Now this is a bit of a sticky situation. The song that Royals fans voted earlier this season to sing in the sixth inning of home games – “Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey – is the same song that San Francisco Giants fans claim as their anthem.

And here’s why: former Journey frontman Steve Perry is a huge, huge, Giants fan.

So much so that he led a news-making singalong of the song during the Giants’ exciting comeback Game 5 of the National League championship series against the St. Louis Cardinals on Oct. 16

Royals fans showed their love for the song back in June when they chose the 1981 Journey hit to replace Garth Brooks’ “Friends in Low Places” for the sixth-inning musical interlude. In a final round of fan voting, it beat out Queen’s “We Will Rock You.”

But the Giants — and the Chicago White Sox, too — have also used the rousing song in recent years.

Perry has led Giants fans in surprise singalongs of the song several times since 2010, when his hometown team won the World Series for the first time since 1954.

Did we mention that he’s a huge fan?

“I can’t put into words what the Giants have done for me emotionally. It’s beyond words,” he told MLB.com in 2010.

“In a lot of ways, they’ve saved me and they’ve gotten me back into music, to be perfectly honest with you. They touched me in a way that made me excited about music again.”

Royals fans might not have Steve Perry to lead them, but we bet that they blast that song at the K on Tuesday.

Yeah we've been enjoying singing DSB at the Royals games this season. In fact one of the ushers was impressed our 12 and 13 year old girls knew the lyrics word for word. They even made it up on the big screen during the song! My wife said - if that usher only knew what a big Journey fan I was...

I raised my kids right! Hopefully Steve won't be offended if the Royals play the song.
"Well let me tell you what problems Steve Perry has. The only problem Steve Perry has is that he's alive just like you are and he has to wake up in the morning like you do and he has to face the world exactly like you do. " ~ Steve Perry
