Boston's New Album

I have listened to the entire album several times and I an extremely disappointed in it. The drums sound awful and the vocal mix is weak. Songwriting is mediocre at best. Even the one new song featuring Delp on vocals is below par. This album should be universally panned by critics. Yes, it's THAT bad!

The Last Real Boston Album was Walk On. No, It didn't have Brad, but it was damn good.
Sonically , the first album was the best, John Boylan never received due credit for that album.
He stated Tom was great at recording guitars, but knew nothing of recording acoustic drums (still don't)
The urban legend is that all the tracks were actually recorded in Toms Basement. Not quite true,
the Vocals and everything on "Let me Take You Home Tonight" were done in L.A. , John & engineers
did the Micing of the drums, and along with Tom , the mixing of the tracks. While John did state Tom
as being "a Genius" and a quick learner, all the albums done after him did not have the same sonic quality
especially the drums, and to a lesser degree the vocals. I would never advertise I spent 10 years on this current
offering, sad.

I agree . Walk On has become a favorite and it really kicks ass! That was the start of the descent into drum retardation though unfortunately. No matter what anybody says, there's no question Brads backup vocals were left on the response portion of Surrender to Me , they are just uncredited. Fran does not sound anything like that at any time. When the song was done live Brad did that part just like on the album.

There's perhaps one bad song on "Walk On" and two of the songs, in my opinion, are as good as anything they've ever done, the title track and "Surrender to Me".

Dressing up a hardware salesman to look like your dead singer is reprehensible. Anyone who buys this album is a tool (something DeCarlo knows more about than stage presence)

It's time for many of these aging bands to just go away already. That includes many of my all time favorites. The last thing the music world needs is this horrible pseudo Boston release.

There's perhaps one bad song on "Walk On" and two of the songs, in my opinion, are as good as anything they've ever done, the title track and "Surrender to Me".

Walk On was pretty good. The last time anything recorded under the Boston name rocked.

For a band with as FEW albums as Boston has, and with Boston's heyday LOOONG gone, like decades gone...why do people still care?

Vers, True and I got a laugh out of it. I think people were holding out hoping this was going to be a really good album. And after 10 years, this? Kind of fucks up Christmas for me as I was one of the hopefuls. But I must say this. I will be forever grateful to Boston for recording "More than a feeling". Man, when that song came out I think every 8-track, in every ride this side of the Mississippi blasted this fucker out their windows. Simply, one of the greatest tunes ever written.

John its true this is really where the drum sound began to diminish, Tom's fascination with triggers was a downward spiral. In spite of that Really good songs, Solid vocals from Fran, Tom's arrangement's and production still make this a great record. I wondered if Tom could make a solid Boston album without Brad and for ONE album he did.

I too will be thankful for the Masterpiece of the Debut. It inspired me to play guitar, write music, produce for bands
and so on.......and finally to forgive him for the last two albums he's done......

as I remember the story.. "Let me Take You Home Tonight" was recorded in L.A. to appease the label.. and make them think they were recording in L.A. while Scholz was back in Boston working on the album in his studio..

You are correct. And that was John Boylans decision, as he was the producer. However, All the vocals were recorded
by John, and the Drums were recorded with his help regarding micing and mixing. Tom needed no help with Guitars
they were fantastic, and he did pretty damn good with a cheap Yamaha 12 string for Peace of mind & other tunes.
I also Think Toms Bass lines were incredible.

I agree.. Tom is a badass bass player.
