Need More Evidence Hockey Doesn't Belong In The South?

Postby Enigma869 » Thu Dec 12, 2013 12:45 am

What a bunch of fucking dopes. They replaced the broken glass, and actually left the film covering on the new glass for the entire period (blocking the fans' view of the game), because they had no idea it wasn't supposed to be like this

The NHL seriously needs to contract! Take hockey out of states like Florida (where it has NEVER belonged) and give Canada another team or three, where people actually understand hockey!

I agree Johnny. I actually got into watching hockey the past 2 years when they did televise the playoffs. This past year was great and I'm finally getting a better understanding of the rules they have in place. That being said and being from growing up in florida, we never had a frozen pond so we never gave 2 shits about hockey. Never have been to a game in my life and at this point, probably never will.

I agree BJ Girl. I'm an old time hockey fan and this was both funny and pathetic all at the same time. I get that the only time those fuckers see ice is I their cocktail. That said, it's a damn hockey rink. You would think that the guys who work there have actually done this before!

The Stars aren't far from the bottom where attendance is concerned. With that said, the big mouth from New England's team is barely middle of the road, in the same respect. Yes, that's you, John. :) Southern hater. lol

This is your argument, Rick? Really? I'm not really sure what attendance has to do with the moronic hockey rink dude who I posted about. That said, the Bruins are "barely middle of the road" in attendance because every single team ahead of them has a much larger stadium! The Bruins sell out EVERY game, and have been playing to 100% capacityfor many, many years! I'm no "southern hater". I just think every sport aside from college football should be removed from the south! The southern part of the U.S. is the only part of the country where I continuously see teams not sell out playoff games for their professional teams! It's beyond bizarre!

This isn't exactly on-topic, but it kind of mentions Hockey in the south. Read the part about Wayne Gretzky's trade.

Wanna know why? No one wants to go to Miami anymore, it's a shithole besides South Beach and even there at night you'll probably be robbed by an Hatian, cuban, puerto rican, jamican or whatever other illegal rolled up onto the beach the day before. Hell, in the 70's & 80's the Phins sold out games 95% of the time. Now who the fuck wants to go a city where english is a second language? Illegals are the scourged of this once great nation. Fuck em.

Because the south is the source of all evil.   If you said because of a stupid coach or a bad team I can see what your saying...but because of a place of region? Why are you on a north vs the south kick anyway? Aren't we all part of the U.S.? Let go of the civil war already...it is over. It is irritating to see people still carrying on as if we were still one vs the other.

I would have no problems with southern teams moving north. I yearn to see the return of my Nordiques. They just don't air Avalanche games on tv very often, and they're actually competitive this year.

Not really the point! This isn't about the "Civil War". It's plain and simple, and exactly what my title reads...Hockey doesn't belong in the south. It never has, and it never will. Absolutely, 100% not true. It's definitely true to say I hate the Cowboys. Always have. They can't lose enough for me. The past 20 years has been a VERY enjoyable comedy show for me. It's also true that I think (and I'm admittedly painting with a very broad brush) most sports fans from the south are AWFUL! There are always exceptions to every rule. I just can't get beyond the fact that many southern sports cities simply do not support their pro teams. I'm not sure why it is, because I don't live in that part of the country. I can only assume that it's because people in the south simply embrace college sports much more than their pro teams. Either that, or something has gone very wrong in their brains from having their necks turned sideways for 400 miles during a NASCAR race. Those endless left hand turns can be brutal

We don't support hockey 'cause we're concentrating on COLLEGE sports. Bowls are upcoming (although, too many of them now), and the Sweet 16 is right around the corner.
Nobody here gives a flying fuck about hockey.

I can get that the idiots did not know basic repair to a glass at a hockey rink. And I can concede that hockey is an ice sport and we don't get ice as much as the northern states. I get that. But why do you say it does not belong in the south? Why can't they play here if they have a hockey rink? Now granted our teams may suck in comparison...I don't even like hockey so I can give that one to you...LOL I am a baseball gal. By the way I think Nascar sucks. LOL
Oh and you don't do the whole north is better than the south thing...but I have dealt with so many dolts who do...I want to smack idiots who still say we don't wear shoes or are inbred. Your pretty cool in that respect.

Again, my point was never the north is better than the south. People live where they live and everyone should live with they are most comfortable. Again, this is strictly about sports. I have always believed southern sports fans are AWFUL, and there is endless evidence to support that claim. The state of Florida shouldn't be allowed to have a single professional sports team, and Georgia is a very close second! By the way, my son loves NASCAR and has a huge Kyle Busch fathead on the wall of his bedroom. I cringe every time I have to put one of those dopey races on my TV!

Johnny, Johnny, I (and speaking as a tried & true floridian) love my Dolphins. And until a few years ago was a season ticket holder for over 17 years. Up until I and a friend were confronted in the men's room at a game. Little did the cuban thugs know we were both well versed in hand to hand combat. That ended my days of EVER going back to the shit hole of Miami. And like I said before, in the 70's and 80's the Dolphins sold out their games. It wasn't until Miami became flooded with "rafters" & "drifters" did the city become so transient that it lost it's way. Not to mention the thousands upon thousands of blue haired snowbirds who flock their wings all the way to florida every winter to clog up the highways, complain about what we don't have here and they have there, blah fucking blah. One day I'm gonna grab one and just slap the shit of them. Jax doesn't deserve a team. Not a big sports town and unless their winning it's obvious no one cares there. Tampa could do better and if they start winning they will fill the seats. And yes, we love our college sports down here because we fucking win and it's the feeder program for the NFL. What northern college team wins at anything besides Hockey and sculling? LOL, Sculling? Really? The south excels because we can play any sport year around down here. Beautiful weather all the time, beaches, running, biking paths everywhere. Hell, who in their right mind would want to live where it's 18 fucking degrees 5 months out of the year and everything is dreary looking and dead. Not to mention in addition to your property taxes, you also pay state taxes out the ying-yang. Florida has no state tax due to us having to put up with the snowbirds. I'll take sunshine, fishing, the beach's, the state parks, the springs, great college sports programs any day over living in the arctic circle.

You won't get an argument from me about the weather (and, just so I'm clear, I'm only referring to Winter weather, because I'd take Summer in New England 100 out of 100 times over Summer in any part of Florida)! I just cleared my driveway of about 14 inches of snow (I fucking HATE snow), and it's all of 13 degrees here right now. Luckily, my pellet stove is blazing, and it's about 74 degrees in my house, as I get ready to watch the Patriots play in 85 degree Miami today.

In terms of taxes, what you said isn't exact accurate. I own a home in Salem, NH (less than one mile from the MA state line and about 25 miles to downtown Boston). NH is one of only two states in the entire country (Alaska is the other one...just in case you're ever on Jeopardy) that has ZERO Income Tax and ZERO Sales Tax, so again, you're a bit off with your assessment!

I stand by what I said...Florida is a fucking AWFUL professional sports state. It always has been. Part of it isn't really Florida's fault. It's one of those states that every yahoo, ass hat wants to move to, so nobody has any roots in the state. You'll meet more native Floridians in Boston than you will in Miami! Sports (and again, I'm referring to professional sports) in cities like Boston, NY, Chicago, Detroit, Philadelphia, et al. are entrenched for generation upon generation. It's simply part of our culture, and who we are. It's virtually impossible to grow up in Boston and not be a Red Sox fan (and it doesn't matter whether you're man, woman, or beast). I saw some pretty awful Red Sox teams as a kid, and never stopped supporting the team. Hell, when I was a kid, the Patriots were the laughing stock of the NFL. It wasn't at all uncommon for them to win one or two games a year, for a 4 or 5 year stretch. Enjoy the 85 degrees today while I'm freezing my sack off. This is going to be a VERY close game, and I wouldn't be stunned to see the Patriots to lose (although, I think they'll win today and lose to Baltimore next week).

We do have a sales tax in florida, but NO state income tax. And I agree, Florida, in areas like Miami, Palm Beach (some parts), Naples (some parts), St. Pete/Tampa area) have become so transient it's beyond pathetic. Miami is beyond help anymore. Truly sad and would the last american leaving, please bring the flag. And Johnny, How about them DOLPHINS! :D

Yes, I know Florida has a sales tax, and so do most other states. I was just pointing out that your tax argument wasn't accurate, given that I live in a state with neither a sales tax or an income tax!

No Surprize wrote:And Johnny, How about them DOLPHINS! :D

Not really that shocking to me. A couple of points. First and foremost, I've been saying all season long that I have no idea how this Patriots team keeps winning games. It's a team with a large number of its significant starting players on the injured list. Brady doesn't have even one of his top five receivers from last season on this roster. Also, Miami has played VERY well all of this season and Tannehill has looked very solid. By the way, even when Miami sucks and New England is a top team (which they're really not this season), the Patriots ALWAYS have trouble beating Miami (especially in that awful climate). Teams who are coming from 10 degrees to almost 90 (it was 87 yesterday in Miami) degrees are always going to have trouble with that much of a change. Ultimately, the Patriots probably should have won that game, but Amendola simply couldn't make a catch at the end that was perfectly thrown and in his hands. By the way, I believe the Patriots are only 7-7 against Miami over the past 14 games, so this outcome wasn't exactly earth-shattering!

LOL No doubt. My dad likes it. He also used to drag race when I was a child in California. (P.S. that was where I was born...LA, California for those who might not know. ) I think that is why he likes it. But growing up watching those brutal left turns as you say...YAWN! LOL
