I'd call it an ambitious failure. Lee and screenwriters jam-packed it without so much Oedpial subtext bullshit that it forgot how to lighten up and smash stuff. I own it. I've watched it several times. Sometimes eccentric cinematic failures hold up to repeated viewings more-so than hit films.

Great example. And yea, I have doubts whether we will see a ST3. I know Orci is allegedly directing, but the sequel (which I enjoyed) didn't set the world on fire. After the hype of the first film, it almost seems like Trek is mired in the pop cultural rut of the UPN Voyager days.

I read that Dredd was profitable on DVD. Doubt a sequel will happen tho...
