Right now I don't think it looks too good that he will show up and sing. No one has heard a word from him about if he will or not. But we all know that is how Steve is. Who knows, maybe he will do like he did at the HWOF, surprise everyone and just show up and perform too. That would be the best we could all hope for.

He will have to rehearse with the band for at least a week if he does perform.
It is unusual that there has been nearly 100% media silence from Steve since the announcement.
Before the announcement he seemed to be out there much more.
A lot of secrets are being kept if he does perform.

I just hope he shows. And if he does, it will propel him to finally release some music.

Personally, I think it's just too much pressure on him at this point. The entire music world is tuned in to see if he'll show up and sing. For someone who has made it obvious that he wants nothing to do with the music industry any longer, and is expected to show up and sing on a televised broadcast in front of all of his music contemporaries....oofah!!!

As disappointing as it would be, I would understand and respect this choice.

I think Steve is a nut case up stairs and will not perform. He's expectations are very high and he's not 35 so he's likely not able to do what he did. Couple this with an emotional drive and he's out. He needs a Herbie to come in and say, "Steve, quit being a pussy. You're not what you we're, work your ass off and get as good as you can in range, the fans will love it anyhow." He'll be a pussy but I'm hoping not!hb

I sold my tickets once I heard this and am now officially over it and have moved on with my life! If he does show

Journey, performing at the Nutter Center in Fairborn on Tuesday, April 4, was one of the most successful American rock bands of the late 20th century. The group still fills arenas based on the power of its deep discography, but members Neal Schon (guitar), Ross Valory (bass, backing vocals), Jonathan Cain (keyboards), Steve Smith (drums) and Arnel Pineda (lead vocals) watched as acts with smaller sales were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

That changes on April 7, when Journey receives the overdue honor alongside Yes, Electric Light Orchestra, Joan Baez, Tupac Shakur and Pearl Jam.

“We had a joke that all of our opening acts were in the Hall of Fame and, finally, we get the nod,” Cain said in a recent telephone interview. “I’m honored and very grateful to have our music be remembered like that. It was worth the wait.

“The ceremony is the first time we’re going to get to see Steve Perry in a long time, so that’ll be fun,” Cain said. “As far as we know he’s just going to accept the award and then skedaddle. That’s all I know, unless something changes. Arnel is going to represent very well, like he always does.”

Cain is referring to former vocalist Steve Perry and Journey’s current singer, Arnel Pineda, who was famously discovered by the band through online performance videos.

“It’s amazing because Arnel has been consistently on the road for 10 years now,” Cain said. “I don’t think any singer in the band has stayed on the road as long as Arnel has. When we think back to the Steve Perry days, he wasn’t in the band for 10 years straight, faithfully being the road singer.

“Steve left and did his solo thing and years went on when we weren’t playing anywhere,” Cain continued. “We weren’t doing anything.”

Journey is currently on tour with special guests Asia.

“This our first time touring with Asia and it’s been going great,” Cain said. “We look for new packages to put together and try to bring in good bands. We’ve been very lucky to tour with great acts like Heart, Peter Frampton, Def Leppard, Foreigner, Steve Miller and the Doobie Brothers. Two groups are better than one most of the time because you give people a real reason to come out. It’s always interesting and fun.

“We’re trying to conquer new territories and we’ll continue playing new places,” Cain added. “We’ve played some cities we haven’t played in a longtime and sold them out, which is really cool.”

My respect for the man will not change if he doesn't sing. He's staying true to himself, and doing what he has to do to be able to look himself in the mirror the next morning. I can respect that, even if I don't quite understand it. He must have good reasons, which we are not privy to.

I will not make any music anymore". But no, he was maintaining his fans expectations and hopes by saying things such as "I'm recording new songs", "I'm going to release new music soon"... blahblahblah...

Perry's history, plus the current band having a year's worth of non-Perry tourdates in front of them...it'd be a great gesture for the fans, but it wouldn't make any business sense for either party, and, well, we all know what makes the world go 'round.

I personally think it would Perry as much good to sing as it would his fans!

He's been burdened for years by his own insecurities, which I can only conclude are due to his pronounced loss of upper vocal range since, really the Escape album. Just years of HARD touring with no real rest took that from him.

By getting up there and facing the world and singing these songs in WHATEVER key he can sing them in, it would put all those demons to rest for him...he needs to just EMBRACE who he IS vocally...not who he WAS. It would do him an his psyche a world of good IMO.

Not to mention he could really bury the hatchet with the band, HH, etc. if he'd go with the flow at the RRHOF show. Be the bigger man!

I have to think that these guys would not let an event like this go to "whatever"
I hope they are talking behind the scenes (as they should) about the presentation that evening
