However, I did see a DVD of Asia from a while back (Howe was in band) and something wasn't quite right with the live sound of the band. The songs just didn't seem to have the same sound/feel and I at the time seemed to think it was mostly because of Howe. Hard to explain. It wasn't horrible, but just kind of blah.

Howe was the weak link when I saw them for sure. His choppy weird style/playing has gotten odder as he's aged. Still works ok in Yes, doesn't fit in with Asia's AOR sound at all. Thankfully, Howe left the band, so there's a new young guy on guitar that kills it.
The recent Asia live DVDs are pretty poor quality, so don't judge their live chops by how those sound.

I have seen clips from several of the DVDs and the quality is so poor that I am surprised that they were even put out. I understand wanting to share the music, but if the quality of the video/audio is poor leave it on the cutting room floor.

sounds pretty good to me, but why (I assume Geoff Downes) faces backwards?

Why not add Robert Fleischman into the mix as well? Then it could be a three-hour and 15 minute show.

The venues on this tour are smaller than what Journey usually does on their big summer tours. I feel like Journey could've been the only act on the bill.

I doubt I would pay to see Asia alone, so this seems like a good deal for them. Journey has toured with most of their contemporaries over the past decade or so, who else should they share the bill with?

John Wetton will sit out ASIA's previously announced shows with JOURNEY to focus on his ongoing battle with cancer. He will be temporarily replaced by YES's Billy Sherwood for the March and April dates, which include an appearance on the Cruise To The Edge progressive rock cruise.
"I am disappointed to announce that, on the advice of my medical team, I have to withdraw from Cruise To The Edge, and from the first leg of the JOURNEY tour, March 15 – April 4," Wetton — who who has been fighting cancer since 2015 — said in a statement.
"I will soon be starting a new medical chemotherapy procedure, under which I will not be able to fly.
"I am grateful to the promoters of the cruise. I wish them pleasant sailing and I know my friends on the cruise, both artists and fans, will have a ball on the ocean wave, I will be with you all in spirit.
"My good friend Billy Sherwood will fill in for me within ASIA, keeping my seat warm during the initial 12 JOURNEY dates.
"While I am naturally disappointed to miss the beginning of what I know will be an historic ASIA tour, I am intending to return to the stage with ASIA later in 2017, dates soon to be announced.
"I know this decision will be in the best interests of my health and our fans, in the long run."
As a lead singer, bassist and songwriter, John Wetton initially rose to fame with KING CRIMSON and after that Wetton co-founded UK. In the early 1980s, he was the frontman of the super-group ASIA, his biggest commercial success. ASIA's self-titled debut album was the biggest selling album in the world in 1982.
He later formed the duo ICON with Geoff Downes (YES and THE BUGGLES) and has had a successful solo career releasing a large number of studio and live albums, including the compilation "The Studio Recordings Anthology".

Damn, that's brutal. I had no idea Wetton had cancer. He already had triple bypass surgery about 10 or 11 years ago. Tough life for him...
