Neal is starting to sound like Simon Cowell. Maybe he can be a guest judge on The Voice? I wonder how he ranks his decisions to hire Augeri and Jeff Soto...

"Glad to know I've still got the ears and now I'm 2 for 2: first was finding Arnel on YouTube and now, recruiting Omar Hakim."

he doesn't rank them because they never happened...Arnel took over after Perry left and it just took some 8+ years for the world to catch on.....

Not to jump to conclusions, but is Neal referring to having Omar fill in until further notice, or is he implying that he will be a member of the band?

At this point, your guess is as good as any.

Does sound good. Still one of the weaker songs on Eclipse. Cool that they arranged songs like this with the orchestra. I could see other bands just sticking to the hits.

My guess would be no. Omar is one of the most 'in-demand' drummers out there, and if you look at his resume, he's played a lot of styles with a lot of people. I don't see him settling in to the Journey gig full time after the Canadian tour. I could be totally wrong, but that's my guess.

Dayum! Cool. I don't get the hate for this tune. Oh well...
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

I can't say I hate it. The guitar is great and the melody right up to the chorus is catchy. The chorus itself is where it loses me.

I feel the same. I think the chorus tries to hard to be a catchy sing-a-long arena anthem, but it's no Separate Ways or Higher Place. More of a B-side. Nonetheless, the Hollywood Bowl version sounds spectacular.

Seemed like a big deal show. Guys are better dressed … AP got his tattooed arms covered (lol). The orchestra addition enhanced the show…but, the kids choir…meh…didn’t fit (imo)...I think they distracted, more than complemented, AP's singing. Lots of variety in the songs selection. AP was excellent in the ballads, but I detected strain on the fast, uptempo songs…understandable, these collection of songs are demanding on anyone’s pipes. Deen would have taken some load off…all the credit to Arnel for taking it all on.

Shame there won’t be a dvd of this show out. YT videos from faraway and all the background talking and noise probably didn’t do it justice.
Crowd was big and exciting. But the yt view count, after a week of being out, is disappointing, no?

Arnel really KILLED on "Patiently", "Winds of March", and "Opened the Door". Way good.

I thought so too, and the orchestra was particularly great for those.

P.S. You guys aren't sensing Arnel is having trouble with the upper register?

He is, but even though he's 18 years younger than Perry, he is 15 years older than Perry was during that epic performance of Mother Father in Houston in 1981. Makes a difference, and I'm not sure Arnel has ever had the range Perry had at that point.

Yup. AP probably never had SP's prime range. The fact that he's able to take on this song at all at his age plus the rest of the full set {much of which included Infinity-era glass-shattering tunes} is mighty impressive. It's too bad they didn't record this for a blu-ray release, but I'd settle for a live album.
'Nothing was bigger for Journey than 1981’s “Escape” album. “I have to attribute that to Jonathan coming in and joining the writing team,” Steve Perry (Feb 2012).'

They will probably release the Greatest Hits Dirty Dozen and leave all the deep cuts that we want to hear out of the album. :?
