Joe Bonamassa

Postby San Diego Gary » Mon Dec 16, 2013 5:13 am

I just have to say, if any of you like guitarists, please check out Joe Bonamassa. The best guitar player (and singer) you've never heard of. Blues/Rock and so much more. He's so diverse, that if you hear one song you don't like, you still quite possibly will LOVE the next one. He's all over YouTube.
We just attended his 99th and final concert of this tour. The hardest working man in show business. We saw him in Las Vegas in April, and the show tonight was quite different, with even MORE energy, if that's possible. It started with 45 minutes of acoustic guitar, followed by another hour and 45 minutes of fantastc heavy duty electric. He uses two separate backup bands. Joe opening for Joe! He definitely does NOT mail it in. Anyone who has seen him can tell he would play just as hard (and does, when he has a night off) at a strip mall bar. The man just loves the guitar (he has over 300); and he's UNBELIEVABLY talented at playing it!
BTW, his 2014 tour starts in February, in Germany. Chances are pretty good at some time he'll be close to you. There's 43 more shows (so far) by the end of May. Do yourself a favor and go see him.

Thanks, but he's a jackass and I'm done with him. It's one thing that he didn't want to do BCC, but there's no reason he should have not sold the name and destroyed a successful band . What a jerk.

Glenn asked to continue and if he could have the name and JB said no.

Joe is by far my favorite artist/guitarist now! Worth going to see if he is nearby...

One of them (Seesaw) is nominated for a grammy.

That's interesting because I read an interview with Joe a few months back and he gave Glen his blessing to go on without him, and if I remember right, Joe even left the door open to rejoin the band in the future.

I just saw this posted on Joe's Twitter account today: "I am very concerned about a old hand injury turning into something very unpleasant.. Its been two months and now its a waiting game.." Wow. I sure hope he's OK.

For what it's worth, from a online chat with Joe:

OK. Why did you deem it a good decision to kill BCC? BCC was one of the best bands out there!!

Just finished reading a great interview with Joe. He was in Nashville this summer for a week and just finished up another week of songwriting in Nashville with various writing partners. One of which is wait for it...Jonathan Cain!

Joe was working on songs for a new album to be released later this year. I wonder if any Bonamassa/Cain songs will make the cut.

I've gotta be honest, I play guitar and love great guitar players. But I've tried Bonamassa in many different contexts, and he doesn't do a lot for me. His tone doesn't seem to be anything to write home about, and I hear him rip off Eric Johnson licks without the glorious Eric Johnson tone.

I liked some of BCC's songs, but they seem to be lacking a bit of that magic to really grab me.

I've never heard any Bonamassa solo work that's really grabbed me.

Finally, is it true this guy is only 36 (according to Wikipedia)? Fucker looks so old.

See if this does anything for you. It's a short instrumental, followed but another song.

I don't argue the EJ licks. I hear a lot of people in his playing. But I think everyone is influenced by what they've seen and heard. As for the age, it's correct. Maybe 37 by now. But he's been touring since he was 12, I believe. He's a working fool. It has to take a toll.
