Kiss, Yes, Deep Purple Among 2014 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Nominees

by Matthew Wilkening October 15, 2013

http://ultimateclassicrock.com/2014-roc ... -nominees/

Kiss, Deep Purple, Yes, and Peter Gabriel are among the nominees for the 2014 class of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Other classic rock hopefuls include Linda Ronstadt, Cat Stevens, Hall and Oates, and the Zombies.

The list also includes the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Nirvana, Chic, N.W.A, Link Wray, the Replacements, L.L. Cool J, and the Meters. According to Rolling Stone, the artists who get the most votes will be inducted at a New York City ceremony next April. For the second time, fans can select who they think should be honored via a poll on the magazine’s site — that’s the good news. The bad news is that all those combined votes will be combined into one ballot that becomes just one of 600 ballots that will determine the winner.

This seems like a good time to blow our own horn and state that if you want a Hall of Fame that puts 100% of the control in the hands of the fans, click here or on the button below to help decide in Ultimate Classic Rock’s current Hall of Fame election, as Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Rod Stewart and Santana vie to reach the finals.

Of course, several of these undoubtedly worthy classic rock bands have been nominated but not inducted for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in years past. Not that they seem particularly concerned. Earlier this year, Deep Purple keyboardist Don Airey stated, “I don’t think the band really care, actually.” Last year, Gene Simmons of Kiss floated the idea of buying the Hall of Fame, and firing everybody: “It’s become a joke.”

I'd vote for Deep Purple, Kiss, Yes and Hall and Oates.

That said the Rolling Stone crowd and Jann Wenner and jizzing all over themselves to induct Nirvana. I hope they hang the shotgun Cobain blew his head off with at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame afterwards. 8)

I can't possibly think of a band less deserving of recognition and accolades than Nirvana.

Linda Rondstandt? Did she ever sing an original song? (except for that disney song) She had a mediocre voice at best.

yer entitled to yer opinion..

but she's had a pretty long and successful career covering opera, pop, country, rock... and over 100 Million albums sold worldwide doesn't happen with a "mediocre" voice..

The lady could sing..

Yes, no doubt they weren't hard or even party time rock n roll. But they were great musicians who wrote a whole bunch of hits.

I love me some Hall & Oates. But fuck it, I could care less about ever going to the hall of shame myself and I'm not losing any

sleep over it either.

Doh!! They were too depressing for me too. But I just wouldn't listen to them.

I sent a strongly worded email to RRHoF about their ignorances. Things should straighten out next year, when the nominations are reported.

Why? Any hall of shame that even lists bands like Zombie in the same line as Hall and Oats can't be taken seriously. The whole thing is ridiculous and while I USED to care, I realize what a farce it is and moved on. The fact that one hit wonders were put in the yet Kiss, Yes, Deep Purple and Hall and Oats aren't? The hell with them and their opinions.

Gene Simmons: ‘Original Kiss will not reunite for Hall of Fame’

Scott Rowley

http://www.classicrockmagazine.com/news ... l-of-fame/

Gene Simmons has shot down any hopes that original members Ace Frehley or Peter Criss would reunite with Kiss in the event of the band’s induction into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame.

Comparing the situation to a ‘cancer’ which must be ‘cut of of your system’, Simmons insists there is no way back for either man, who he says had a hat-trick of chances with the legendary band.

Ultimate Guitar reports that he told Radio.com: “No, how many chances in life do you get? When you stick your hand in the fire, you get burned the first time. Fire and nature doesn’t care if you’re a good guy or a bad guy. Both of these guys had three chances to be in the band and three times they fucked it up. They were every bit as important as we were at the formation of the band and they would have been the ruin of the band had they continued in it.

“When you have a cancer in your system, its best to cut it out as fast as you can. It used to be a part of your body then it turned into cancer so you gotta cut it out.”

But Simmons also stresses his belief that both former members are happier since parting ways with Kiss. He adds: “I believe that both Ace and Peter are happier now. They are healthier, they look fine. When they were in the band they were both on junk, or crack or alcohol. Clearly not a healthy place for them. They belong doing autograph shows in clubs – they’re happier.”
