I disagree..

If Wal-Mart or Sony offered Journey a big payout, they would record an album of all slow ballads just to make a buck...if that is what they were asked to do.

Yes and no. For both Walmart Deals (Revelation & Eclipse) the offer on the table was for an EP of new songs. Neal fought for full length albums of new material. Would Walmart have gladly settled for just a disc of re-worked Perry hits? Sure. So for all his flaws (and there are plenty), Neal has consistently fought to keep this band as some sort of creative entity. After "Arrival", Cain was ready to throw in the towel. I would also note that, unlike many of their peers (Styx, TOTO, Bolton, Lionel Ritchie etc), Journey have yet to release a uninspired covers album. And now Mick Jones is saying that the next Foreigner album will be alot of covers. So whatever small microscopic ember of artistic integrity still glows within Schon, let's at least acknowledge that it's there.

In a previous interview, Neal mentioned Separate Ways as an example of motown-influenced rock. If that is where they are headed, I say go for it.
