helped me understand the game a lot more.

I never really understood Football that much, but I started when the Pats got to the Super Bowl with Drew Bledsoe. The two things I remembered was the Kick Return TD, and also Reggie White's blindside sack on Bledsoe. I saw that and I thought, 'Wow, Football is friggin' awesome!.' I'm not entirely sure why I became a Jets fan though. Might have been because Parcells defected and took quite a few of the Pats players that I liked with him, including Curtis Martin. While as I watched it on an off without really understanding Football, it wasn't until until ESPN starting having shows and sections of Sportscenter that broke down plays before and after the games when I really started to understand the game and developed a passion for it.

Tell you honestly though, I actually prefer the pregame and post game analysis more than the actual game itself.

I'm stil hoping for a Jets VS Giants Super Bowl this year... as I do every year. I can't honestly say I'm very optimistic about it, but I'd love to see it happen. BTW-- how pissed off do you think Dunkin Donuts is that everytime Eli throws an interception, it's followed by a commercial telling us, "Eli runs on Dunkin!" Here's a thought, Eli, cut down on the Dunkin Donuts and start eating something a bit healthier.
