The season that was never meant to be

Given how awful the officiating has been this entire season, this isn't much of a surprise. I saw a pass interference call against Baltimore last week in the Patriots game that was laughable. They then called a PI against the Patriots that was every bit as bad. They REALLY, REALLY, REALLY need to do something about how bad things have become in this league.

All I know is 3 of my predicted division winners got 3 of the Top 7 draft picks. What a lousy season for me.

It would've been nice of the officials hadn't missed the illegal formation penalty that should have been called on the Chargers during the missed Chiefs FG. It would've been nice to end the season on a positive note as far as predictions go.

Normally I don't sweat bad calls or bad non-calls. It all evens out. But this year and last there seem to be more and more outcome-changing bad calls. Where the game would have had a different outcome. I believe the Niners were victim to that this year, as were several other teams. Think about it - if the refs had of gotten the call right in the SF-NO game, the Niners would be division winners and number 1 seed. Instead, they are number 5 seed.

With things happening at lightening speed, some kind of review has to be put in place to correct this.

Couldn't agree more. This is yet another example of the dopey NFL feeling this need to reward teams for winning a division...even if they won that awful division by default! If the NFL wants to claim that regular season records actually mean something, they simply cannot have a 12-4 team against an 8-7 team. Not to mention, I can't think of more of a home field advantage in the NFL than Green Bay, with that awful weather. California teams don't fare well in those conditions!

Okay...so, he's 0 for 2, and you're impressed? Bengals fans really do impress easily! The good news for you is that I really see no way the Bengals lose on Sunday. I think San Diego is an awful team, and they really don't even deserve to be in the playoffs. Out of the 12 teams who qualified for the playoffs, the Bengals couldn't have got more of a cupcake opponent!

My picks for Wild Card weekend

Chiefs vs. Colts
This is a coin toss. I'm taking experience on this one. Chiefs win on the road.

Saints vs. Eagles
Tough call. Saints are the better team, but they're terrible on the road. But with that said, Who thinks Nick Foles is due for a clunker? I'll take the Saints.

Chargers vs. Bengals
A .500 team from the West, forced to travel east? Bengals get the win at home.

49'ers vs. Packers
Green Bay is not as bad as their record indicates, now that Aaron Rodgers is healthy. I'll take him at home, every time.

A 6th seeded team barely squeaking in the playoffs is a hot upset special that won't last long, but has the huge formula for playing spoiler. I like the Bolts for that reason and I'm sure Rivers is going to be fired up since he's the black sheep of his draft class. The Chiefs are deep so their backup roles are legit as showed.

I'm also switching my Colts/Chiefs pick because I got to ride out my preseason predictions and I have the Chiefs/Broncs in the AFC Title game.

I think it's time for me to re-think some of my picks. I'll wait until Saturday to get a sense of weather conditions. The only pick that I'm absolutely NOT changing will be the Bengals. I never thought I would say this in my life, but the Bengals are my absolute LOCK OF THE WEEK! I wouldn't be stunned if they won by a minimum of two TD's!

Colts---They are a strange team to predict they beat Denver,Seattle and San Francisco this year but are also known to get blown out at times as well.Luck is a very clutch QB especially in close games and i think Indy takes this one.

Eagles---The Saints are terrible on the road but i expect that to continue in cold conditions in Philly.I really like this young team they are going to be good for years to come.

Bengals---I don't think San Diego has what it takes to win this one especially in frigid conditions.Could very well be a blowout and easy win for Cincy.

With the outrageous prices of tickets + concessions and the restrictions put on tailgating, not to mention how cold it is supposed to be here in Indy this coming weekend, I don't blame the fans. I love watching the Colts and rooting for them but I'll likely never attend another football game.

Um...you do realize that your team plays in a 72 degree domed stadium, right? Sorry dude...but weak argument. Even in pathetic sports cities, playoff games should NEVER have any difficulty being sold out. Hell, those are the cities you would think that the fans would be more hungry. Green Bay is probably the most cold NFL city, and they almost NEVER have an issue selling any game out, so I'm stunned (and disappointed) to see Green Bay on this list.

Well, being a Niners fan and currently living 5 hours from Green Bay, I certainly have an opportunity to go. But the prices plus the weather VS home and a large HD TV make it an easy decision for me. It will be around 20 to 25 below with wind chill. I'm sorry, but that is not weather that humans should be sitting in for several hours.

And super lame of the NFL to host a Super Bowl game in a snow-weather city in February in a non-dome stadium.

The Bungs are making headway on selling out, our problem is we have a small season ticket base to start with, and then the NFL doubles the ticket price for playoff games, combined with just getting over Christmas and a lot of people just can't afford it. He'll, I wouldn't pay $97 to sit nosebleed either, that's highway robbery when you combine $9 beers and $25 or more parking. Of course we've also discussed here the game experience from home compared to the stadium and for lots of folks it's a no brainier. The NFL really needs to lower these prices for playoff games, when GB has issues you know money is the main problem here, those fuckers have 100,000 people on a list for season tickets and are still struggling to sell out.

I wouldn't care if I had a stadium 2 blocks from my house, I would NEVER pay the ridiculous cost of paying upwards to over 100 dollars for a nosebleed seat. Not when I have 4 tv's, A/C, very comfortable lounging, a frig within 15 feet, a surround sound system and a bathroom lees than 10 feet from me at any given area. The question should be, WHY should I go? What does the stadium experience offer me that would convince me to drive 200 miles round trip, PAY for parking let alone 2 or 4 tickets depending, over priced food & beverages, unruly fans sitting near you, spilling shit on you, having to walk 2 miles to the bathroom only to have some unruly fuckers confront you? Now, that being said, and I know your going to say, "We'll Jack, your not a loyal fan". Ha, and where's the loyalty of the NFL player? I'll tell you, there is none. As soon as the first FA comes around along with the first big pay day, their gone. Same with the owner. A player, oh let's say Manning, plays his entire career with one team until he gets hurt and the Colts have a bad year. He's then shipped off. Same here with the Dolphins. Jake Long. Pro Bowl left tackle. No #1 pick. Got hurt. Shipped away and Tannehill is sacked more than a field of Idaho potatoes. And for a very long time now, while I still root for the Dolphins, I believe the NFL is run by vegas. Sad, isn't it?

And? Why is this remotely relevant? Nothing that happened in week, 3, 5, 13, or 14 will have ANY bearing on what will happen in the playoffs. I LOVE the Bengals this weekend, a lot. I think they'll win more easily than any team playing this weekend. They're easily playing the shittiest team who made the playoffs, so I don't expect them to struggle. I can honestly tell you that as a Patriots fan, I wouldn't be terribly upset to see the Bengals come to Foxboro. While I certainly understand that this awful Patriots team (and yes, I said awful, because I still have no idea how this group of players got to 12 wins) is fully capable of losing to any team in the NFL, I also think they're more than capable of beating the Bengals. Bring it on. The only team in the AFC that I would pick the Patriots to lose to in this season's playoffs would be Denver. I don't like their chances, AT ALL, in that game! Tom Brady has shown me this season that the Patriots can have half their starters be undrafted free agents and still win games.
