On this day...

On this day in 1981, Pat Benatar's "Promises In The Dark" began its run up to #38 as Blue Oyster Cult's "Burnin' For You" topped out at #40 on the charts and Journey's "Who's Crying Now" peaked at #4.

No surprise the album most loathed by Journey fans is Steve's fave.

Many Journey fans, including me, love this album. Not sure why anyone has to pick one to hate. I hadn't listened to it in a long time, but decided to listen in full while I was working the other day. A really great CD! Smooth vocals, great melodies. Neal sounds great all over. Steve's voice was better than anything in music in the past 20 years. What's not to like? Don't answer that - it's doesn't matter.

I'll answer anyway, if I may. I don't hate the record, and in fact I agree it's got great songs. But it's a Steve Perry solo record. "Journey" to me was always Steve, Jon, Neal, Smitty and Ross. With the abject firing of the 2/5 of the band, at the height of their fame, I'm always at odds with this record out of principle.

I can understand to an extent how it could be compared to a Steve Perry solo record. With that said, it still sounds more like a Journey album than "Eclipse", which sounds like a Neal Schon project. To me that doesnt really sound like Journey at all. I really like ROR and many of the songs on there have superb vocals and great melodies.

I agree the album would have been a zillian times better with Smith. And that's true for the last few albums too.

release WCTNGOF in stead of suzanne and they would have had 2 top ten hits and 2 top 20.
Always wondered why they waited over a year to finally release it after the band already broke up.

I agree. WCTNGOF should have definetly been released as a single right out of the gate. Probably would have been at least a top 20 hit.
