The_Noble_Cause wrote:Saw 'Interstellar' last nite. Checked all the right boxes for me. Despite a third act with plot holes so big you could fly a fleet of Millennium Falcons through it, it's a great film. Def. in my top ten of the year. Towards the end, the movie goes from sci-fi into hokey Spielbergian emotional magic. But by then, the movie has earned the right to destroy your suspension of disbelief. I postponed seeing the film, but am glad I did. The hype was well deserved.
Best movie of the year for me. The film absolutely earned its hype. Visually stunning, great cast, and they could have had McConaughey go "Alright, alright, alright!" and I would've let Nolan get away with it because it's such a badass movie. The docking sequence was superb. The film had just the right balance of action and incident. I thought the twist at the end was cool, and the ending, too. At first I was like "WTF" with TARS and CASE but by the end those robots were ready for their places in SF canon, especially after the spiral rescue.
Btw, be glad Spielberg never made this movie in the late 2000s or it would have dripped the usual formulaic Hollywood bull.
Interstellar is a movie everybody should watch, in the THEATER if at all possible. For the record, I was also late to the party, but it was mostly circumstantial and for once not entirely a matter of procrastination.
