What if Perry did a one off with Journy?

Postby Rick » Fri Jul 04, 2014 12:38 pm

As I said in a previous post, that would be a bucket list thing for me, but what would the band have to do?

As I understand it, they're already tuned down a half step for Arnel. To accommodate Steve, who might need to be tuned down more, how could they accommodate that in the middle of a show?
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

sadly, it is pretty obvious he wont ever sing with Journey, though hopefully if they finally get into the RR HOF or win the Songwriters award (I really hope they get this one) they will all at least share the podium.

They'd probably be mopping up his goo for all of the money he'd make them on a one-off show, especially Neal! Neal can say what he wants, but, he'd swallow a few of SPs loads for this kind of pay day.

Let my brother watch Steve with the Eels in LA. Actually, just put it on, he had no choice. Lol Him not being much of a Journey fan, I had trepidation, thinking he would rip Perry up, not singing like most expect him to sound. His comments were "How old is he here? I said around 65. He said "God damn he's amazing."

it took Perry 19 years to get out of the shadow of his Journey anxiety... why would he put himself back in that?

I don't think there ever going be a reunion (sadly), but why is it so unthinkable for them performing a song or 2 or 3 at the RnRHOF? We all agreed SP did just fine (tuned down and all) ...surprised a few here, I think, that he did so well (even on the Journey songs) ... last Eels show in LA ... wow ... the man's still got it!!!

Arm-chair critics on this board always want to bring up the BGraham performance of 1991. By all accounts, SP flew up to SF only that day, there was no rehearsal, SS and RV weren't included, and SP pretty much winged it not having sung a Journey song in 4/5 yrs. I think in a later interview, Steve said he hadn't sung a lick in 2/3 yrs. but decided to do the join the memorial tribute at spur of the moment. FTLOSM came out in 1994.

Obviously, if SP continues to hone in on his vocal skills ... and if all the stars and moon align ... anything can happen ... :D

I was playing it on my phone for the wife. Was playing the DC version of Perry doing the Eels song. My 9 year old son came in and said "Is that Journey?" Recognized The Voice immediately, tuned down or not.

Because for that to happen (Journey getting in the RnRHOF), the following 3 people have to not be part of the RnRHOF.

Jann Wenner - Co-founder of the Rock & Roll HOF
Co-founder and publisher of the music and politics biweekly Rolling Stone.
Best friend of Jon Landau.

Hates Journey

Jon Landau - Head of the nominating committee for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
American music critic, manager and record producer, most known for his association in all three capacities with Bruce Springsteen.

infamously called Journey "corporate rock" in 1979.
Best friend of Jann Wenner

Hates Journey

Dave Marsch - Committee member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Rock Critic who has published four books about singer/musician Bruce Springsteen.
Is also closely associated with Springsteen because his wife, Barbara Carr, is one of Springsteen's co-managers.

In the 1983 Rolling Stone Record Guide, Marsh called Journey "a dead end for San Francisco area rock" and accused them of having "made records perfectly calculated to be inserted into FM radio." He awarded every single Journey album released up to that point – seven studio albums, a compilation album and a live album – the minimum possible score of 1/5 stars.

Hates Journey.

So there ain't gonna be a Journey reunion... or a RnRHOF induction for Perry to sing tuned down Journey hits at..

Rick, I think my "loonancy" is starting to rub off on you. If Perry did a one off with Journey. Are you trying to kill off California? Cause you know a Journey reunion would cause it to fall into the ocean.

I hope he doesn't do it. I would rather see him do a one off as PERRY doing the stuff he wants to sing that suits his current mood and voice. I would like to hear new Perry stuff rather than old songs he has nothing left to prove with.
