In case nobody noticed, I'm a protective Superman fan (lol.) I'm one of those Superman fans that always wanted growth to the character. In basically all iterations of the character, he's one note. We never see him gradually develop nor do we see the necessary mental flaws that allow him to make the mistakes the ideal Superman, wouldn't.
I love classic Superman and I adore Christopher Reeve and the Donnerverse
(I retconned Superman Returns OUT of the Donnerverse in my mind) but that won't stop me from accepting what Henry and Zack has done with the character so far. It's exactly what always fascinated me about the character that many creators and fans refuse to touch.
In all honesty, if we would have got a fully developed; classic Superman in Batman V Superman who would of been flying around and smiling to the camera and being his true nostalgic self, I would have been not only insanely annoyed, but would have been just as disappointed, if not more, than I was with Superman Returns.
If they would have skipped over Superman's current arc after what they just gave us with Man of Steel and went STRAIGHT to
"Boy Scout", that would have told me they had NO direction left for Superman and they were done telling his story.
The ending to BvS tells me otherwise and I'm excited to see this version of the character break down those necessary walls to get to the classic version everyone wants
(fans want it ALL in ONE film. BORING.) If we would have got it all in BvS, I would have felt dishonored as a Superman fan; especially have to wait 3 years since MoS. I'm glad we aren't there yet. Is this the ideal Superman? No, but I'm excited to see where he ends up.
But nobody noticed or would care that Downey's Stark acts nothing like the guy from the comics. He didn't have a one-liner in every panel.
So when they eventually recast Stark, the "new guy" might have a really hard time filling the armor.
I've been saying this for a long time about fan favorites who revolutionized the character like RDJR did. He was the perfect love storm any movie franchise would be stupid not to build off of. Marvel hasn't hit their tough times yet, but if history has proven anything, is that it's about to get very difficult in the future. It already happened to Spidey. We're already on his 3rd version since 2000.
