Not that bad, actually. Very stripped down, but a listenable interpretation of the song. I think parts of the vocal sound almost like Springsteen when he isn't shouting. Anyway, it works much better than I would have expected from a band like this, even though the upbeat lyrics mismatch the pace and tone which makes sound a little surreal. Perhaps he intended it like that.

I couldn't not say anything so I said "Not Thanks" last night...but I really, really dislike this. Way to take an inspiring anthem of faith and turn it into a downer.

Everybody does realize what's going on with this right?

Eels are in effect "rehearsing" this version for when they get back and SP joins them again...Mark it down!

Seriously, I was a big fan of Journey with Steve Perry fronting it back in the 1980s. I had always believed Steve Perry left the band in the same sense like why Seinfeld ended the show when it was at the height of it's popularity.

I've watched the few youtube videos of Steve Perry singing again as posted on this site and it was really cool seeing him sing again after so long of being absent from the stage. But with what I see I am unsure if this will bring him back to the main stream again. I may be wrong but I've always thought Steve Perry was a serious perfectionist with his vocals and music creativity. If this is true, I would have to wonder why after so long is he coming back into it. Either way, it will be interesting to see what is to come.
God better be wearing his titanium cup when I arrive to be judged, cause the very first thing I'm going to do is break my foot off in his balls. Liberals and Dems are proof that Satan has, to some extent, a sense of humor.

He's singing because he can and still wants to... and all he did was sing a few tunes at a friends show.. happens every weekend with musicians all over the world..

People are making way too much of this.... the guy is 65 years old... he's just having some fun.

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

So this was just a "weekend warrior" type of deal, nothing indicating a major comeback or anything like that? I did take it as he was just out having some fun and getting up to sing a song to revisit an old love for the music. Sort of like what I would do every so often getting up and doing a song if I happen to be in a karaoke bar and started feeling the long for the past of what my entire life used to revolved around a long long time ago.

It doesn't matter that he's singing because it's Friday or any day of the week or that it's any particular town. He's singing because it feels good. He's singing because he's still in love with his lady. Or he loves himself…or any number of reasons. It doesn't matter really the reason. It just matters that he chooses to sing and that makes my heart smile.

Wow, I never stopped to realize Steve Perry is 65 years old now. I watch the video clips of Journey from the 1980's and it's hard to believe those guys are that old now. I guess that's what happens when you watch old videos all the time and never stop to really realize that those videos you're always watching were recorded 30 plus years ago.

Time fly's and Perry's not even the oldest one in the bunch ...

Steven Bruce Smith - 59 August 21, 1954

Gregg Alan Rolie - 67 June 17, 1947

Walter James "Herbie" Herbert - 66 February 5, 1948
Perry's good natured bonhomie & the world’s most charmin smile, knocked fans off their feet. Sportin a black tux, gigs came alive as he swished around the stage thrillin audiences w/ charisma that instantly burnt the oxygen right out of the venue.TR.com

Age is something that no matter what you do to preserve youth or how you define youth; you still get older. In fact I'm a day older than I was yesterday and a week older than I was last week. Nothing you can do about it. Time never stops. I'm glad to see that there are videos of that time with the band members years ago; it's a reminder of how time brushes against us and leaves its print.
