Cast and crew react to negative reviews:

“What is really going to matter, I believe, is what the audience says,” Cavill told Yahoo Movies UK, “because they’re the ones who are buying tickets.”

He added that the fans will dictate the success of this film, the longevity of a franchise and whether or not more films like these will be made.

“The audience’s voice is loudest and after this weekend the audience, at least partly, will have spoken,” he said.

Amy Adams, who plays Lois Lane, said that viewers should go into the movie without letting others’ opinions cloud their experience.

“I know that Zack doesn’t make the movies — or none of us are making the movies — for the critics,” she said, adding that fan responses so far have been positive and articulating that they’re “making the films for them.”

Gal Gadot, who plays Wonder Woman, said that Snyder has done an impeccable job at laying the groundwork for more characters in the future.

So far, according to Fandago, and movietickets.com, negative reviews haven't stopped people from buying tickets. As of now, 78% of Fanago's website and tickets sold are going to Batman V Superman, so, the BO run begins:

“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” has opened strongly with $7 million on roughly 5,900 international screens on Wednesday.
Warner Bros. reported that Spain saw the best results with a 62% share of the top five films with $1.8 milloion from 702 screens, ranking as the biggest opening in 2016 ahead of “Deadpool.”

France came in with $1.7 million with 196,000 admissions on 822 screens for 65% of the top five films

Italy pulled in $1.1 million on 768 screens, capturing 66% of the top five films.

Sweden pulled in $428,000 on 210 screens and is now the biggest March opening of all time.

Norway marked the biggest opening of 2016 with $501,000 on 190 screens and Finland took in $120k,000 on 120 screens.

Despite the overall market being affected by the terrorist attacks and closures of several cinemas, Belgium opened to “very good” results with $191,000 on 150 screens.

Germany, Russia, Brazil, Mexico and Australia open on Thursday. The U.S. market launches on Thursday night.

El Ma'imbo reports that the tracking numbers are mondo.

I think the worldwide box office is going to be solid, despite what the Killer Tomatoes have to say.

'Batman v Superman,' with Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill, is a gritty superhero showdown

As directed by Zack Snyder, the two-hour, 33-minute "Batman v Superman" does go on too long and lingers more than it should, as Snyder's "Man of Steel" did before it, on its climactic action set pieces.

But the director, a strong technician whose slam-bang emphatic, occasionally operatic style seems made for comic book adaptations, has been well-served by an adept script co-written by Chris Terrio (an Oscar winner for Ben Affleck's "Argo") and David S. Goyer, which raises a number of interesting issues.

Sounds like he liked it. But again, I did not read past the first five paragraphs.

Turan of LA Times and Peter Travers of Rolling Stone were really the only two positive reviews I read. The NYTimes "review" came off like a stoned freshman philosophy term paper. Not sure what they were trying to say. But, yea, the vast majority of critics were scathing.

Based on how many ratings? A ton of people on IMDb and other forums are chiming in, saying they liked/loved it.

The DCEU is NOT being rebooted.

You're right, it seems like the DCEU will not really be rebooted by BvS.

It seems to me that only the Wonder Woman movie can truly reboot the DCEU. If WB was smart they would delay the Justice League movie until after Wonder Woman.

But, so far, DC hasn't exactly been smart about much of anything.

Just got in from seeing movie. HOLY CRAP!!! My whole family loved it. There were a few spots that I can see where the critics did not understand, but it is all laid out in black and white. A savage battle at the end. Will see again.

I was very happy with it, and glad for the length. I don't want to spoil anything but want to make a few safe observations.

First, WOW on Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman. Total superhero redemption here, and finally the Batman on screen we've been waiting for.

Second, there are some nice nods to Frank Miller's TDKR other than the BvS fight. If you've read it, you'll recognize a few things.

Third, very nice turning point to bring Batman and Superman together as allies - it's something that I've strangely never considered before, though it should seem so obvious.

Finally, it's not as predictable or shallow as I was fearing. It's IMO DEFINITELY better than MoS. I have a feeling most fans will love it.

I have seen it and HELL TO THE YES, it is OUTSTANDING!

The critics have a universal case of HUA so severe, they may require surgical excision in order to stand up straight again!!

And who the hell said "lack of action"??!! Batman is off the chain! This film has probably the single best (or two best?) action sequences in a CBM to date.

And...Wonder Woman! :!:

Haha, funny! That's not what I meant.

Wonder Woman's coming out before Justice League. That's the way it's always been set up.

Here's a friend of mine who LOATHED Man of Steel and shit on everything DC. We battled a good deal, so this is what he just had to say when he tagged me on Facebook:

Travis, If you read the reviews that say Batman v Superman is terrible, don't believe the hype.
I HATE Man of Steel with a burning passion, but this was one of the BEST comic book movies I've EVER seen. DCU, I am eating my words.

Warner Bros.’ “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” has flown off with an impressive $27.7 million on Thursday night.

“Batman v Superman” smashed the record for highest Thursday preshow for an Easter Weekend, set last year by “Furious 7” with $15.8 million. The total includes $3.6 million in Imax shows.

I will be seeing the movie again this weekend. My mind is still processing a lot of what I saw. But, I am still floored by it. Could it have been better? YES!!!!!! I can see where the critics complained about the movie too.

1) It was a very dark movie. This is not a kids movie, like the Marvel/Disney movies. This takes a serous look at what could happen if there was a Man of Steel was on earth. Hero worship. Something Clark did not want. It went on a little too long Superman being down on himself.

2) While the flash backs and dreams were good, they could have done with out them. We all know how Batman came to be, why see it again. They could have done without the Flash dream and such and just keep it to the JLA appearance in the Luthor files. Even though I like the Darkseid dreams and reference, they could have cut that, heard people asking what was that about.

3) I understand the Martha reference, but found a little silly.

4) Pacing would have been better I think without all the above. I think it was too much for the critics and in my opinion could have been saved for the next movie.

But there was a lot of good in the movie. The end fight was savage!!!! Not some let's hoop over here and swing then bend and then kick. This was take this monster down anyway we can.

People are complaining about Batman's killing. Look at the people killed in a Marvel movie, then ask really?
The child molesters caught are usually beaten up in prison with or without some bat symbol on them. Get real. Yes he is brutal, he always has been. But at the end, you do see a softening in his ways.

Then the BVS fight, still hear, I thought they were friends. Come on, this is the start of the friendship. The fight is very believable too. Shows how well, Bruce thought things out. Something he is know for.

The very ending was a BIG surprise, did not see that coming at all. Can not wait to see how they run this story.

Oh and a very good set up on how Darksied knows of earth now. Lex opening that Kryptonian ship has lead to a lot of trouble.

The ending was so graceful to me. SO GRACEFUL and I didn't expect a follow through, at ALL! My wife went from "Lets get this over with" to staying up with me in the a.m hours to talk about it. I had such a wonderful experience! It took me 2-3 viewings to settle on Man of Steel. BvS floored me and it has the emotion I so craved that MoS ultimately fell short of. I couldn't be happier with Superman's portrayal..and I was worried going in. Such a relief.

I cannot wait to see this again.

Abitman, though I disagree with maybe only a FEW of your points, I can't help but say that's a great review. Nice writeup.

According to ComScore PostTrak, which polls throughout the weekend, the word of mouth is great for BvS. Seventy-one percent of Thursday’s crowd gave BvS an excellent or very good grade. Even better news for Warner Bros. after those reviews: 60% of the audience said they would definitely recommend BvS to their friends while 33% said they’ll probably tell them about it. Older males were out in force (no surprise) at 69% guys, 57% over 25. Fifty-one percent saw it in 3D. Twenty-five percent said BvS exceeded their expectations while 60% said the film met their expectations.

I cannot fathom anyone not liking this more than MoS. I do believe we have gotten our proper DCEU launch now.

I'm sorry I quoted Abitaman without realizing the D-word was in there. Very sloppy of me. :x

As much as TNC tore me apart in the past over MoS, I'm highly looking forward to his response. Good, bad or the ugly, he's fair above all else. I'm really hoping the GA and movie goers take a piss straight into the mouth of the critics on this one. BvS deserves legs.
